I tried to upload a new pic to th resources, but found out noone expected anymore from me, cause all the 12 pics were already were there.. so I had to replace pic nr 1, which wasn't going to be used anyway..
so here's the new one - "Dwarven Fury" - I thought it would fit somwhere in a description of a battle or something. Also, the original is 3800x3000, so a crop of one of the dwarves for a caracter description is possible. Anyways - let me know what you think, ok?

Hello Faugar!

And another nice picture! Thanx! This time once again a bit more on the comic side, I'd say, but nethertheless a wonderful picture which will fit pretty well to the site:)  I don't know any famous dwarven battles currently, but sooner or later we'll find something. I guess I will integrate it in the races entry on dwarves for now - if we have an appropriate battle we can put it there too. A crop of one of the dwarves also sounds fine, although their flying beards may look a bit weird. Maybe you can crop the left and the right guy and upload them on the resource section too?

Concerning the resources: Will add several more links to pics for you, no problem...

An additional comment about your signature, Faugar! I guess in this picture the signature isn't quite fitting - do you have a version without it on the pic? I usually add the signature of the artist myself (with the artist's name) in order to have it the same way at all pictures I integrate. Would it be possible to send me pictures without signatures?

BTW: Also good to hear that Roal is positive about allowing us to use his pictures (though he's stressed with other works too). I'm sure we'll find some nice things to use... Take a look at

www.rivium.com/roel
or
elfwood.lysator.liu.se/lo...roel.html,

guys!

sure, I can deliver a non-signed version. Just say what sizes (the crops too) you need. Too bad you didn't quite like the style, but I know what you mean.
And to everyone - take a look at those links - he's got some nice pictures there!

ok - I uploaded the pics into my folder on the ftp - Dwarf1, 2 and 3.jpg - feel free to crop/resize or resave (higher compression?) if needed. It wasn't really my intention to make them loook like from a comic book, but I guess I've been influenced much by Bisley and GamesWorkshop when it comes to dwarves, so it shows maybe... Anyway - I'm happy with the way it turned out :)

I like it!

Note: "Thee of little faith" is bad grammar. I read old english every day (King James version of the Bible).
Thee is an object, not a subject.
singular subject: Thou
plural subject: you
singular object: thee
plural object: you

Note to Faugar: Added 9 more positions for your pics and renamed the dwarves-pics to 13, 14 and 15 in order to make them visible on the Resource site:)

Additional note on the dwarves picture: I'm also happy with the way it turned out, Faugar! It only shows some comic influences (it of course isn't a typical comic), and these influences are not predominating, and this is quite ok. Once again especially the use of light effects has to be mentioned here - your pictures are all fabulous in this respect, especially at the "Curgan" picture, which I still like most.

Speaking about light effects: I always thought about a title picture for the Avaesthoría using powerful light effects, thus representing the whole content of book 1 ("Shadows of Móch'rónn") in the title picture - but I also know that I could never draw such a thing. I saw you already did several similar things already (playing with light/shadow), so perhaps such an image would be a challenge for you?

The idea at least is this: Eyrin, followed by his friend Leander, stepping down in a dark cave, a torch in hand - the cave entrance can only be seen in the background, covering a very small area of the pic, but somehow reminding the reader of the freedom of the outside. The picture is meant to look pretty oppressive. It should be surrounded by utter darkness, and the flame of the torch also seems to be suffocated by the surrounding darkness. It should somehow evoke an eerie and ominous feeling (the three planned books including the title pics are supposed to become "brighter" in the course of time). You can see Eyrin in the picture in full, but the light mainly plays around his face, maybe making his features seem a bit unnatural... On the front left and right you can see some stalagmites and stalagtites (hope these are English words?), perhaps also some cobwebs... *brrrr*

Well, this is just an idea. Keeps running circles in my head, and whenever I see such a good use of lighting like in your pictures, Faugar, I think that this could make a good picture, if you tried your hand on it. - What do you think?

first - thanks all for kind words.
second - to Art. - you know what? a funny thing is, that a couple of days ago, I started a picture, where a guy with a torch is looking for a way in a dark dungeon, but since the picture didn't succeed, I was thinking of another version, where you see some treasure hunter with a torch and behind and above him, a web with some spider beast on it, just lit by the light of the torch... but since I didn't like that either, but wanted to do some pic with a dark space, and one light source - candle or torch - and one someone - I think this would be great if I try to make the piece you had in mind! Dang.. it even might be premonition I was experiencing.. ;)
tell me more (or say where I can read all about it)!
p.s. I upped another, somwhat strange maybe, pic on elfwood tonight, so I hope it will be available this week - it's called "3 wise men".. oh, and I got a gallery at toonscape, and even got my first review tonight!

Now this indeed sounds like a strange co-incidence, Faugar *hehe*;)  Looking forward to such an image!

And nice to hear/see too that also people at Toonscape like your works... Hmmm... What additional things would you like to know?

Eyrin: Vaelaron once made a pic of him, so the new picture should have some sort of resemblence if possible... See www.santharia.com/people/eyrin.htm There's a more or less detailed description of him at Chapter II of the already translated part of the Avaesthoría. Here's the part in full length:

"He was about twenty cycles of age, tall and of an exceptionally pleasing build. The latter quality being subject to the degree of descernment one is prepared to grant in these matters to the girls of the town. His hair was markedly darker than was usual among the lads of Santharia's northern territories and reached all the way to his broad shoulders, in the manner of many an adventurous popular hero. His chin and cheeks on the contrary were always clean shaven and thus formed one more token of his vigorous youthfulness which equally did not escape the scrutiny of the town's nubile daughters. Not only the maidens however counted his features among those easily remembered: on the one hand this was apparently due to Eyrin's mysterious dark eyes which always shone enigmatically out of their sockets as not to allow their vis-à-vis any certainty on what thoughts might be harbored by the man they belonged to; on the other hand the singularity of the visage was underlined by a big scar beneath the right eye. This scar Eyrin bore as the mark of a brawl he had involuntarily gotten into the cycle before with some scoundrels from Arigost. He carried it now as if it were a lasting sign proclaiming his courage to the world and maybe the scar was one of the reasons for the general respect Eyrin was accorded by the townspeople. If so, it certainly was not the only one. Eyrin was known to be of honest and conscientious nature. He had pluck but equally circumspection and patience, a combination which distinguished him from the all too many men of the town and its environs. Some of those had set their aims higher than their inexperience would permit and thus had found a permanent and inglorious abode in some distant cemetery or even some utter wilderness. Eyrin was a stranger to this kind of excessive adventurism, this unreflecting recklessness seeking danger at any cost. He rather was a nature-loving lad who spent most of his time hunting in the woods or gathering mushrooms and berries. Apart from this he rated as the first courier in the service of the Count in case some important message had to be taken to one of the neighboring shires, a task presenting itself on not too many occassions but gratefully fulfilled by Eyrin as a welcome change. Maybe the respect Eyrin was held in by the people of Voldar, was also due to his tranquil and insouciant nature which made him avoid any familiarity with them. Well, he was an orphan after all and his education may have remained a bit fragmentary but at least he made his occasional appearance at the inn, always in a jesting mood and with some joyful tune on his lips."

Leander, the guy accompanying him, is meant to be a bard. He has long red hair which he ties together behind his back. Nothing more of interest known, I guess.

If the picture by chance allows to let more people shown behind Eyrin, you could perhaps also let the rest of the company show: a dwarf and a halfling.

Anything more you'd like to know in detail?

I was reading your passage and I couldn't help but notice the phrase 'town's nubile daughters'.....don't get me wrong but the town sounds like a veritable harem! :lol  So I gather Eyrin's quite the cutie-pie....should I get into my patented swooning position ;)

*hehe* Aren't you already married, Dalá'Valannía, and out of the game? I thought I've read that somewhere if I'm not completely wrong...

Anyway, a veritable harem is always fine for a young hero like Eyrin. However, the hopes of the female readers come to a soon end when they will read at the end of Chapter III that Eyrin has already given his heart to the beautiful Jolanda once and for all. The passage is the first and last appearance of Jolanda in the complete book 1 of the Avaesthoría and in it Eyrin just says goodbye to her *sniff* (I hear Sarah Brightman here) - for a much longer time than Eyrin thinks at this time... It is possible that there is a re-union in one of the following books. However, be prepared for a real existential tragedy...

Huh? Where ever did you read that piece of matrimony news?! Because it's news to ME! :lol  No, I'm not married, I'm still a doting single auntie to my nephews!

Oh let Eyrin and Jolanda be re-united! I love a happy ending!

*hehe* Hey, perhaps there are things in your life you aren't even aware of yourself, Dalá'Valannía!? Just ask your husband - he should know more!!! *grin* No, I guess Coór'Efér has spread this rumour already two years ago if I'm not mistaken, at least this is what my senile mind comes up with... But in case you're searching your husband in vain - welcome to the club!

Concerning the re-union of Eyrin and Jolanda: Well, they will be re-united, that's for sure, but it wouldn't be an Artimidorian ending if the Avaesthoría doesn't end in a spiritual, elven way. It would be maybe a tragic ending for a human story if the hero dies in the moment when he is united with his beloved. But is the Avaesthoría really a human story? Why is it called the "Avaesthoría"? And who the hell is Eyrin???

If Coór'Efér ever comes back from the great gray beyond, remind me to ask him how the rumor that I'm hitched without my knowledge exactly started!
