Sorry to be lazy, but I was wondering if we had the following items amongst our ingredients in Santharia ...

rolled oats, desiccated coconut, plain flour, sugar, butter, golden syrup, bicarbonate of soda, salt, vanilla, self raising flour, icing sugar, cocoa.

If you know them, and their Santharian equivalents, could you please let me know their names, so I can go look them up ... I'm popping into the kitchen, you see ... Australia Day is on in 2 days, and well, I don't want to be too late for it. :)

Urgh.   This sounds like a job for the Bard.  Let me go check Dame Sausade's cookbook, the Tabula Peryodiq,, and the Herbarium for you.  Be back in less than two days.....

Well, that wasn't as difficult as I thought.  It took more than two minutes but less than two days.  Here are your Santharian-approved ingredients:

rolled oats = parritch or porridge oats (oats are mentioned seven times on-site, but there is no entry as yet.  I should take care of that....)

desiccated coconut =  exotic, but available from tropical regions as dried Bombox Palmnut flesh, or simply 'Bombox Coconut'

plain flour = Golden Rain flour

sugar = foridite

butter = milchbutter

golden syrup = malisehoney or maple syrup

bicarbonate of soda = Saleratys - Sodium bicarbonate, baking soda: a whitish powder used as a leaven for breads and other baking. You can also use Cask-rime (cream of tartar, potassium bitartrate)

salt =  seasalt or ash-salt

vanilla =  lavano or clouddust

selfraising flour = Breddflour   (Bredden Grain flour - high in gluten)

icing sugar =  powdered crystalbean

cocoa = powdered kao-kao, of course....

And after all that work, you had better send me a gift box of whatever you are concocting.... :)

I will ...

Thank you so much Bard Judith ... I'll make up the recipes, send them to you, and if you like them, you could make the recipe and show us all what they look like :)

They are both two of my favourite treats ... as my waist line shows. :)

PS An Aura from me. :)

This would be a good start for an Overview or listing or sticky, or... something.  Lets not let this drop back to the depths.  A direct comparison to Terran ingredients is invaluable.

Self raising flour! That was very new to me when I went to live in Britain. We don't have it, we just add yeast, baking powder or sourdough.

Considering all the cooks and foodies we seem to have, I'd agree with you, Alt.  Hoping to do just that - as I seem to be the best qualified to track down that information - and create a Santh-Terran translation list so that we can either design our favorite Terran receipts in authentic Santharian garb, or translate extant Santh'receipts to Terran cookery.    Might be a project for next week.

Ah yes, forgot to point out to Shabakuk that Chapter 5 is ready for testing - will do so now!

I am pleased it is going well for you though Seeker ... can't wait to try it and die. :D
18 May 2012, 09:35:13
No, I didn't Seeker. :( I think it is Master Anfang who is doing the testing

Dek-   shoals is going very well.  Art is starting on chapter 6. A very important chapter.  Did you test chapter 5?
