This awesome pic is how I imagined the Cartashian woods (whenever I get around to developing the entry and that cute creature too). Note the misty background? Not a coincidence.
I'd like this pic for the Themed'lon, but unsure what to do with the figures in the corner. Can the Kaaer suddenly develop tails?
Unfortunately, my time is not what it used to be back when I was devving the Mists. Life changes and I've had alot of ups and downs over the last few years.
As long as contributions are still being made, no matter how slow, the Dream will always thrive.
And its good for you Arti to get some other stuff done in the meantime.
Simply a note in the overview that explains this particular entry in the Compendium details necropsy practices in the Santharian kingdom. Elsewhere, such as the North or Nybelmar, are not yet detailed.
There is not much documented on Northern tribe's necropsy practices. So your entry should really only reflect SOUTH practices in the Santharian kingdom. The North is an entirely different beast and can be added to this entry at a later date once more research is done.
This would be a very interesting topic to explore from the Northern point of view. How would the Kuglimz, Ice Tribes or Kaaer perform a necropsy (if at all?)
I wish Alysse or Alt could offer some insight. It would make a good addition to this entry.
I've not thought how the Osther-Oc or Kaaer would view it. Likely the Kaaer would have a ritual requiring the dark to'ava to oversee any manipulation of the dead. They believe that the dead's spirit passes into the hunting grounds of Durgho. Specific causes of death are likely explained as weak faith or Durgho's dissatisfaction with them. A dead person is believed to be able to hunt in the afterlife and their corpse should be as intact as possible. Any defilement of the dead may render the spirit unable to leave the body, or unable to recognize it should the spirit be called back.
I can tell you that in the North, I work with the opinion that tribes keep their own lore about things and know little of South lore. So any kind of lore about malefic grip or witches or demon lords are unknown to the Kuglimz, Remusians or Osther-Oc. Such maladies and curses and creatures have their own Northern specific origins.
That is why I feel that entries based in either region take into account the disparities between North and South.
Elves of the North tend to travel many places. The Injerin are a well traveled tribe and I use them to spread information. The main researcher for Caaehl'heroth is an Injerin ranger. unlike most elven tribes who stay within the confines of their forest, Injerin are spread out moreso than others.
I would think people from the South pass to the North far more often because they are wealthier and can afford to. Except Aden and Erpheronia since they are essentially connected by well traveled sea lanes. Not sure how the travel exists to Kanapan, probably alot.
Nice, thanks for the info, Shaba. I'll leave the glacial and underwater volcanoes for Altario. I just want a great big fiery hell on earth volcano like Mount Doom up in Caaehl'heroth somewhere!
How much of Sarvonian lore is common knowledge to the rabble peasants?
Would a farmer in Erpheronia have knowledge of Mystrans and how they work?
Would a merchant in Rahaz-Dath know about high demon lords (by name?)
Certain educated classes would have knowledge such as clerics, Ximaxian scholars etc, but when explaining a malady, would a midwife in Carmalad be able to recall a well known story about Coor and his machinations in the North?
What is generally acceptable, or is it something to consider on a case by case basis?
As a Compendiumist, you would have access to specific names and records, so Kelancey can make assumptions. But a common farmer in Erpheronia or merchant in the Rahaz-Dath wouldn't know the name Khalkoroth or a Mystran. However, ask a Ximaxian or Nehtorian cleric and they would!
UNLESS lore of such creatures is made to become common knowledge, but I am not sure of that. That is a question for devvers to discuss.
Are there any active volcanoes in North Sarvonia other than the Celeste Mountains? If not, that is surprising, given the wild, uncivilized territory of the North. I am considering placing a volcano in Caaehl'heroth - Mount Osthen or Mount Aesh. One could develop much history and lore around a volcano, especially from the orcs and the relative proximity to the Deep Winds tower.
I saw this and, of course, I thought of the story of Saban Blackcloak and his fight against the earth titan in the Heckra volcano. What a glorious show that would be!
And second, I thought of the other famous volcano in Santharia: Norong'Sorno.
