16  Santharian World Development / The Santharian Bestiary / Re: We have wool... We have silk... cotton? on: 02 March 2002, 13:02:00
hmm.. since Nyblemar [sp?] is relatively unfleshed, would it be reasonable to assume that possibly that continent produces [some of] our silk [or equivalent]? While we don’t exactly have the details down, we can/will always add that later. This way Drogo’s island [where exactly ARE these islands? Looked on the map and it seemed that there was no possible way for those two seas to meet… anyways back to topic] this way Drogo’s island chain can also produce silk. That will give us a supply that hopefully will be enough…

hmm.. i guess i just assumed that we would have silk [or an equivalent thereof]. if we don't then i guess santharia will also need an expensive cloth for "noblilty" uses.
the Yuatu’way of the sor'inyt could be used for this but i would have to up both their produce level and the population of the plant. :shrugs:

:lol  all this talk about production and resources is getting my brain onto trade, trade routes, trading policies, etc etc... :D  i'm half tempted to compile a list of products and their corresponding imports/exports. :lol

linen would be good-
its made from what? - flax?
do we have many marshes? or other watery areas good for growing flax? or is flax something else??

well... title says it all. we have most common animals and plants. cows, chickens, goats, an assortment on veggies [which i kiss your feet for that bard! :)  ]
in doing some clothing research- i found i needed a softer cloth that is not as course as wool- but not as expensive as silk. is it safe to assume that we also grow cotton? if not- could anyone give me a natural cloth that would suit my needs?

prob should add that the cloth should [ideally] be somewhat cheep. not as that the peasant class would afford it- but possibly the merchant class?

20  Santharian World Development / The Santharian Bestiary / Cows, sheep, chickens, and goats? on: 31 January 2002, 14:14:00
Just a small question really- i doing some research for a tribe- i found myself wondering if we have cows/bulls, sheep, chickens/roosters, and goats in santharia. Is there an equivalent thereof- or is it assumed they exsist? Or is there another source of their by products [or equivalent]?

Ah! GREAT!!!!
Oh you’re so wonderful! I could kiss you! [sorry but I don’t go that way ;)  [] anyway- back to my point, love your little fixes- they sound so much better then my original thoughts. :)
I like the change to disinfectant lotion from potion! It sounds less...[struggling for word] “watery”. A salve works MUCH better. :sigh: wish I had thought of that in the first place...

If you don’t mind- I think I will use most [if not ALL] of your “corrections”. And yes, you can expect different entries for the plants...  - :o  just haven’t found the time to work on my other baby plant. :)  I plan on having it out around the middle of next week.

Totit:
Coming almost to the knee of most adult humans, standing about one half ped in height, Totit has been used by the tribes of east Aerullin for generations for both a food source and a medication. Despite its generous numbers, the tribes have not been able to domesticate the plant or grow it in easily harvestable fields.

Description:
A rough and enduring plant, the Totit is one of the few plants that survive in the harsh eastern Aerullin deserts. Its strength of endurance is mirrored in the thickness of the heavy brown stalk of the plant. Numerous small almond-shaped green leaves cover the plant, giving the surrounding pale sands a shading of green life. A large pink or orange blossom blooms twice a year, sending the microscopic seeds everywhere on the harsh desert winds.

Height: 0.5 peds
Growth rate: matures twice a year- fully grown in two seasons [half -year]
Fertilization: tiny seedpods are released twice a year. Plants have both male and female attributes, but genetics do not allow the plant to fertilize itself.
Blossom: pink or orange depending on the region of the plant. Orange usually grows in the northern deserts while pink is mostly found in the south. The flower is also used to create a disinfectant lotion when dried and mixed with oil.

**TERRITORY**
Totit grows in eastern Aeullin, thriving in the hot dry climate.

**USAGES**
IT is used in a variety of ways by several desert tribes:
The stem is dried in the sun and then ground into a fine powder. The powder is then blended with spiced water and cooked, resulting in flat bread.
The leaves are dried and crushed. When mixed with hot water, totit-leaf creates a colorfast green dye for cloth.
The blossom is dried and ground into fine powder. When combined with oil, it creates a potent disinfectant lotion.
Only the nomadic Sor’inyt tribe uses the root. It is soaked, pounded and spun into a fine fiber, then woven into a soft expensive cloth the Sor’inyt call Yuatu’way.

Good piont Judy. Though, truthfully, I can see it both ways. In the larger view, having a series of maps done in the same style is very nice and uniform; but gamers will always prefer full color.

BTW: map is coming along nicely- not nearly ready yet, but I'm getting there. :)

Since I've rejoined the RPing world, I've taken a lot of interest in the city-games. All have maps, but only one has the proper Santharian map (Koldar's work, if I remember correctly.)

Question is three-fold:

1) Are there plans to make other city maps?

2) If so, who is doing what? If not, can I take a crack at one (or two)?

3) Any ideas what software was used on the original city map? (using Nyermersys as a prototype)
