Do we have glass panes in Santharia? I know we have glass, because the gnomes use it for their alchemy, but actual panes that windows are made from? Perhaps the really small kind interconnected by lead?

I know that one way of making glass sheets is to blow glass and then flatten the bubble while hot...I'm not sure how good this is at making large sheets, however, but it would probably work for small windows.

Think so. Maybe there are bigger units in very wealthy households, or the lead frame is smaller etc. But I still think they are not very common, not available for the lower glasses. Better off ones might have one glass window in one room etc...

We might have somewhere glasshouses - but maybe we should invent another transparent material for those. Coren and I had an idea looong ago, I fear I forgot how these special "non-glass" houses worked exactly other than they were plants.

Hmm, another interesting project I have not the time to do :(

I'd intended to have the R'unorians a little further ahead as far as glass-making goes. But large glass panes aren't really easy to make.

I think there's a method of making them by floating the warm glass on a pool of cold water, that could make a reasonably big pane, maybe? perhaps a bit warped though. :)

I think we should agree that making large panes of glass is not common.  There are a couple of entries mentioning the use of big panes of glass, such as in the Ximax academy entry.  I can imagine fire mages and wind mages could combine their efforts and creat huge panes of glass if necessary, but such an effort would be only for very special purposes and not for the common castle or building.  The norm should be small panes of glass connected by borders of wood or metal.

yeah ... we should take a leaf out of Star Trek's book and create transparent aluminium instead ... evil

Edit: to be clear ... (for anyone who may be confused) I'm not really being serious about the transparent aluminium.
