61  Organization and General Discussions / General Santharian Discussions / Re: I have a question about Brownies! on: 19 July 2007, 03:42:46
Brownies would use smaller blowpipes then a human would which would make it so they wouldn't have to blow as hard to get the same distance.

Brownies would have few other ways to defend themselves against larger animals so a brownie that can use a blowpipe well their family is more likely to survive an attack.

A brownie that can shoot with more force could shoot down larger prey a brownie that killed a bear would have women swooning over him  grin

I don't think that seems unreasonable fukiya competitions targets are at about 32ft 9 in away.Browny  physiology could be such that they have a greater range. Stronger exhaling muscles for example so they can blow harder. I would consider that normal range some can shoot farther if they are more athletic others are incapable of shooting that far. I would say the absolute max range would be about 7 1/2 miles since that is what you would get at the speed of sound however such a long range would only be achievable by using wind magic. Of course you might want to restrict that farther as being to God like. Say it requires a high level wind mage to make darts go that fast.  grin

These are good I find it rather inspiring I've been working on a pic I would of liked to submit but art work takes a while for me. Nice to see pics from people a lot better then me it inspires me to improve.

I suppose you're right and it would only take one person gutsy enough to try and steal something guard ed by these snakes to find out they were the non poisonous variety.

What about using the nonpoisonous snakes in theater in place of poisonous snakes they would essential be props like wooden swords :)

I've given shi a few suggestions on how he could make a long bow that would be fairly easily concealed. It wouldn't be a common weapon but one they would prefer for extra long range combat or when facing some over armored opponent.

Miraran if the non poisonous variety were guarding something it would still be a deterrent ot someone snooping around because they wouldn't want to take the chance they are poisonous.

I have comments on a couple things

The Poisonous Rainbow Snake has a venom that is deadly to all races and species.

We should avoid the use of superlatives this statement would disallow future development of venom resistant animals we shouldn't do that

Usages: The Non-Poisonous Rainbow Snake has no uses.

What about people using them to guard their property most people seeing these snakes wouldn't risk the possibility they might be poisonous.

DIET    The Dhururian snail is voracious in its appetite.  It will eat almost anything edible that it comes across.

I have a problem with the use of the word edible what is considered edible by different animals could very greatly especially in a fantasy world where we aren't limited to animals that eat organic matter, we could create rock eaters for example if we wanted to.
70  Organization and General Discussions / General Santharian Discussions / Re: Vulcanism on Caelereth on: 21 June 2007, 02:49:15
While their are times it would be nice to figure out the mechanism so we know whats going on it is definitely not essential here especially since on earth everything bellow the crust is theory anyways  buck

2 main difference I would see on  Caelereth

Minerals that wouldn't occur on earth. All kinds of weird looking crystals.

Different life forms you could have lava monsters or fish that swim in boiling water  :)

azn Curious is this a mid oceanic hot spot like Hawaii or a continental like Yellowstone ?
71  Organization and General Discussions / General Santharian Discussions / Re: Vulcanism on Caelereth on: 19 June 2007, 02:57:54
cool The most noticeable effect of a spinning disc would be the behavior of pendulums we could have pendulum clocks

grin 12 hour trans-Caelereth flights would take you back where you started.

veryconfused I thought the motion of stars on Caelereth was very complicated not random more moving things we have more complicated that motion is    grin

As far as geothermal gradient if we adapted one like on earth it would work well. As you go down it gets cooler till you get to a point that geothermal energy is equal to solar energy then it starts getting warmer. In most places this would be pretty deep. Take Carlsbad caverns in New
Mexico for example when you go down you are still well above where it starts to get warmer. of course we can make it shallow when we want to too like a geological hot spot.  :)

72  Organization and General Discussions / General Santharian Discussions / Re: Vulcanism on Caelereth on: 18 June 2007, 02:48:39
What about making the disc spin so we will have are internal geological forces .  azn The sun would rotate perpendicular to the disc at the same rate. This would make our cosmology a interesting you could have some constellations which appear only certain times of the year or move to different spots. Which I think we have now. Anapagans might take advantage of the spinning to build some devices. Their would be a small group probably thought of as nut cases crazy by many that believe in "spinning disc theory"  :)
73  Organization and General Discussions / General Santharian Discussions / Re: Vulcanism on Caelereth on: 15 June 2007, 13:29:07
A structure similar to earth should work well for subteranian Caelereth just take earth and lay all the layers flat. How the magnetic field is created would need to be figured since we aren't on a spinning planet. For the most part Caelerethian petrology is the same as earth petrology :)

Theres a few things that could use some clearing up about its mating. veryconfused
How often do they mate?
does the tissue grow back after the beetle eats it?
If females only mate once and males multiple times females will have to outnumber males by a factor of however many times the males mate.
