Since this is mostly a separate issue only tangentially connected to Santhros himself, I thought notes about this timeline might go here.

The task/problem is this: We have several "fixed" dates in the first century before Santhros, which are crucial to history - battles, the coronation, etc. We have other dates that are not yet known exactly - Santhros' birth, his father's birth and death, Marzevach's birth.

The flexible years have to be assumed in such a fashion that they don't contradict the fixed dates nor each other.

(Note: I'm going to be in brainstorm mode for a while, so don't mind if I ramble. The reason I put this here on the board is in the hope that someone gives a suggestion or finds a solution for this historical riddle.)

Fixed dates:

70 b.S. Battle at the Aurora Fields (Dwarves vs. Moch'ronn)
(Alliance gets underway/dwarves join the elf/human union already formed by Tethias'Quaron)
62 b.S. Battle at Alvang (Alliance vs. Moch'ronn)
58 b.S. Battle at Hegedorn (Alliance vs. Moch'ronn)
0 Santhros ascends the throne

Unknown dates:

at least 25 years before 70 b.S. Marzevach I is born. (Assertion: Marzevach is an experienced King while the alliance gets under way)

at least 20 years before 70 b.S., Aelric is born (Assertion: Aelric already is working as a diplomat while the alliance is formed - perhaps as a junior messenger who was dispatched to deal with the dwarves who suddenly wanted to join? An unwanted task deemed unimportant?)

at most 45 years before 0 a.S., Santhros is born (Assertion: He's not a fossil when he is crowned, even if we assume he's been governing without a crown for many years prior)

At most 15 years before 0 a.S., Santhros is raised to the chief council position. At most 10 years before, Marzevach fled into Exile.

at most 65 years after Aelric's birth, the Mastran Massacre (Assertion: Aelric also is not a fossil when he is murdered)

at most 10 years after the Massacre, Marzevach I is forced to flee into Exile (Assertion: The anger/grief at losing the popular diplomat is fresh upon people's memories when the King's crime is discovered).

So...

Behold... Santharian Timeline v2.0.4! Ages of the characters we have to keep track of (Marzevach and Aelric, and their lines) are included in brackets.

96 b.S. Marzevach is born
91 b.S. Aelric is born
71 b.S. Marzevach (25) ascends the throne
70 b.S. Battle at Aurora
69 b.S. Aelric (22) joins the council as a minor diplomat/errand runner.
67 b.S. Marzevach II born.
67 b.S. Aelric (24) is sent on an envoy to the dwarves
Over the next years, alliance plans are slowly unfurled. Aelric, due to his role in interspecies embassies, gains supreme trust of the elves and dwarves, giving him key importance in the alliance treaties.
64 b.S. Armeric born.
62 b.S. The alliance is tested by fire. Human, elven and dwarven armies set out and jointly assault the Moch'ronn's fortress at Alvang.
58 b.S. The battle at Hegedorn follows.
55 b.S. Raegach is born (he is indeed much younger than the other two)
45 b.S. Santhros is born to Aelric (46) and Fiore.
37 b.S. Armeric (27) dies in battle.
28 b.S. Marzevach II (39) dies in a hunting accident.
It is at this point Marzevach's (68)    grip on sanity begins to losen. Watching his heirs drop off one by one, while Aelric and his son Santhros gain in popularity, he decides to do something about it:
24 b.S. The Mastran Massacre occurs while Aelric (67) and Santhros (21) are on their way to the capital (Voldar) accompanied by an envoy of elves and dwarves. The assassins have orders to slay everyone present, but did not expect the additional envoys. In the savage battle, Santhros can escape with the help of one elf. There are no other survivors. Diplomatic ties are severely shaken, especially with the dwarves.
20 b.S. Santhros (25) resurfaces after spending four years in hiding (sheltered by the elves). It is at this point that suspicions about the king's part in the massacre gain substance...
19 b.S. And are confirmed when one of the assassins is caught in a tavern (by a dwarf, even? The Massacre remains as an atrocity in the memory of all three races). Fearing the hate of the people and realizing a shift in loyalties among his own guards, Marzevach (77) flees.
Raegach (36) refuses to be released from his clerical vows to take up the crown.
19 b.S.-16 b.S. The kingdom is led by a royal council in the absence of a ruling heir.
16 b.S. Santhros (29), already on the council, is appointed chief "advisor"? "steward"? It is in this position that he effectively governs the lands for the next sixteen years and continues to unite the countries
16-0 a.S. Santhros is asked to take the crown twice and refuses. (build an elaborate story on this). He accepts it the third time in the hopes of securing a future for the united kingdom.
0 a.S. Santhros (45) is crowned King of Santharia. This is the first time the name Santharia is mentioned.
Although the ruling seat is still in Voldar, the coronation takes place (for diplomatic reasons) in a large trade city within Rimmerín's Ring. Several years later, the royal court moves to this town.

Beyond: The dates aren't fixed, and we don't need to worry about them right now for synchronicity. Santhros probably dies between 40 a.S. to 50 a.S.

Please, take it apart. Anything still in there that doesn't make sense? This feels like a Rubic's cube of history.:rolleyes

That's a lot. Actually makes me wonder if this should all be contained in the Santhros entry. Would it not be better to summarize the history in the Person entry (plus some anecdotes and more focus on his actual character) and actually flesh it out in a History entry?

Yes, that would make sense, wit links to each historic events - though they have to be written as well.... ;)

Aran, dear, I don't see you as member listed, and that is a shame. Now you have waited this long, that you will fall under the mentorship... and obviously you need a mentor to push your forward!

Why don't you start with describing a few of these events and maybe the persons entry and we will see, what your masterwork will be! (The Santhros entry is difficult, for you will never be able to do it on your own with many people wanting to have a say as well.

The problem will be - who should be your mentor - who knows enough about history. That would be Art, but I have the feeling, you ned a female hand to push you.... ;)

You aren't implying anyone in specific by any chance? :b

Santhros definitely is a huge project, and certainly a multiple-entry one. Now that the timeline is somewhat explored, we can build a short list of interconnected entries, and perhaps a masterwork will come out of it.

Still, it would be very ironic - up to now, I have only done translations and plants, and one very nasty insect. To write about a King/historical event as a masterwork... ;)  We'll see.

Right now, I need to send a few long overdue emails (ahem :o ), then try to save a roleplay on another board (non-santharian), and then I'll get back to this.
