Well, I can give some criticism. Although it may make sense that a shallow but wide root system would support a tree better, it is not necessarily true. While helping the tree get more nutrients and water and the like, it still needs a deep taproot, which is the most essential part of keeping a tree from falling. But aside from that, it seems to be a good post, detailed enough, and etcetera. Maybe mention a few of these animals that like to live near it?

Believe it or not, Smurf, the Coastal Redwood actually grows in this manner. I kinda cheated and used a redwood entry at the Humboldt County Forest website for research.
As for the animals; there are so many stinkin' creatures in sorren, I'd be quite scared to try.

I wasn't saying that it didn't, as I had no idea whether or not it did, but to be the strongest plants need a deep taproot, thus saying that they rarely fall becasue of their wide root systems is a misnomer. Perhaps they would be less likely to fall because all of their roots are intertwined in this shallow way, but a lone one would be much more likely to fall? I know extensive root systems make trees harder for the wind to fell, but deep is more important.
