If you do an entry, always make sure to use the appropriate development icon when you post it here on the Forum at the first post of the thread. Change this icon by editing the first post at the thread once the status changes as well. The icon may also be changed by a Moderator or Administrator.

... Entry is still being edited, not really ready for comments yet
... Entry is done, waiting for comments now
... There's a major question concerning this entry, where an answer is necessary. You can/should put the topic of the question in brackets in your post title.
... Entry is ready for upload. Don't add this posticon, if there wasn't at least one of the veteran members who gave you the ok to do so.
... Entry was already integrated by your dear webmaster. If you can't see it on the site yet, it's probably because the update is still in progress.

Title: How to Design New Races
Post by: Artimidor Federkiel on 28 December 2003, 01:38:00

General new races and tribes development stop currently, guys! Let's concentrate on what we have instead of developing the 1467th race or tribe. Thanx for understanding, but this is a necessary measure we have to take. Quality beats quantity. Let's go for more depth!

A brief paragraph summarizing your tribe or race. E.g. where located, boundaries of kingdom. Mentioning of most important things to provide a general orientation.

Physical and or psychological characteristics.

        Coat of Arms
Describe the tribe's coat of arms, if any, and perhaps add why it looks like this, what the symbols mean and what historical, cosmological or mythical significance they have.

Describe where the people live: natural boundaries, conditions there, if they're nomands when and why they leave, when/how they came there.

Describe here what makes the people unique and special. E.g. good horsemen, fighters, etc. Just mention there what this tribe has what others don't have. Mention special abilities here, e.g. magic, training ect.

In what kind of buildings do they live in?

Clothing worn: discern between men/women if possible and seasons perhaps..

Any special foods they eat. Take into account the circumstances they're living in.

Weapons - any special ones they use? Or what are the most common among the tribe? Describe them here!

If any: men/women

Describe what form, e.g. Monarchy, Democratic, Republic, Emperor, Tribal, Tyranny, ect.

What does the tribe mainly produce and is there any trading with other tribes?

       Natural Resources
Describe what natural resources may be found in your land area. Please take into account where the tribe in fact lives.

        Holidays, Festivals and Observances
Describe the celebration days (religious, pagan etc.) which are of importance for this tribe.

 Important Achievements (Optional)
You can mention here for what exactly the tribe is famous for, like an important building which was erected, inventions, political breakthroughs etc.

* Origin/development of tribe or race.
* Important people (plus living dates) or events in this tribes or race's history.
* Any Cities, Castles, Strongholds built by your tribe/race should also be put in your history.

I keep losing the link to this, so I'll put a piece of bubblegum on its back and stick it here. There was also a very useful thread discussing how elves speak Tharian (that they are very literal minded and do not use metaphors and that what comes across to humans as a metaphorical way of speaking is actually a reflection of their seeing themselves as part of nature etc). But I can't seem to find it.

- Concerning Elves... (,6736.0.html)

Hi Coren, are you thinking of the Styrásh entry?

Elves don't know ideas in the human sense, abstraction is something strange to the elven race. An example: Altough their language posesses its own word to describe beautiful things (aváth) this is a word always implying the conrete beauty of things. The human word "beauty" and all theoretical consequences deriving from it cannot be understand directly by elves. This is the reason why they speak of "ésh-aváth" (the "false" aváth) when refering to a human abstract expression of beautiful things.

No, not that one. It was an ancient forum thread - made by either wren or rayne. It had a lot of example sentences. Something with autumn leaves falling.
