The Rose-gold Ashwyrm of Santharia which may be found haunting heavily volcanic areas, thrives in heat, and breathes, naturally, fire.
It is legless and wingless but has a classic draconic head and beautifully-demarcated scales.

This illustration was inspired by a PS tutorial on making scales.  I found a way to tweak the textures to make effective volcanic plates as well, which prompted the concept of the Ashwyrm itself.

It is snowing lavishly outside; huge fat flakes falling through the pines and gaunt softwoods, like some Black Forest faerytale setting - dark and cold - but the warmth of this illustration stops me from shivering.   Alas, in less than an hour I must don warm coat, scarf, gloves, and drive for forty minutes to my evening class, a little three-room church out in the Korean countryside, and teach in the stark confines of the small sanctuary itself.  But tonight the English lesson will focus on cooking verbs, and the object lesson will be apple pancakes...

(edited)  Oh, and sorry, here's the larger size illustration and its link!

And one more aura +1 for you, Judy! clap clap

I'm putting in my Facebook comment here also:

Excellent picture once again, Judy! Looks like we don't have an entry yet for this guy if I'm not mistaken, but the picture definitely deserves one! Very cool how you made those scales and how they cover the whole body realistically varying in size the further they are away from the viewer. The ground texture works great as well, apparently a by-product of the same technique, yet very effective! Great stuff!  thumbup

Ah yes, forgot to point out to Shabakuk that Chapter 5 is ready for testing - will do so now!
