We seriously need some more reagents to help the casting procedures of Wind Magic. i am not the expert on what exactly is needed, so please consult rayne.

what i would like to see is (a) plant (s) whose "flower" part actually floats above the stem. i was thinking of the floating part appear like a small cloud, shielding a brilliant sun-like sphere that is in fact the magical part of the plant. so, should this plant be rare?

also would anyone like to work on such a thing? if so, pls let me know,

coren

That kind of plant would look incredibly weird - such obviously and strikingly supernatural effects are rare even in magical plants. For example, Xarl's Wizardleaf (I'm just guessing it's Xarl's, whoever wrote it please don't take offense if I made a mistake) is probably almost as magical as they come. Yet the most unnatural thing about its appearance is that its petals are colored differently according to the elemental car'all of the vicinity. Having leaves actually float is something different... Maybe they could appear to float, but be really attached to the stem by some really thin almost invisible stems? That's the only problem I see about the idea though. :D

About rarity, you'd need to consult the mages, as you said. Probably there won't be much problem with it if it's not ridiculously overpowered as a reagent. Just making it a plant high in Wind car'all and slightly magical would probably be enough to make it a useful reagent...

Other than that, if no one else wants it, I could try to put something together, this sounds interesting:)    You need to have patience, though, with my final school year just having started I'm up to eyebrows in work and deadlines. The next update is in one week, and till that weekend I'll not have much time, so it would probably be at least three weeks from now on before you see it on the site.

If you need it done earlier, you'd probably want it done by someone else - or you might do it yourself of course...:p

Also, I'd need some idea for a good name. Coren, did you have anything in mind? Otherwise we could always ask Judith, she's good with names...:)
The only thing that comes to mind right now is 'Windleaf'. Not very creative or original, if I say so myself.;)

I got another idea for how to solve this 'floating' dilemma:

Picture a dandelion, whose 'fluffy part' is connected to the lower part of the stem by an extremely thin stem, which is almost completely hidden by the 'fluff', so it appears as a 'cloud' floating above the stem. The center of this sphere is a bright yellow (color matching the Wind car'all), and might even give off a soft glow in the dark.

Only question remaining is: Why the heck would the plant do that? There must be a reason, because plants don't waste their resources on looking pretty for nothing. Maybe the yellow part would, while the plant is blooming (the time when the dandelion has seeds and when it has a flower are also different after all) be the central part of the flower, and be colored yellow to attract insects. It glows in the dark because the insect attracted is some kind of glow worm that flies at night (we'd need to develop one I guess;)     ).

Once the insects have fertilized the flower, the seeds are formed and spread in the same way as on a dandelion plant.

What do you think about this idea so far, Coren?:D

EDIT: Whoops, sorry. This is Arancaytar of course. Forgot to change accounts...:o

What kind of spell are you trying to make?

It's a plant, not a spell, Rayne.:p  That's why it's in the Herbarium.:D

It's supposed to be a spell reagent though, but just one you'd generally use in Wind spells (are there such reagents that are not specific for spells, but can be used in any spell to increase focus on a certain element especially for untrained mages?)

Oh, or did you mean what Coren is gonna do with it once it's done? That's beyond me too, to be honest; maybe he does intend to use it in some specific spell. In that case, it'd be up to him to tell you, since I have no clue.;)

DarkMorpher hit it on the dot.

We don't need to make spell reagents. In most cases, no matter what the spell is, a reagent can get gotten from what we have. A plant like this isn't really needed unless you really want to make it just to make it. We have plenty of good reagents. We don't need to make more.

Dunno what Coren had in mind with it concerning spells, but I'm fascinated by the strange appearance of this plant. Unless it's totally useless, I'd like to make it.;)

I also have got some feeling he was gonna somehow use it in his story, since the first chapter of it deals with a Wind mage at Ximax. Is that correct, Coren?:)

*puts down all the bags & suitcases he had on his back, whistles*

whew! I thought that, since no one was really around, i could take the weekend off and get some paintings done... wrong time, wrong place i guess...

@aran and eferas: i have no trouble with any of you working on the plant. actually during my absence i've already begun a basic sketch of the plant (the only trouble is that i could not figure out how it could float in a cloud with the yellow stuff seen) and before the end of October *drops to his knees and prays* i plan finishing the painting, along with Wren's list of entries. but i'll put a picture of what i've got so far, soon.

@eferas: hmm, i like the idea - though it might put me into a lot of stress repainting the entire plant... hmm... i think you should talk with aran, and who ever will do the entry should go for it...

@rayne: i did not have a specific spell in mind, all i needed was a more reagents for the wind class. i am trying to design and write one of the lectures/lessons on the basics of using reagents, and need a few plants that are in fact edible. guess you're right though, hmm... give me a few moments to consider this...

LOL, reading your post gives me schizophrenia!:lol

Eferas and Aran are both me, just forgot to change accounts. Sorry.:rollin

" i think you should talk with aran, and who ever will do the entry should go for it..."

Yes, I'm going to talk to myself for a moment now. *slinks off* *comes back* Okay, we decided that Aran'll do the entry, seeing as Eferas isn't a world developer at all.:p

@Coren: I'm just going to wait with this until you finish the picture (and preferrably post it here), I would rather do the appearance section after I've seen the plant.:)

PS. Why are you bewildered?

@Mina: Yes, I'm still working on my Char description. Been doing that since some time in February. It should be ready soon though.;)

And I thought the 2+ weeks I took were long...

Well, in any case, I'm looking forward to seeing your character.  :)
