So here it is: The first complete version of Faugar's title picture for the Avaesthoría: Eyrin and company in full size: Please don't hesitate to comment on the picture - criticism and proposals welcomed from everybody in order to make a fantastic picture even more perfect! I have already discussed several things with Faugar on ICQ (do I really have to say that it is a terrific pic?), but in order to know whether we're on the right track when adjusting/improving certain things for another version we'd like to hear your opinions!

ok, I've done the hobbit hair, the sword, the 'black - background - thing' and added one rat - next to the pool, to the right.
still need to add the webs and spiders we discussed. don't know what to do about water yet.. ;(

Looks quite cool!
I've some problems with Eyrin's posture, though. It looks somewhat "wrong". It looks at least not healthy! ;)
The face also looks somewhat too smooth and round, but that's something Art should argue about.
Perhaps some harder shadows...

The light in the background, the ceiling and the other characters look fantastic! (a goodie at the end! ;)  )

Bye, Koldar

things I like
-the cave: it's got a really great texture
-the hobbit ( orshould I say halfling?) has got a heroic pose

things I don't like
-I don't know, well the whole group has got well, I  don't know, they look as if they are waiting for someone to take a picture =)
Well they are standing still; they're frozen, they are not "alive"...

I guess this "cheese" effect is based on the fact that the people are standing too close together, waiting for someone to take the picture. But I have discussed this with Faugar already. I think moving some of the persons more to the background in order to make a row instead of a group waiting for the one with the camera should do the job pretty well. This would also improve the impression that the group has entered the cave and is now moving in.

talk about criticism.... man.. this is a lot to take in, for one picture.
Koldar - could you pls say what exactly is wrong with eyrin?
the static thing - yes, I realise there's no 'movement' in the picture, and it would take too much to change this - I would have to redo all the characters, which I simply don't feel like doing now..
the 'tightly packed group' thing - maybe I will just erase dwarf or the bard? it will give the other one some room..
and adding the webs seems like a plaster on someone who's just lost a limb.. maybe the picture ain't worth working on any further after all..

Eyrin looks shifty....why is he looking to the side?? :lol  Eyrin's shadow against the cave wall looks a little too sharp....anyway, all in all, I rather like it. Has a definate Lord of the Rings feel to it.

Do I sense a bit of resignation here, Faugar? No reason for that! I have to agree with Dalá'Valannía: This picture definitely has a Lord of the Rings-feeling to it! And with some adjustments and improvments here and there (it is a huge picture, so of course there are more things everybody can comment on), but with some of these further adjustments and additional decorations it will be your current masterpiece, Faugar! Something on which you can stare for hours in order to admire all the little details and something I'll have to view several times a day, cause I of course will print it and put it on the wall... *grin*

I don't think that cropping a character would be a good idea. If the bard would stand behind the dwarf (a little smaller, a bit further away) this would do the main job and should be no problem with a painting program. And perhaps a bit of an action pose for the dwarf and/or the bard are still possible? E.g. you currenlty don't see where the bard has got his hands (and you could get the impression that he maybe has got them in his pockets, which is strictly forbidden for adventurers *grin*). Perhaps the outlines of a sword the bard is holding, shining in the shadows? This would add some more action to the scene...

Once again: The picture is great! And I guess I wouldn't spend so much time analysing if I wouldn't think that this is exactly the picture I would like to have for Book 1 if it will ever be published:)  And remember: As the Avaesthoría will of course become a bestseller this picture will be the one millions of fantasy fans will enjoy!! *grin*

Interesting light and shadow effects...
the eyes make it look like something is getting ready to jump out at them...

hands in pockets?
Maybe strickly forbidden for long-lived, loner adventurers. For those that work as part of a team and sings attacks or something....maybe not a problem....

Faugar has already added a crossbow to the bard at the weekend! Have to put it up in order that you can view it all... Will do when I'm at home!! And: He also added a cuuute rat, which will find its way to the Compendium! Will be up too this evening:)

What have I done?! Pushing a fantastic artist into depressions! That was not what I had in mind.

I have problems with the right leg, which is lighted by the torch. The thigh looks somewhat too curved as if the bone is not developed right. (That was meant with not healthy, the other leg looks good).
Perhaps you can work over the Highlights, that might be enough. And the face just looks too smooth because the dwarf and the hobbit look more detailed. I can't see any muscles and bones in this face.

Come on! We're nitpicking! That's the best indication that this work is fantastic! I would also say that it looks quite good how the group is standing together as if they're unsure what will happen next.
Perhaps (if  possible) have them stare into the darkness instead right into the "camera" as it was stated by some people, but that's all.

Somewhere is the Mythemap and my Strata-CoA. Counter-critisize it and it'll be my turn to become depressive! ;)

Bye, Koldar

*hehehe* Isn't it really interesting how much different things people see in one single picture? I guess if all of us would look at a photograph of a simple red box and it would be stated that it is a drawing which can be critisized all of us would find something which isn't quite fitting for a red box and should be drawn differently, eh? *grin*

I think the dwarf stands to near the other characters if you move him a bit, he and the others would have more space to move in. Until now it loks like the dwarf is drawn on the picture because if he wasnt in it, a member would get angry!
