Title: The blacksmith's lament Post by: Lucirina Telor Vevan on 26 June 2002, 14:02:00 In the darkness of his smithy
You can see a flickering light. Between the dust and coal he is sitting, This man of fire and might. His face is dark with coal dust, But on his cheeks you see Two rivers made of moonlight, Rivers flowing endlessly. For a year has past, A whole year has gone Still his heart and soul won’t heal. Since a single kiss from a elven girl Entered in his heart of steel. His hammer and his anvil Has been silent in this year. Never born were from the fire Any armor, any spear. He has tried hard to forget her, He has tried with all his might. Yet it was like asking a flower To forget the sun and light. For ten years has passed, Ten whole years has gone Still his rest he cannot find. He has lost his heart to a elven maid And he soon will lose his mind. In the darkness of his smithy He decides to end his strife. His beloved, called by Queprur, Has now left her earthly life. By the time of the next sunrise, He is laying by the door, His face is calm and peaceful Not a tear he will cry more. For he’s gone with her, He has found her now. In the warmth of Avŕ’s smile. Now their hearts will stay in eternal bliss. In the dream that has no end. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- this is a tiny song that I composed and wrote words to... wish I could play guitar so I could give you the accords. Title: Re: The blacksmith's lament Post by: Bard Judith on 28 June 2002, 19:27:00 Lost love indeed seems to be a popular topic for our minstrels, so we should be able to find a spot for this composition with little trouble....
Interracial love is also a common fantasy motif, which brings its own poignant issues along with it. Although, I must say, I've never heard of a human male wasting away for love of a little bearded dwarven maid.... sigh..... Anyhow, it makes a clear picture in my head. If Quellion or Faugar or one of our other talented colourmasters were to find his way in here, it would make a great illustration.... Regards from the Bard Title: Re: The blacksmith's lament Post by: Viresse on 29 June 2002, 00:01:00 She's elven, My bard. Second Stanza, I believe.

The girl was Elven my dearest colleague bard. Nunquam credere hospes orc cum donum. Title: Re: The blacksmith's lament Post by: Rayne (Alýr) on 29 June 2002, 01:52:00 Aww.. That's almost as depressing as some of the things I write that I won't post for fear you'll all think I'm completely insane... as opposed to just partially insane. o.o; It's a really beautiful song, though.
You should learn the guitar! It's really easy to learn. Once you get used to the strings digging into the flesh of your fingers, it's not so bad. ^_^ You might always try singing it, recording it on a CD, and then posting that. Wren's very talented in music. Maybe if she heard it she could help you write music for it. Title: Re: The blacksmith's lament Post by: Bard Judith on 29 June 2002, 06:08:00 Er...... yes, dears, I know. I did read the poem, honest!
My point was, interracial romance almost ALWAYS involves a human and an elf -- in fact I could bore you with a list of books, songs, and poems that depict such a love, from the great Tolkien to the much-decried D&D authors, but my library is currently in transit from Korea to Canada -- BUT I have NEVER read of a human/dwarven love, or a hopeless passion between an elf girl and an orc hunk, or a secret relationship between a troll hero (there's a toughie!) and a brownie maiden.... oh well..... The closest I can come is the Little Mermaid and her human prince, or Shrek the ogre and his passion for the princess Fiona. But of course in both cases the situation is resolved by a magical transformation rather than by a sucessful cross-species cultural adaption! My comment was meant to be a humorous aside, rather than a sneer at the poem, or a misinterpretation of its topic. Hopefully no offense was taken. Title: Re: The blacksmith's lament Post by: Lucirina Telor Vevan on 29 June 2002, 08:36:00 It seems that i have erred.
I failed to mention one tiny detail. The blacksmith is a dwarf. Title: Re: The blacksmith's lament Post by: Rayne (Alýr) on 29 June 2002, 09:19:00 Under the sea (do do do do) Under the sea (do do do do) Nobody beat us, fry us and eat us in fricassee (do do do do) We what the land folks loves to cook. Under the sea we off the hook. We got no troubles. Life is the bubbles. Under the sea! ::dances around all lobster to like.::
::stops:: Please don't hurt me. o.o;; Title: Re: The blacksmith's lament Post by: Bard Judith on 29 June 2002, 20:19:00 (puts her head in her hands and sighs deeply) Why me? Why ME? Why did our dear Sage (may his beard grow ever longer) choose ME to moderate this forum?
Coz HE didn't want to have to put up with dancing lobsters and kareoke calypso, that's why! (wipes her eyes and smiles weakly) Nice poem. Nice minstrel. Nice calypso song. We put up poem soon, ok? Me go lie down now. Your voice and your interpretations are wonderful, Wren! Only the quality of the audio recording is always a bit of a problem (volume and background noises) - but the rest: Great!
Title: Re: singy songy Post by: Wren on 30 June 2002, 14:13:00 Geuee....I really missed that last note. I feel an eventual rerecord coming on!
Well I guess I could hire one....my lil sis knows about stuff like that, she's the really talented one... I'll see how much money it would cost.
Title: Re: singy songy Post by: Lucirina Telor Vevan on 30 June 2002, 14:29:00 *faints, wakes up crawls to her knees*
I am not worthy of being in your precense!!! You are fabulouse... I could not have sung it better...and even if you didn't know the notes you were pretty close to my own melody. *Gives Wren a standing ovation* Nunquam credere hospes orc cum donum. Title: Re: singy songy Post by: Bard Judith on 01 July 2002, 02:53:00 Waaaaah! Me can't hear the singy songy thingy!
(looks back up and realizes that she has become infected with the Q-T-Speaky virus - probably from holding hands with Viresse while dancing around to a calypso rhythm...) Er, ahem. Mademoiselle Wren, if you would kindly provide a working link, I would take it as a great kindness, as I sincerely desire to appreciate your melodious renditions as soon as time may favour me. (clears throat again and stalks off...) Title: Re: singy songy Post by: Rayne (Alýr) on 01 July 2002, 04:30:00 ::has the same problem as Ms. Judith.:: ~_~, ::sniffles::
Title: I don't know how Post by: Wren on 01 July 2002, 04:52:00 It works for me....
*Whimpers* Arti make the link work.... Title: Re: I don't know how Post by: Rayne (Alýr) on 01 July 2002, 04:56:00 If you have a webpage, you should be able to upload it to your website. It might be a more direct way to get to the mp3. You might try it and see if it works. I'm pretty sure you have a website of geocities if you directed up there. I'm guessing you have it in a portfolio of some sort. Anyways, just upload it as though you were going to put it on a website and let's see what that does.
o.o; I'm not really as smart as I sound, though. I mean, you shouldn't take the word of someone who currently has five empty frappaccino bottles sitting on her desk. @.@; ...Ripples in the Dream Pool... Title: Re: I don't know how Post by: Artimidor Federkiel on 02 July 2002, 14:02:00 *hehe* Well, I'm not an expert, but I guess an audio studio would cost quite a lot, even a few minutes I assume. But you say the musically talented one is your sister, Wren? ´Did I get this right? More talented than you? Hard to believe
