1  Santharian World Development / Santharian Artists Workshop and Resources / Winter's Flame candle on: 21 October 2018, 00:27:51
Here is some inspiration.

The Winter's Flame candle.  The process to make such a candle is shrouded in mystery and can only be found in the rarest of spell books.  However it is common knowledge that once lit, the Winter's Flame candle plunges the land round about into a deep cold winter.  The reach of this magic-induced winter is dependent on the size of the candle.  If the candle is left to burn to its end, the melted ice from the candle is a potent spring water that gives life to the plants it feeds.  Trees that are fed from this water source often retain magical properties themselves.  If the water is drunk it can serve to promote fertility, often resulting in twins, triplets or even more children. Children born to the Winter's Flame water tend to be endowed with mystical abilities.

So here is a Gollum I drew.  A bit of fan art for the Fablehaven series.  The character's name is Hugo from the books.  Feel free to use it in Santharia if you like.

Just an update.  While I have not been very active lately, I am once again working on the High Fores Picture.  I am hoping to have time this week in order to have a draft to post early next week or earlier.

Nice moss entry Felsid.  I don't have any suggestions or criticisms, Today I am just here to enjoy the new entries and find some inspiration.  Well done.

Well hello Drucilla. :D  Wow it must be quite some time since you have been here.  I love your drawings.   I come across your  wison, rainbow serpent and the fuzzle mouse quite often.  My favorite of those three is the cute mouse.  Nice to finally meet the artist behind the canvas. I hope you stop by more often.
9  Santharian World Development / Santharian Artists Workshop and Resources / Party Time- Gift for Val- Death Dance Butterfly Pic on: 20 February 2016, 12:19:15
"Congratulations Val"...Seeker yelled as he bursts into the great hall carrying a large package.  But all he heard in return was an echo.  Where was everyone?

Was he mistaken? Was not the party going to take place here.  The hall was large and ornate, a perfect place for a gathering, but alas it was barren... void of food and music and the usual festivities.   It had been two months since Val O'Neil's acceptance into the ranks of Santharian membership and he was sure everyone would be here to celebrate.

Seeker, carefully opened the package he carried and leaned the large canvas against the wall across from him.  He stared at it for a while.  "I hope she likes her gift" he mumbled to himself.  "It is so hard to get these things perfect" .

Feeling as if he could be waiting a while Seeker sat down. .  He then began waving his hands in the air, muttered some incoherent incantation and poof, he conjured up three fireballs and practiced his juggling, hoping someone would arrive soon.

Comments on picture welcome by all, but be sure to join the party first :)

That was a fun read Felsid.  I took the map and followed along as you described the High fores.  While i understand you have to go through the motions of describing what can be seen on the map I particularly enjoyed the parts where myth and lore and stories were inserted into the description.  I also like your writing style.  Clear sentences and very few spelling errors (you must be English speaking native).

A few questions and suggestions.  Feel free to push back on anything if I misunderstood:

Are you still planning on inserted a critter that lives exclusively in the fores?  Maybe a new Bear.   At the least you could reference some more of our beasts from the Deer section or the Herin (cat) that may be found on occasion from the nearby Goltherin Forest. Doing some research and I see Gryphons, Skyter Dracoid, Rast Wargs (rare) can all be found among the High fores. But I would suspect all three are very rare sightings.

"Beneath the shadow of Mount Maehros is the tenebrous stone corridor known as the Ashen Passage, which cuts deep into through the High Fores through to its eastern side, opening onto the southern Ashfields of Heckra."

I wanted to hear more about Doriath and Menerum.  I could see them getting their own entries someday. Maybe you could dream up a couple more sentences to give us a taste of what it is like under those mountains.

Kor Mukkot- Does it get used by passerbys or by any wild beasts?

The Great Borehole caverns which connect the Higher and Lower Fores-  So are these caverns used by the dwarves?  Are they natural or dwarven made?   It seems they would be connecting to the High Fores in an uninhabited part of the southern mountain chain.  What do you think?

Seems you have forgotten about poor Mt. Barbarol.  Or did i miss it?

"Most settlements on the slopes of the mountains hold a variety of goats and pigs too, and horses aren't rare either too."
Just trying to avoid using "too" twice.

"Their occupation of Mount Doriath has long been a tale of horror to the Thrumgolz and they are sometimes used as a way of getting unruly children to go to bed."

I am curious, How long has it been since the last credible Sephet-Demon sighting, or evidence that they are/were there?

"Thus enters Rofan, a man of towering size and strength. Rofan bellows to the skies, that every peak beneath the sun from here to Mount Minhos had been reduced to a notch upon his belt, and he wasn't didn't slowing down now."

Mr. Greytunnel

First off, pleased to meet you.  I dont believe we have heretofore been acquainted.  I see you have been putting in quite a bit of work in the Vardynn Province research.  Excellent.

At some point soon I will read through the entry and provide my 2 cents.

In the meantime I wanted to let you now my intention to dream up a picture to go along with one of your entries.  However a couple questions first.  This is my way of encouraging/thanking those that are active on the site.

1) Have you already picked out a drawing from another artist?
2) Do you mind if I draw a picture for your entry?
3)Would you prefer a picture for the Low or High Fores?

In the meantime Im working on a picture for Val Oneil to congratulate her on becoming an official member!

Oh that is really cool.  Iv'e been listening to a few of them today and i find it very gratifying to see that someone is enjoying our work.  I particularly laugh when she gives her funny commentary on the story as she goes.  It is fun to hear someones reaction as they are playing the game.  thumbup

Thanks for finding this Art.

Aha great Arti.  clap2 clap2 clap2  Thanks for playing through. Aura +1 for being the first one.

Ill get in there and fix those typos.  My 10 yr old daughter was my editor so I will tell her she missed a few.  ;)

So a couple of things.  Yes the Book of Knowledge is supposed to return you to the beginning.  The idea I was trying to convey is that by sending you to the beginning you have gained a sort of knowledge (because you have some experience) in an unexpected way.

I like your other suggestions, I can easily work those in.

Yes it was a shame that Jonael never finished the zoo animations he was working on.  If you find a use for the picture feel free to use it.

Hey guys.  Glad to see so many folks seemingly interested in working again on Santharia.  Did any of this gain any traction?  Will there be a group project?

I'd be interested in doing a picture or two when the time is right.
