Now that the Volkek-Oshra language has been posted, there should probably be a thread for new vocabulary, like the other languages.  You can also talk about other things regarding the language here.

Here are the rules I followed when constructing Volkek-Oshra words:

  • Spelling and Pronunciation

  • The internal structure of a syllable:  (consonant other than r) - (r) - vowel - (consonant)

The bracketed segments are optional, which means that a syllable can consist only of a single vowel and nothing else.

    • However, vowels cannot appear next to each other.  So, for example, ka and ek are both acceptable syllables, but they cannot be put together to form the word kaek.  (Exceptions might be possible in words of foreign origin.)

    • The consonants t', ch', k', q', kw, khw, gw, ghw, qw, kw', and qw' cannot appear at the end of a syllable.  The exception is if that syllable is the last one in the word.  In that case, put the ', w, or w' in brackets.

    • The consonant v cannot appear at the end of a syllable.  (I might be willing to allow some exceptions.)

    • Syllables cannot begin with the sequences mr, nr, or vr.  However, it is acceptable if a syllable ending in m or n is followed by a syllable beginning in r, such as anra.  Since v doesn't appear at the end of syllables, the sequence vr shouldn't be possible.  (I might be willing to allow some exceptions here too.)

  • Verb roots must begin with a consonant.

Looks like there aren't many linguists around who can chip in here and provide suggestions, but anyway... Just wanted to say that this is a commendable effort and a very thorough one as well, Mina! clap clap clap Definitely worth an aura +1 - well, actually it would deserve some more auras, because you cover multiple aspects plus vocabulary and examples etc. - so what more can you wish for? :)

So I'm gonna prepare this bit by bit in the next weeks, so that we have a good deal in the next update. Great job at any rate! thumbup

Thanks.  Honestly, I'm not really satisfied with it, but I figured it's never going to be finished if I decided to keep tweaking it until I was completely satisfied.  I kept finding more things I felt like changing whenever I really looked at it.

By the way, could you sticky this thread?  All the vocabulary suggestion threads seem to be stickied.

Well, there's always the option of updating things later, sure. Putting things up on site that maybe aren't completely perfect helps to generate the need to fix that. So see it as an incentive... :P

And yup, thread has now been stickified! :)

Hello all! It's been a minute since I poked my nose in here. Can't remember if I ever did anything useful.

Ah, too bad that internet is so restricted in China, Ferra. Can't be much fun surfing the web that way if Big Brother's watching you... Hope you enjoy your stay nevertheless!

Hi, dear Arti and other developers!

This year I am in China and cannot use any Google services including YouTube. For this reason I stopped uploading new Nepris videos. I can also not read any comments there.

It just crossed my mind that this information might be useful to you.

Cheers

Short note: We had a bit of downtime Friday/Saturday night due to a server change. Site went online first, message boards took a while longer - now everything should be back to normal.
