Title: Deep Winds Portal
Post by: Xarl on 19 February 2002, 22:51:00
Umm, this may sound stupid, but how did it show up? Because I figure Coor must have had some reason for putting it there... If none, I think I'd like to co-opt some Dwarves. Planning some kind of massive tunnel, some of the little buggers dug a bit too deep under the influence of Coor. Say, to the Underworld. So a horde of Netherworlders were already digging from the opposite point to meet them. So what, Coor and company were (improvisational bit about the Underworld) already bound to never pierce the sheild between the two. The unwitting minions, on the other hand... And so we have the Portal, tower, and swarms of minions already prepared to destroy everything.

Hmmm, interesting concept.  I always figured that it was located here due to it being the furthest away from civilization at the time, also there would be months of darkness at a time which would be quite palatable to the god of Chaos one would think.  This would all help to give a thinner wall to the prison that hold Coor.  Do you have icq or anything as I will want to have some good long talks to you about this, as the DWP will be a major force in all of Northern Sarvonia.

Hmmmm.....

Plausible, certainly.  As to which Thergerim were involved....

Perhaps a legend (or will this be actual history?) that the Morgerim - the so-called Dark Dwarves - were the tribe responsible for being deluded?  That would give us a great reason for why they are still regarded with some trepidation by humans, and some disdain by other Dwarves.  But of course you'd have to OK this with John Silvercyst; they are his babies.

He did describe them as highly skilled, deep delvers, and more open-minded (I think!) than regular Thergerim.  If he 'nyets' the proposal, then give me a line and I'll look into creating a bit of history/legend for you regarding the Dread Portal's origins and Dwarven involvement!

In the Mystran entry there's a reference to its creation. Obviously a darkelf mage is involved. At least he opened it .

Yea. A Dark Elf mage opened the portal and the Spyders, who had been warped by the shadow plane which the portal opened up to, came out as Mystrans.

Right, there's currently a group of dwarves in the mountains right below the DWP, and dark elves living in the forest below and in the area around as well.  The dark elves migrate from the hovel frond forest (need to finish that entry sometime) and go North where an empire is formed with them at the head, and the dwarves, orcs, and humans of the area being subjegated.  This provides the structure and means for the massive invasion far to the South and thus SWIII.
