Another addition to the Vardynn Project.

Presenting the grand city of Milkengrad in the early morning light.  The second largest city in all of Santharia. A human city with elven influence.

I hope you enjoy.  I tried to include some of the more famous landmarks.

Cool.  Definitely like the extra pic with labels, as it makes me want to read the corresponding entry to put history to names.

To the oiginal pic; it looks great.  Very detailed.  Looks fantastic while still retaining a realism.

The labelled one is handy to have.
I was hoping the artephenera might be hiding in there somewhere but I don't think they've got a proper entry.

Wow, very nice.   thumbup

However, it seems kind of flipped to me.  Judging from the landmarks and the position of the sun, it seems that one is looking more or less towards the southwest from somewhere not far outside the main entrance.  But if that's the case, shouldn't the city be on the right?

Absolutely beautiful, Seeker, and of course aura +1 for another drawn epic! clap clap clap

This picture really provides the scope of what Milkengrad is and represents, and why these people think that they're better off alone than full part of the Santharian kingdom - because it's just a perfect place on its own! Why share it! lol It's great to see that you incorporated various things that were mentioned in the entry and made them real that way - now you have a comprehensive picture to look at rather than having to convert descriptions in your head :) The steep stone walls give it a touch of Minas Tirith and when you zoom in you can see all those houses nestled here and there - very nice!  thumbup

Two things to mention, though:

The one is what Mina already said... Caelereth is a bit of a strange world, which unfortunately doesn't make it easier for artists. The thing is that the sun circles in front of the world in the south. Which means that it cannot be seen when looking north, north-west or north-east. So yeah, ideally the view on the city should be to the south-west if we want to have some sun in it, then the picture would need to be flipped. That shouldn't be a major issue, though.

The other thing that could be improved is the street/walkway on top of the wall - a bit of texture there would do the pic good. But I like the whole rest very much, Seeker!  cool thumbup

P.S. I'll PM Curgan (hope his e-mail address is still intact) to make sure he doesn't miss this one!

An excellent drawing!!!

I absolutely loved the green inside the city. A city where elves live has a LOT of green. The landmarks were very well executed as well.

My only remark (after a  lot of thought in order to find one) would be the proportion of the Efirhal hill towards the city, which should be smaller, but that's only a minor issue.

The important thing is that the painting emits what I had in mind when writing about the city. Wow...

(stares for five minutes at the painting of the great city in silence)

WHY do I try to paint anything?  Why do I even own a tablet?  Pictures like this make me want to delete my copy of Adobe Photoshop and snap my stylus over my knee.

(weeps quietly)

This should be a David Gemmell book cover.

(sniffles)

A truly beautiful picture as always Seeker, but I feel that my newest drawing may give you a run for your sans.

Concerning Curgan's comment on the proportion of Efirhal hill towards the city: I guess in some cases it's easier to just correct a few texts (if there are any at all that mention this explicitly) rather than the whole epic pic. So I'd say we just leave it as it is and I recommend that Curgan updates the picture he had in his mind slightly... ;)

Thank you everyone so much for the comments and praise.  Soo nice to be an artists here in santharia. Sorry I have not been too active on the boards.  I have been illustrating with the Treasure Shoals alot in my spare time.

Curgan I am really glad you like it.  I get excited when a writer says that I hit the mark.  Also shows that the entry was well written I think.
Bard, no need to feel less adequate because of my artwork.  You inspire enough of what I paint anyway.  It is nice to hear that you liked it. :).

I can certainly flip the picture no problem to address the issue with the sun.

Art I realize I still need to fix the wall walkway per your comment.  Is there an update this weekend?  I suspect no based on past history.

I am currently working on a Vertan tribe picture, that I am really liking.  I am excited to hopefully get that one up this weekend.
