Title: Masterplan: Sarvonia: Icelands Coast Region
Post by: Altario Shialt-eck-Gorrin on 25 May 2009, 08:16:36
MASTER PLAN FOR THE SARVONIAN ICELAND COAST REGION

Master Plan Goal Definitions
  • Place and Geography (#post_Places)
  • Resources and Essentials (#post_Resources)
  • Politics (#post_Politics)
  • People and Tribes (#post_People)
  • History (#post_History)
  • Recent Situation (#post_Recent)

How should Master Plans look like?
Each given section should contain a list of tasks that can be done to fulfill part of the overall goal - be it to suggest entry proposals, collecting data, drawing a rough map to illustrate something so that other works can use that as basis etc. Important is that the results of such a goal should be able to make it to the site once that goal is finished - this is not always directly possible, but has to be prime directive. As various things drown in the gigantic monstrous gorge also known as the "Forum Depths" in Santharian jargon, it has to be ensured that this monster isn't fed with our goals.

Goals can be roughly defined by simply mentioning the entry that should be made, or in more detail by adding in a few lines in what direction something should be developed. Important is not so much the precise definition of the goal (a rough sketch on a Places entry could already be found e.g. in the Places Forum), key is the inspiration these goals produce, and thus eventually the results.

Forgive me Art, if this seems a bit presumptious.  But, with me nearing the end of the first draft of my Remusian rewrite, it will create many entry needs in the future.  I figure that if I make a masterplan, it will be easier for me to keep track of all the things that need to be done, by myself or by anyone that feels the urge to venture this far north.

Just say the word, and I shall delete the thread if it does not meet with your approval.  I have yet to start filling it out, so to garbage it would not be too big a blow.  Just my ego, but my former wives have pretty much taken that anyway. :buck:

Presuming this is not dismissed by Ye Olde All-Powerful Artimidor, I did say that I would write the Whisk-Away entry as a forfeit for something that escapes me now, but I'm sure the debt still stands....

The most important thing about Masterplans, really, is that you have people who would be willing to participate. Otherwise it becomes a 'To-Do List'.....never fun!

Ye Olde All-Powerful Artimidor is pretty fine if people organize their stuff and make a thread for that on the Forum :) But yeah, as Deci said - Masterplans have the tendency to sit around on the Forum being reduced to To-Do Lists that eventually don't get done. So no recipe here how to counter that, but if you see a possibility to recruit people to realize parts of the Masterplan, that's always a plus ;)

As I introduce more to the list, it will include other people and their work as well, most notably Talia and the Wicker Islands and the Hiimiko, Tharoc and the Orcs, Alyssa and Choan of Orc, and their collaborative Daughters of Choan entry, and other entries planned, reserved, or in production that I know I am forgetting at the moment.

I don't really want it to be a simple To Do list, in that it implies that they are things I plan on doing alone, and that is not my hope.  As more is developed, I'm hoping that more interest will be created in that little corner of the world.

As far as Whisk-Away is concerned, I can now amend the list to show that piece as reseved for you.  I'm not going to push those wagers on anyone, but would still be more than happy to have you and your talents lend a hand to the Icelands society. :D

I volunteer for the places entry, carry that in my head for quite some time now, won't go in detail with undeveloped stuff though, think more of landscape, weather and such things. Is that ok? Not too soon though, maybe not before next winter, then it is easier to imagine a snowy region :)

And of course the Wicker Islands, all what belongs there.

Hey Altario,

Say, did you have particular plans for the mysteriously abandoned city of Ombaxxis? If not, may I permit myself to direct my thoughts toward a History entry: "The Abandonment of Ombaxxis"?

I assume if it's to have a history entry the place itself might do with an entry of some sort?

Shabby, are just doing the history?  I reserved the entry for you.  If you are just doing the history, then Valen can do the entry.  You will both, of course, need to work closely with each other so the two mesh.

Title: Re: Masterplan: Sarvonia: Icelands Coast Region

Thanks for the reservation, Alt.

And thanks for the interest, Valan!

May I keep both history and place reserved for the time being? I was intending to write the history in the first place - but some of my ideas would have rather strong implications for a place entry. (The buildings may not be all that they seem ...) So I would prefer to have as few limits as possible to begin with. Hope that's okay?

Valan, if it turns out that I decide to do the History only, you could have first refusal on the Place entry, maybe?

I hope I'm not being too proprietory. But I'd like to let this roam in my mind for a while, if I may!

I think perhaps the 'Rheeah' should be added to this list. They're mentioned throughout the Ice Tribes entry, and also in the Remusian men entry. The only information I could find is that they're a large part of the diet of the tribes, and that their fur is used.

Perhaps a domesticated animal (Hard with a nomadic lifestyle) or perhaps a herding type beast?

Will do.  Have no idea what it is, but like you said, could be a herding animal.

What are you interested in?  Bestiary or herbarium entries are good to get your foot in the door.

I might try my hand at the Klymmer, if that isnt reserved yet by anyone?

Hi Arsha,

It looks to me as though that bird hasn't been reserved by anyone as yet, and so I'm sure you'd be free to develop it. Though wait on that for confirmation by Altario.

Something to consider ... I wrote the entry for an animal in that part of the world for a picture (the Paxen) and was told during the process that it was decided that animals in and around that part of Caelereth needed to be blue in some way. So that might help you in writing up your bird.

The Klymmer is yours, Arsha. I'll PM you my initial ideas on them, and you can use them or not as is your wish. :)

For clarification, blue is not mandatory, but we have an unwritten guideline that Hrugchuk grass is blue because of the "antifreeze" that is in it allowing it to survive in the harsh environment.  This property is passed along then through the animals, etc, that eat it.  So, grazing animals such as the Paxen and Wison are coloured in blue.  Animals that don't eat the grass (or the lichen, as is the case with the Vertan men) are less susceptible.  Predators are a little less susceptible.

In short, blue is a general thing, but not absolute.

Maybe instead of it being an unwritten guideline it should be a written guideline? It would cause less confusion that way.

Okay thanks Altario, I am brainstorming as we type. I am keeping the puffin/guillemot look, but the feet are inspired by the blue-footed booby, which incorporates the blue theme. I am thinking of a puffin/guillemot themed beak, with the top half being Puffin and the lower half of the beak being Guillemot but with a large hook to help it catch fish. Would it be okay if it had large eyes, like a bird of prey? I am just drawing a rough sketch of the beak on a notepad. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Cheers

Arsha Windblade

It's your baby.  Make it look anyway you wish (as long as it makes sense, of course :) ).  Like I stated in the PM, as long as it keeps to the few details in the RM entry, make it anyway you wish.  I don't want to stifle your creativity.  But, feel free to PM me if you have specific questions or concerns, or need specific help. :)
