OK - This is a sketch more than anything - very "draft quality!" I'll write something like the wine vine later :)  - It's also half plant / half alcohol dis - some what all over the place.. :

Judith - I'm not up to scratch with Dwarves, so I might need a lil' help.. :

Basic Overview of the Plant Orange in colour when fully grown the Smutch plant is about 1/4 a ped in diameter. In the general shape of a ball, with red and or black bazzare patterns across the top, looking like it's been burnt from the sun. The plant grows from a vine until it reaches approx 3 months and then seproates from the vine part of the plant and then continues to grow.

Eventually if left alone, the actuall Smutch would break down revealing the seed and thus a new smutch plant is created from the many seeds inside. Although this process takes a long time in the wild, the plant containes humdreds of seeds, so if left unchecked, takes over an entire area.

Where does it grow - who wants it in their areas? It's a very useful (good for the 'working' of the body... vitiams etc... )*big* orange veggie... :

Discovery of Smutch Ale First discovered by a dwarven miner Al' McDargon. After coming home one day from a hard day at the mines, Al' and his wife had an arguement which resulted in their container of suger being thrown across the room. Smashing against the wall and falling into the Smutch plant below.

Forgetting about the smutch plant in the corner of the room, the two went on a holiday. When they returned their house stunk of a bizzare smell. After examining the smell, Al finally found the Smutch plant holding a liquid inside. Thinking that one of his friends was playing a trick on him, Al got a glass and scooped up a glassful and much to his wife's dismay he drunk the liquid and then realised what it was.

While the couple were away, the Smutch plant and the sugar  fermented together. Gripping at his throat for a moment thinking that he wasn't able to "hold his "ale", Al savoured the taste and had another. Thus the Smutch plant was then used to create whisky...

Or something.. :

This state would be a vine or beer, to have the whisky you have to destille it first, but the plant is nice, perhaps use something else as common sugar? honey? another santharian sweetmaking stuff?

Uragel - no problem.

There are a couple of things, such as the dwarven name being unauthentic, the sugar which needs to be substituted (check the Common Spices thread) and a few straight grammar errors, but hey, you said it was a draft!   I like the 'look' of the plant, very unique and creative.  If you want to have it growing underground, you might think about describing it more as a type of fungal growth, if you see what I mean - a giant 'spore' or 'pod'....would be more effective.

If you'd like me to write the 'discovery' or 'legend' part, I can do that as well.  Capher and I have worked together the same way for entries, and it's a good way to find out about people's specialties!

Thanks Bard - that'd be great... Suggestions on the name would be appreciated also.. :   I was thinking that Dwarves remind me of Scotts - hence the name! :)

I'll re-word it as a fungi... (:lol  it's almost like a sign, I'm meant to do "icky" plants! - first mosses, now fungi'!! :lol )

Grammer and the like - I just wrote it! ;)  Wasn't really paying close attention to that at the time. Maybe next edit! haha.... But my grammer isnt the best anyway! <looks through the post at the excess ".." and winces> :

An easy way to distill is the following one:
(Don't do it, it may produce poisonous alcohol and is forbidden-!!)

Take two pots , one smaller than the other, it has to fit in the bigger one. In the smaller one you put your vine or ale or any fermented alcoholic fluid. Then put a lid on the smaller pot which has to be bigger than the smaller pot, but smaller than the bigger pot, got me?Heat the fluid till it evaporates, cool the lid, the vapor will condense at the lid and run into the bigger pod (think about the shape of your lid!). There you have a fluid with a  high percentage of alcohol. I wouldn't call it whisky though.
(that is something I learned from my grandfather:D )

Uragel -

You still interested in developing this?

If you could rewrite the description (as a fungal type of growth) and add the process of distillation (honey is more common than sugar) and so on, I'll write the 'discovery and development' legend for it and also put it into HTML when we are both satisfied.

Just didn't want to see it die forgotten....

OK, am currently working on the Northern Sarvonian Dwarves.  This would be perfect in their area (rocky, forested hills of the Prominent Mountains) - so we might have to tweak the area and growth conditions a bit, but I need something unique for trade and so on.  Dwarven Spirits, or "Scutch"   would be just right...

Also, your comment about Scotch / Scots was well-timed, as their lifestyle is very much like the early Gaelic peoples...

So, I'd like to use the Scutch plant in the North and will credit the Kurakim Dwarves with its discovery.

:lol  :lol  Just a little - Wasn't the Bard doing something with the dwarves who created the plant first - or are they finished? I'm not that up to date with the Dwarves... How long until Judith comes back..?
