Level Eleven Fire Spell: Hands of Ma'asherom.

Description: Summons twin giant hands of magma, white-hot iron, and flame to appear up to one fore away from the caster and obey his motions from then on. This spell is one of the most dangerous known to magic, surpassed only by a few Ecua magics in pure destructive potential.

Ingredients: The caster's own hands, a cast for said made of sulfurous ash and obsidian, and enough of the caster's or a willing volunteer's blood to fully immerse the above in.

Magical Formula: Unknown. Those in a position to have heard the words have long since been ground into incinerated ash, or quite unwilling to tell.*

Preparations: First, the caster must take approximately two pounds of sulferous ash and obsidian, and pound them until they become a glittering black and grey dust. Then he must take the dust and pour it into the pool of blood. After a full day in the sun's light, the blood will have all been drawn into the mixture, which should glow a pale red. The mixture is malleable, and can be shaped when exposed to extreme temperatures; the caster must shape the mix into a gauntlet for each hand. The resulting skin-bonding gloves will last as long as sunlight or firelight touches them. Any contact with water will destroy them.
Then, when the final casting is ready, the caster must chant the magical formula for nearly two hours. At the end, he must focus all the energies he has brought to the gloves, which will blaze strongly enough to consume the hands they contain. Then, the resulting powers must be strongly focused on one distinct point in space...

Result: Two hands attached to nothing physically, and to the originals magically. They are roughly three peds by three peds by one ped at the palm, with up to four-ped-long fingers, claws of white-hot steel, hide of magma, and beneath that raw fire magic. Manipulable as normal hands, with the added ability to move their focal point (I.E. magical wrists) with will alone, without physical limitations.

Duration: The hands will last as long as the caster's magical energies do; the caster can banish the hands at any time they wish, but should do so before collapsing into a wizard's deathsleep. Ranges from five minutes to a full hour.

Counterspells: None. Theoretically, dropping a body of water the size of the Xaramon Peninsula would extinguish the hands, but anything less would simply be sublimated. The fire of the hands cannot be smothered, and burns the air itself.

Enhancing measures: The wizard who thinks this spell  needs enhancement should immediately report to the Violet Tower for diagnosis of his condition.

*That, and we aren't giving away the keys to our Staffs so easily.

Well, is it a good spell?

Pretty good spell.........

Hmm... surely the formula would be known by magi who use the spell, would it not? Even if the formula were to be listed, it's not like there are so many people able to actually wield the spell. Level 11 magi are pretty much only the Ximaxian archmages, correct? Then why would anyone of a lower level care about knowing the formula if they cannot cast it? And about being unwilling to reveal it.... hmm.... well... if it is not revealed, then how would they have gotten to know it?

In short.. thinking that a formula should be listed, not as unknown. It's the same thing as at the RP forum... just cause your character doesn't know something, doesn't mean you can't list it. Though this is information in the compendium, yes, I'm not sure why the magi would be unwilling to reveal it if so few can use it. *shrugs* Oh well....

And... Tarq said no more spells to the spell class and spheres revisions were settled... so..... yeah..........

The problem is fizzling. The level's aren't set in stone, and as such, some level 10ers might try to cast the spell... you seen the definition for a catastrophic fizzle yet?
You summon all the powers you wanted to... but they are uncontrolled.
Naturally, the Archmagi don't want these things rampaging around.
That, and the formula is mostly in the caster's head. No real one is defined; it's just whatever the caster thinks will help control the obscenely powerful energies that he's summoning.
