Thanks Art and Faugar, both of you are my knights in shining armour! I was wondering whether I should get Adobe Photoshop 6.0 and all your comments about it were very helpful :)  I love you guys! Faugar, the link you recommended looks great, I'm gonna check it out now!

I've started drawing but very very basic kiddy stuff, mostly tracing first. I guess it's as good a place to start as any ;)

yes, it's like learning words or writing - by repeating something (copying it) you learn it! and drawing from a model or a photo, only by looking at it, is the next step :)
p.s. did you mean "purchase" photoshop?
