Um.... er... (Judith sneaks quietly into the artists' scriptorium and puts a new canvas by one of the huge windows, where the fresh morning light will fall on it immediately.  She then pins a little note to the drapery beside it:)

Dear mods, scholars, and fellow artists:  one more late-night effort.  Sorry to be depleting your aura reserves...we'll have to ask our sages to magick up some more at this rate!  This has a bit of a story - the background was originally intended as 'the Minotaur City', a place of fable.   The minotaur, a brutish sort, who had been posing for me, got tired of how long the picture was taking and returned to his homeland, stealing my much-thumbed copy of Dame Sausade's cookbook (the one she signed for me, too!) on the way out.     Seeker seems to have been much more fortunate in his choice of models, for his taurian is certainly a much handsomer and nobler type.  Anyhow, I painted the brute out and was happy to discover that I could reinterpret his hometown as a dwarven-carved port known as Seagirt Towers, somewhere along the Santharian coast.   I believe it is located on the Ximaxian peninsula, as I don't know any other dwarven clans who would be comfortable working that close to the nasty wet water.... of course they do not reside there, but were hired to create the needed harbour by their human neighbors at the time.   My new model is one of the young trader lass apprentices.  She wears xazure blue linen, with a fagoted neckline - simple and sturdy, but with a bit of vanity in her choice of (expensive) dye shade that matches her striking eyes.

Awe that's too bad.  Your minotaur and my minotaur could have had a battle.  But I like the freckled girl.  she is nice.  grin

Quite a beauty your lass, Judy - while maybe not the traditional model she seems to the be the one to weather the rough tides at the sea environment she's living in and shows character. And one can get lost in these deep blue eyes for sure, which gets you yet another aura +1 of course!

Three smaller things I'd like to point out however:

- Her outline (hair) contrasts strongly with the background. I'd recommend to use a bit of feather around the hair, thus easing it out a bit.
- The line at the inner side of the eye pointing to the nose at the left eye (seen from the viewer) seems a bit too rough.
- The shadows especially below the neck look a bit too tow dimensional. Maybe they need to be made a bit stronger to avoid that effect.

(Then again, some things become more prominent at enlarged versions of pics, so take these things just as suggestions.)

At any rate: Great stuff once again!  thumbup

I love the picture, Judy. And I'm pleased to see that you're continuing your experiments with form. It works really well here: it's as if the bizarre towers and bridges were the lass's thoughts!

My only suggestion for improval would be the sea waves, which look a bit pictogram-like to me, especially in the bottom right corner - the waves are more regular than they need be, I suppose?

No, not necessary... Just wanted to make sure that the text you want to integrate is the final version :) Just leave the rest there!
28 May 2013, 03:57:46
Do you need me to remove the rest of it?  It was supposed to be a full blown entry, but still gathering facts for the other stuff.  I'll move the stuff to be integrated into its own entry.  :)

No problem there - are you sure that you've posted the final version? Text on the site is about a year old...

Art, I want to submit my Antislar Overview, Appearence, Territory and People sections for uploading on the next update, please. No rush with what you have going on, however.
