"Brownies: Seeing what humans could do, they took the elements the humans had and expanded on them, creating the Seven School of Magic."

The Seven schools can and will be changed if there is a major shift in how we view magic....to Brownieness they are not as important as lifemagic....(see compendium entry) Lifemagic would be the Brownie race specialty rather than the seven schools, which is just a university, after all.

Just trying to make more general outlines, Tarquet (and try to save as much of my ideas as possible!!;) ).

The reason I think this thread is neccessary is mainly because I think there are lots of different ideas including myself how magic works which I think might end up very, very confusing!

Think it's good to discuss about it and generally don't object your ideas. But I fear this is a nitpicking topic! :)
Dividing them further?

What might still miss is a good, 'coherent' connection of everything from a cosmological point of view. But it's slowly merging.

I agree and obey Artimidor's opinion about elementar magic. I might have tried to be too limiting there.
I also don't think that anything has to be changed about Brownie magice, Greybark. The only thing might be to check that their powers are not too big. (it sounds big because of the name). As Life magic is their primarily magic, I think there doesn't is any need to change anything.

I also want to fit a general outline into what is already done before too much is done and we have to shoot it out. ;)

Alright, been thinking here too. Working up a big post which can be (hopefully with little changing) used as a general entry for magic. I'll stick with Art's explanation of elemental magic, check out the Brownie stuff, and do a bit more general research. However, I still stand firm on my view of Necromancers as evil. I'm all for diversity and everything, but I think it's getting a bit ridiculous for there to be a good Necromancer. Here, I'm thinking in terms of good, does what's morally right and such, neutral, just doing what's profitable, at the time or in the future, and evil, very self-centered and without morals. I could see a Necromancer being neutral, and obviously evil, at least primarily. But not good. Firstly because raising dead bodies as slaves and warriors, etc., is generally an evil thing and immoral. The person may have been good to start with, but dealing with a dark art that is created by an evil person, and is in itself evil, will slowly become evil themselves. Etc etc etc, whatever, blah blah. I'll work some more out.

Concerning the Necromancers I just don't think they are neccessarily an own class, that is all. They might be evil Earth mages, ... as well.

It is just that Necromancers seems too stereotype to me. There#s always this strange, evil socrerer who summons the dead to send his legions of terror against inncocent people.

Making them part of a 'neutral' class would legitimate them somehow.
