This is an illustration specifically designed to be cropped into the Overview circles for the Mosses Overview.  I noticed we were short of a few humble pictures and presumed to fill in the gaps.

With affection for the small things of Santharia, may I present...

A DREAMING STONE SHOULD GATHER MOSS:

Hey Judy,

the colours look lovely, but the pictures are actually too small for me to see enough detail to identify the moss, and indeed to read the captions. I would hate to miss out on a Judy picture, so might I trouble you to post a link to a larger version?

Here's the version posted on Facebook, which is much larger - hope you can access that page!

Ok, on to comments:

Many thanks, Judy, for another thoughtful addition to the Compendium! This will of course help tremendously to get our not so presentable moss overview way more, well, presentable :) Now we can actually see the differences between all those forms of vegetation, it's almost as if rediscovering the entries anew!

Question, though: The pics were - as I can see - made partly based on pics that already exist, at others I don't recognize an already existing one. Do you have versions of these new or reworked pics, which could be used in the entries themselves without round borders? It is not really necessary to have a large version of those, just the cut of the section we're interested in would suffice perfectly, we then wouldn't offer an enlarged version. But that way we'd have graphical representations of the mosses in the entries as well.

P.S. I guess I have to make notes now on how many auras I still owe you, as I'm getting way behind! lol

Yep, I can see the facebook version. Splendidly done! I shall make a copy of this identification guide and go foraging for Santharian mosses forthwith!

Oh, Dear Bard, how you inspire me~!  heart

A dreaming stone should gather moss
through every sleepy hollow
on paths where friendly steps may cross
but sorrows never follow,
to find its way through wily wood,
o’er lake and golden meadow,
and seek out things misunderstood
and fear not mist or shadow.

A dreaming stone seeks ever-the-way
through every nodding nook
by canopies where zephyrs play,
and sweetly-singing brook,
through caverns where dear dragons doze
and skies with starlight streaming,
o’er oceans where the whales repose,
in shades where myths are dreaming.

For dreaming stones roll ever on
from snowy peaks to sandy dune
--roll on by day and dusk and dawn,
by sun and stars and moon.
From here where which shall be its way?
Ah, Linén Galnós, I cannot say.

Did a leaf fall from the tattered notebooks of Tom Bombadil, as that free soul wended his way 'cross far-flung fields?    This sings itself - would I could set it to the music it deserves.

I think my favorite line is 'From here where which shall be its way?'   Bravo, bravo, and a Brownie point for you, dear elfling.

I saw "A Dreaming Stone Should Gather Moss"* and Rayne's accompanying poem the other day and I cannot get the phrase out of my head. I think I feel a rondo coming... I made a start, but it got interrupted by Septimus Smallpiece's Book of Bawdy Verse. (Need I say more?)

There was a song version as well - but that too was so shocked and horrified by Septimus's small verse that it ran for the hills. Nothing more was heard from them after four measures.

This is a rough draft of Theme A of the Rondo. Here are the links for the score and the mp3 playback.

In the end, I would like to make three versions:

1) 'A Dreaming Stone Should Gather Moss' - Rayne's poem set to song
2) 'A Dreaming Stone Rolls Ever On' - This one. Rondo for piano. A variation/development of the song theme
3) 'A Dreaming Stone Rolls Ever On' - The piano rondo arranged for woodwind quintet.

It's easier for me to start with the piano version. Then I can a) extract melodies from it for the song version or b) use the piano score as a reduction for the arrangement.

Please let me know what you think. :)

*Which my tongue insists interpreting as 'A Dreaming Moss should gather Stone' every time I try to sing it...

"Is he allowed to do that?"
"I think that comes under the rule of Quia Ego Sic Dico."
"Yes, what does that mean?"
"'Because I say so', I think."
"That doesn't sound like much of a rule!"
"Actually, it's the only one he needs." (Making Money by Terry Pratchett)

Ah, I regret I did not see this earlier! I would love for the poem to be put to music. I love hearing you play, Coren (you are so talented!). I think the music is quite beautiful--but is the poem meant to be song to the melody? I'm not sure where or how the poem should be tied in! Perhaps you might serena--I mean, sing it.  ;)  Or perhaps add in your score where the lyrics should be sung?

I would love to hear more..! It is so lovely, Coren. Please don't stop!
