Title: 1st Poem from me
Post by: Uragel on 27 November 2001, 10:18:00
I looked around and couldn't find the other poem posts, so I've come to the conclusion that here is as 'gooder' place as any. It's not written in any particular style other than how I 'felt' at the time..

-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-

iú aleán sá avá
artán aviar
hýlphan aleáan
quarón ná, eu
iú stryán weivóc quei

atrán iúi oh aviar
weivóc kará
hýphan aleán
ó'mére, ó'kará nó

-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-

I sing to the one
who can read my soul
gaze in to my eyes
tell me true
that my love was meant for you

bless us oh High Spirits
let destany run true
to gaze, to sing
to spend eternity with you

Seems the other poets here are inspiring!

I like it Uragel, but I'm far away of being competent.

Art here is your first Styrash poem. I like it. What do you think? I wrote one too, but it is not as good as this one. They are both in the rpg forum under Iepathor's

The English version sounds fine, Uragel, but I see that you're not a native elf, cause you violated some styrásh principles in your desire to convert it... *grin*

First line would in fact have to look like:

aleá iú sá aváthim

instead of

iú aleán sá avá

(same with other lines).

Explanation: See the tables at the styrásh principles. You've converted it too literally. The subject "iú" is always placed after the action word in styrásh, and "alía" is first person, instead of the infinitive. Finally "aváthim" is the accusative of "avá"...

Take it easy;)

Wow!

What a gorgeous language to write poetry in!

Please rework the Styrash, and post the whole thing again - I can't wait to see what it will look like.

Now all we need is a few poetic gruntings from the orcs, to balance it off, and we will have a pretty good Compendium section of Songs and Poems of Santharia.

And since a LOT of people have commented that they can't find a 'poem-posting-place', perhaps we can agree that they go under Miscellaneous, and the Bard will agree to look through old posts and round them up for poor overworked Art?

Of course, if you remember where you put your lovely lyric, please haul it up yourself and repost it in Misc and I will be very happy with you.  Not to mention how Art will feel.

Love ya all!  Play on, play on!

Damn, now I'm learning Dutch, English, French, German, Latin and Greek. But now I've to go and study Styrash as well, just to understand those poems....

*grin* You're lucky, Theo, that Uragel has provided the English version as well...

Well, we'll put up more Forum sections sooner or latere, one for the Santharian Library only, so that we have the same Forums as we we have World Development sections on the site.

Hmmm... Now that I see how much poetry we've got there I should maybe also consider putting my only English poem I've ever written into this section somehow, but it would require a male God, though it's not really a religious poem if you ask me... Hmmm... Maybe not such a good idea.

Thank you to all - I'll re-work it and then edit that post rather than make a new entry (also make it easy for cutting and pasting)

Thank you again ( Capher they liked it!!!! hehe)

Didn't have a single doubt in my mind that they wouldn't Uragel. Who would have thought that my character singing a song would lead to this. ;)  See what you bring out in people.:)
Keep up the good work.
