Wow, no wonder Europeans education is better than most in the U.S.  My hubby went to school in Sicily and alot of the classes he had there far surpased the technical college he attended here to get his accounting degree.

Okay now I went to Pre-school, which was when I was 3, and then I started kindergarden when I was 4.  I graduated high school, which you have to have a diploma or GED (which is like a dimploma for people who usually dropped out of school, but took a test that said they had aquired the same amount of knowledge and so were on the same level as a high school graduate) in order to get into college.

Most people graduate from high school between the ages of 17 and 19.

Now when I was in high school we had I attended six classes for one half of the year and then six different classes the second part of the year.  School started at 8:00 a.m. and lasted until 3:00 p.m. giving and hour for each class and an hour for lunch.  Then when I moved to a different state I had four classes that I attended for the first half of the year and then four different classes for the second part of the year.  All in all it is very confusing if you do not quite understand the system.

As far as my age is concerned, I turned 25 in September and have a 20 month old daughter, and have been married *has to stop and thnk for it seems like eternity sometimes* February will be six years.  Geez seems longer.

I didn't even think about the properties of ginsing!  lol, this plant will be in high demand when it is done.

Okay, let me do some reasearch on the actual mandrake root first and then put a Santharian twist to it.  Will have something resembling an outline hopefully soon.
19  Organization and General Discussions / Non-Santharian Stuff: Life, the Universe & Everything / Re: Population Drop on: 19 August 2006, 08:40:55
There has been a drop in activity in some ofthe RP boards, but then again as most of the admis will say Santharia is not about RPing.  But that is what attracts alot of people at first and then as they stay around longer they want to contribute more.  So maybe the Mods are not seeing a drop in activity on the Dev boards, but else where people are noticing.

Makes sense.  Just was aking is all and believe it or not I did actually read the entire thread before commenting.  Sorry for making you re-type the same thing Mina.

Instead of making a new thread to congest our herbarium I guess I will post here.  Umm, do we have a mandrake type of plant?  Something that could be used almost as a base for all us magic users?  Just checking.

I think that the upper levels should definately be restricted so they can not be accessed by just anyone.  Since these are powerful magi, why can they not levitate themselves to the level they wish.  If you use horses, trolls, etc., where will these creatures sleep (they will have to eventually) and how will you have gotten them at their positions?  You aren't just going to go out buy a slave troll and easily bring him back into the tower without any problems.  History shows that nothing and no one likes to be a slave and usually that which has been enslaved seeks a way to set itself free.  Does Santharia really approve the use of slaves?
23  Santharian World Development / Magic in the Lands of Caelereth / Re: just babbling, and sharing some idea's to inspire the de on: 18 February 2006, 17:50:00
I was just saying that in order to have a good range of offensive spells you pretty much have to go element to element.  Like cross-training a magic user which isn't really allowed because it takes so much time to get up to a pretty good level that to be trained in two or three different elements so you have more range with offensive spells.  Take my character, who is a wind mage.  And then look at Kain who is also a wind mage only a level higher.  Kain does pretty well at striking fear and using offensive magic.  But there are only 5 truelly offensive spells out of about 20.  There are another handful of others that can be used to confuse, or distract an enemy.

I know magic is neither good or evil, but neutral.  That goes for RP and RL.  Magic has always depended on the user and the way said user manipulates and channels it.  But shouldn't the bad guys at least have one or two spells that are truelly evil?  To help them stand out from the border line ppl?  A spell that only a dark soul could cast?  I was just throwing out an idea that was all.  No harm in that.  There are spells out there but they can not be played because the level it would take a person to be in order to play it is banned.

And I am now more confused about linking magic than I was before. :broadgrin   I got the Sphere 1, 2, and 3 thing down tho.  Thanks.

Okay now I have a question and some suggestions.  There is really no magic system set up for bad guys.  Most of the magic is defensive and not offensive.  Or is used to hide or protect.  There are very few in the same element that can be used to hurt others, which bad guys would want to do. :devilish   Am I missing something?  Also could someone please explain to me how Xeuá  magic works?  It is confusing to me and as a mage I think I should kinda know about it. lol

You know I tried to use the Conjure Wind Spell to do this very spell!!  I love it that someone else came up with it and after many months of hard work by everyone it is finally ready.  I am a level 5 wind mage so I guess I will have to go back, once I get permission and the spell is listed under Wind Magic, and put it into my CD or maybe I will have picked it up from someone else.  Depends on what the mods say.  Thanks tho everyone for all the patience.  Btw, my hubby is hispanic and he makes alot of the same gramatical errors as you.  Never fear tho, we all are here to help in one way or another.

:pet   Good glad I could help and didn't overstep any boundries.  Maybe mention that the possession of ppl part is too far fetched to ever be true.  So that the mods and admins know that it is not a real power but just helps the myth part along.

Please Dagon correct me at any time if I do not phrase something correctly.

We want this orb to be mythical, but the stories to seem real enough to send us on a wild goose chase or in this case Orb of Sight chase.  Shouldn't there be some level of contradition in order to make the readers (and hearers of the story) doubt whether the Orb is truelly real or really mythical.  We can keep repeating over and over that the Orb is mythical, but then it will eventually lose interest and not be pursued because it has been found that nothing of the like exists so what is the use.  Did anyone understand that?  I hope I phrased it okay to get my point of view across.

Okay, anyone read Magic Kingdom for Sale, Sold!  By Terry Brooks?  If not then let me explain alittle part in the book and you will just have to run with it or read the book yourself.  Inside the castle in a room there is something called "Landsview".  Landsview allows the King to view the entire kingdom without ever leaving the room.  Activated by the King grasping onto the silver railing and concentrating on a particular point on a map of his Kingdom.  While being "transported" to the location wanted, the castle where the room is located and even the room itself all disappears.  "He was flying through space with only the silver railing and lectern wrapped about him for support.  His eyes widened in shock, and he stared downward.  Below, the vally sped away in a void of shadows and moonlight."    That is a direct quote from the book giving you an idea of how it was explained that the character was transported to this other place other than where he physically was located.  Page 90-95 of the above mentioned titled book outlines and details how Landsview works.

Now I know that this site is devoted mostly to Tolkien's style, but I read somewhere that there were other authors' influence as well such as Terry Brooks who was mentioned.  I mention the Landsview because this Orb of Sight has similar capabilities only more expanded.

Second thing:  What the Orb does etc.
Okay scenario; say there is a huge forest fire due to some human or orc even setting things on fire.  The fire has spread too much to be contained by conventional methods such as bringing water from a nearby lake or stream and dousing it.  And there are not enough local elemental magi to help put out the water.

Solution:  The powerful magi guarding this Orb of Sight would collectively use the Orb to "transport" themselves to the buring forest and would be able to work their magic to help put out the fire.  Now the Magi would never have left their physical position like with the Landsview.  No one saw the magi because the Magi can not be seen.  The Magi can not physically smack someone upside the head say for instance a small child tormenting a poor puppy, but they can use their magic.  Why this is the case can not be explained because if it could then it would not be mythical, right?  Everyone following me so far?  I hope so.

Helpful task could include watering farmers' fields during drought season so everyone will not die of starvation during the winter season.  I know all the examples have been using water, but you see the way it could be used.

Bad or Evil scenario:

Why the Orb was quickly taken out of use is because the Magi being the intelligent ppl they are realized if they could work magic in other parts of the continent to help ppl then someone could work magic on other parts of the continent to hurt them.  Setting fires, summoning demons to wreak havoc, (umm give me some other spells that could be used to harm ppl or destroy things).  Now why would someone evil want to destroy stuff?  I think that is self explanatory.  And since there is only one Orb and if it is in the possession of someone evil and that someone evil cannot be seen while using the Orb how would the good guys know where the evil person was so they could get back the Orb.  See the dangerous threat now?  Not good to have the bad guys have powerful seeing balls that they can rain destruction down anytime and anyplace.

Okay, now as far as possessing ppl and taking control of their bodies....I do not know.  *Looks to Dagon and nudges him forward*  Uh you will have to take that one on.

And last of all, I will agree with Marvin it is probably best to stay away from Ximaxian explanations.  I for one do not really understand them and am not alone in that one.  There are only a rare few on here that truelly do get it and it is usually because they helped create the magic system or worked with it in some way.

Again I hoped I helped and if not then I am sorry.  I can't wait to read the posts I will get from this one.  Should be interesting.  I am glad I like to debate, lol. :nod    Just trying to help get the point of view across.

I believe we still will need an expert in the magic field to look it over after Talia has tweaked it enough.  Just to make sure everything is on the up and up on the magic side.  I must say Dagon, you really have done a great job on this!!  I knew you were a good writer, but this is well above what I expected:nod .  Love the way you expanded with it too.  I am thankful you are writing this rather than me.  I had a hard enough time just getting my CD approved! :b
