The whiteglow tree

a) Categorization:

Tree, edible/medicinal plant

b) Basic Overview of the Plant

A tall white tree whitch bark is relaxing and addictive to chew. Known to be found in the Plains of Zum in Nybelmar.

c) Description

Named for the colour of it's bark, the whiteglow stands tall up to 40 peds from the ground. The crown of the tree is flat and wide, making whiteglow forests dark and damp.
A whiteglow tree seldom lives longer than 200 years.
The bark of the trees seems allmost unaturally bright against the otherwise dark background of the whiteglow forests.
The bark on the bottommost part of the tree is usually darker and more juicy.
The leafes of the whiteglow are small but many, coloured in a bright yellowish green they are quite transparant, making a beautiful display of various shades of green as the light penetrates the different layers of leafs.

d) Territory

It is only known to be in the plains of Zum in the continent of Nybelmar , but they may well exist in less civilized areas with the same climate, and it is possible that some have tried to import it in to suthern Santharia.
It is difficult to keep the tree alive in drier areas than the plains of zum.

e) Usages

The bark from the bottommost part of the tree, when you put it in your mouth and chew it, the fresh juices make your tounge feel a little numb and cold.
This is not the reason why you chew it, though.
The juices make you feel more awake and relaxed.
If you chew a big dose of it you'll loose all feeling in your tounge and probably end up lying on the floor gazing in to nothing, with a sheepish grin and a fascinated look in your eyes.
It is addictive.
If your only mentally addicted to it you tend to fumble a lot and be nervous when you're not under effect of the bark.
When you're physiccally addicted, the muscles in the neck tense up and you get intense headaches when not under effect of the bark.
The bark is exported to many other parts of the world, though most transport of it goes through the city of Strata on the southern part of santharia. Some even say there have been attempts to grow the tree there.

g) Myth/Lore/Origins

There are many stories and many sayings advicing against the use of whiteglow bark. (just as it is with wine and ale).
The bright white colour and the treacherous feeling of safety and relaxation brought on by the bark has made many believe it was created by Etherus during his fight with urtengor to affect the creatures and people of Nybelmar.

The tree seems okay, but in the post you mentioned forests of the trees, yet they can only grow on the plains of Zum, or whatever the place was? This seems to be a slight contradiction.

Oh. I'm sorry, for different reasons I've never really gotten myself very in to this. I can't seem to find how big these plains were... I was thinking a gigantic valley with lots of little towns and forests.

Oh, yes, they're only known in the plains of zum, but they may well exist in less civilized areas with the same climate.

Etherus would be a good god for this tree. He's all for indulgence and excess.
However, Eyasha is the goddess of peace; perhaps the complacency given by this plant may suit her. Either way.

Etherus seemed to fit well, as he's been active in nybelmar, though I could not find a map of Nybelmar to see how far the Plains of Zum are from the place where the fight took place...

At the moment the entry still doesn't seem fit for the site, as it is not elaborated enough as others are. Take a look e.g. at Viresses Coastal Redwood Tree on how elaborated entries should look like. At the moment we only have short, rough sentences at this draft, mentioning only the most important things.

Yes, yes, I know. It's not good enough yet. It was just a small online tweaking.
I'll do it properly in a couple of days.

I mean, the definition of plains isn't necessarily very flat areas, but means few trees, thus no forests. Flatlands could have trees, but not plains.

Sorry stuff's been taking so long, but the work with my own world is really taking over when it comes to helping you with yours.

So every time I think of something I might add to yours, I tweak it a bit and it fits even better to mine.
And free time is not given in abundance here either...
So I'll have to cancel this.
