Just a short note as I'm currently applying Judith's scheme to the Herbarium: If possible we'd need a few lines for the overviews (no need to hurry, though), e.g. for the bushes section: What exactly is a bush? How can it be defined in general words? What does it discern from other plants? This should be placed on top of the overview then which contains all bushes. Same with the rest of the overviews.

Dear Sage:  We live to serve.  No sooner had your request hit the board than an Overview Description was prepared for your discerning eyes.  Please read it below.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
HERBARIUM OVERVIEW DESCRIPTIONS

Bushes Any woody shrub or multiple-branched (trunkless) small tree, usually from one fore to three peds.  “Weed trees” such as swamp willow and alder can be placed in this category.

Edible Plants This category refers to any plant that is primarily grown for consumption, and the subcategories are selfevident - fruits, berries, vegetables, tubers (rootcrops), grains, spices, and miscellaneous edibles such as nuts and beverages.

Flowers Plants that take their primary identity from the size and shape of their blooms.  They may have other uses or special abilities, but are generally known as decorative.

Medicinal Plants        These plants fall into two categories, which are not easily separable, as many Healing plants can be dangerous if misused or at higher dosages.  However, the category Poisonous should be reserved for plants which have no beneficial use whatsoever and are lethal or life-threatening.

Moss/Fungi There are a variety of useful spongy, sporal growths in Sorren which can be categorized as moss.  Lichens and other low-level plant forms also fall into this category.  Fungi is mostly represented by the familiar mushroom, some edible, some medicinal, and some dangerous.  Mushrooms which do not belong in the above categories may be placed here.

Trees Santharian trees can be classified simply as evergreen (whether needle-bearing or otherwise, trees that do not lose their leaves through fall and winter), deciduous (trees which lose and regrow their leaves) and tropical (plants which thrive in a permanently warm and damper climate, such as the palms)

Vines/Creepers Any fast-growing plant with long tendrils which requires the support of other surfaces (the ground, trees, buildings, other plants, etc.) in order to spread and thrive.  May be woody vines such as grapes or succulent vines such as kudzu.

Weeds  A weed is defined as a common plant or herb which may or may not be useful, but in any event grows where it is not wanted.  Assorted useful and even beautiful plants (plantain, dandelion) may fall into this category since they spread quickly or compete with others.

Water Plants  Seaweeds, reeds, floating plants, corals, sponges, and any other plant that grows on, in, or under the water.

Misc/Other   This includes plants used for dye, toiletries, cosmetics, or other specific uses, which do not fit neatly into one of the above categories.

Just thought about a different sub division.
F.E tree: I don't know if it is of great interest whether the tree keeps its leaves (evergreen), looses its leaves (??) or is a plant like the palm, but under which conditions it grows, f.e. in the desert, in the swamp, in the cool north or in a region with moderate climate. There are only a few plants which are found in every region. But if developing a place it would be easier just to look which trees can grow in this special place.so I have to look through all plants to find the ones I could integrate in the oecosystem of the Rahaz Dath, same with the animals.
Just a thought while I tried to categorize my new trees.
