Here's part I of the promised additions Faugar did to the Avaesthoría pic - a really cute rat staring at the party (and waiting for comments). I personally like it a lot!

This crop will also hopefully find its way into the Santharian Bestiary:)    BTW: Gryffydh, a Santharian member who hasn't shown up for quite a while, mailed me that she looks forward to do some more Santharian stuff, so maybe the rat description will be a start here...

Yes, cute as a button....that is, until he bites you in the shin and for the next few days, you're okay, it's just a little itsy, bitsy bite. Then on the third day, you develop a sniffle that turns into a full-blown cold. Next, you get a fever and the sweats and you start getting hallucinations. Blood comes out when you pee and it hurts like the beejeezus when you breathe. Your skin have a suspicious yellowish tinge to it but the kicker comes when the purple boils develops. You start foaming at the mouth and your hair drops out....and on the fifth day, you're being taken to the local cemetery, oh look, your very own burial plot in the earth!

But that aside, the rat is rather sweet :lol

Btw, is it possible to draw using computer software, stuff like Photoshop etc, even though you can't draw to save your life?? I do really want to create wonderful images like Faugar and Linda but I. Can't. Draw!

hmm.. actually drawing on the pc has a good and a bad side. probably multiple, but I'll name you one.. or two or more.. anyway:
good: it's cheaper then buying paint and paper and brushes etc - even a A5 wacom thingy.
bad: it's more expensive then a pencil and paper
bad: drawing is different (harder?) as you don't look at your hand, but at wht it draws! (tough when trying to draw straight lines, and the tablet is lying on your lap, at a different angle then you expect it). It's not easy to draw long lines.
good: you can achieve a lot (more) with a pc and tablet then conventional drawing/painting, and quicker.
and finally - I've heard everyone can learn to draw (it's like any other thing you learn).
I hope this helps :)

p.s. thanks all for your rat comments...;)

Thanks for the tips on PC drawing, Faugar! Is there any other way to achieve computer drawing without buying a tablet and the necessary equipment? I was thinking more along the lines of creating computer generated figure graphics? Can Adobe do that? Or any other software? Art, any suggestions? I guess I could draw two lines intersecting together at one point in the horizon with a ruler but other than that....!

if you think computrt generated people and animals - think poser. but it's 3d, so it's very limited in what you can generate..

Oh....I guess in the end, a pencil and paper is still the best way to start :)  Maybe everyone can draw but not everyone does it well!

Btw, I meant me. As in everyone may not draw well, yes, that's me. Yours truly....*trying to avoid an international incident from exploding*

Hello Dalá'Valannía!

Sorry for answering so late, but the ezBoard problems prevented me from posting:(

Ok, now to your question: I personally am a mouse drawer (isn't it interesting to state this at the thread of commenting to the pic of a rat?!?). You don't really need a tablet in order to draw, cause the tablet is in fact more or less a better mouse (and you have some more sensitivity with the pen), but in general you draw like with a mouse.

Computer generated figure graphics or 3D-modeling of which you speak are much more complicated than you might expect and Photoshop is not the right program for it. 3D-modeling is something for professionals, I'd say...

Well, I personally was a pencil drawer at school during boooooring lessons, using white tables, a pencil and some imagination, and then I simply smudged the lines in order to achieve some results which looked like landscapes. In fact the smudging was doing the whole work, not the lines I drew. If your draw a line on the wrong position at a white table you can still smudge it in another direction. If you take a look at Photoshop you get such a tool at hand: a smudge tool and an also airbrush. You don't need to know more then the basics of Photoshop in order to draw with it. Of course you need to get accustomed to a mouse when drawing with such a program, but I guess that's also not too difficult. If you cannot draw something Photoshop will do his best to help you. Check out the Workshop section - here you'll find a detailed tutorial of mine how to do maps. Though you might like to do something different than maps you can learn a lot on how to use Photoshop when following the tutorial step by step. You will see it isn't that difficult, you just need some practice.

You won't achieve the results of Faugar or Enayla/Linda if you're a lousy drawer, but you'll see that you don't need to be an expert in order to draw something nice.

BTW: Enayla also has several valueable tutorials spread over the web - I'll see if I can integrate some of these in the Santharian Dream too. I have also received the membership information of Roel van Mastbergen (Santharian name: Elro), and I will start including his work by integrating his tutorial for Computer Colorization with Photoshop at the Workshop section.

you're right about that pencil smudging - your hands are tools when drawing too, I know only too well (I did a lot of that, especially on backgrounds).. :)
And about drawing with a mouse - sure it's possible, it's tougher then a drawing tablet, but it's doable. I have done several drawings like that, but mostly colored/patched up scanned pencil drawings (like some of the pictures used here on santharia!). And like you said - th beauty of the pc programs like photoshop is that you can always "undo" and "redo" stuff, so it's no problem if you make mistakes (which is different when drawing with a pencil, and fatal when drawing with a pen), so why not try?
And finally - the tutorials you find on the web are helpfull I guess (sometimes), so chceck them out. I've seen Roel's coloring tutorial - it's good and complete. Read it.
I'm working on a picture now, and have .jpg's of pretty all the stagtes - from the pencil sketches, through several changes and decisions I made druring the process to (not yet finished) piece, but I don't think it would make a good tutorial HERE, since it's a SciFi kinda drawing.
Anyway - I encourage you to try - it's always fun when whenever you're creating something nice (but you already knew that, because you write great!) :)
