I only made the tier system to regulate it. It technically does not need one, but as our leftovers in the fridge have proven; leave something alone long enough and it'll grow out of control.

I don't want to use a system at ALL, it defies the purpose of Clerical magic. But Eventually someone will want to invent one and then make spells... as we have seen.
And I figured if I laid the rules before someone else did, I would turn the system the way I want it to go. As opposed to my work being twisted from my original intention.
I would like to take the Tiers out. But that means I lose control of it.
Can I take that risk?
Can I trust people to behave with this?
I mean-
This is GOD-POWER we're talking about. Leave too much to chance and we WILL have god-chars. Inevitably.
So.
Regulate the magic and we regulate the Player. No messes later on down the road.

Oh.
Wait.
You weren't talking about that.
Talking about derailing a train of thought!
Okay....
I guess what I mean is that he has 25 spells at his HIGHEST level, and 6 at the lowest. Lower than that and he isn't a cleric. Higher than that means that several clerics must be presnet to invoke the Diety's power. He is indeed limited in a sense.
Limited by his Diety.
Which can make for a mess in RP, but a great thing for story-writers...

And yes. I wrote it from a clerical standpoint. Who else to write such a thing?!
But I will include that "Mage" thing. It does need it.

Viresse? God-chars belong on RPG-board. Not here. Here we have development of things, and we sohuld have as few limits as posisble. Limits go on the RPG-board. Please.

Sincerely

*blinks*
Uhm. What?

What are you saying?
It sounds very blunt to me and I am hoping that's not what you're going for.
I mean, I can take out the Tiers. But you might have phrased that a bit more politely.

Viresse, as I told you before, I like it, though I'm not a fan of clerical magic nor am very knowledgeable on it. The only thing I can really say is include that mage thing discussed a few posts ago, and then have Arti take a look at this entry. There's nothin' else that I believe I can comment on... :

Ah.
Okay. It was written by a Cleric- why would one have a Mage write about it? A cleric knows best.
As for the TIER.
I finally understand what Silfer was talking about.
Okay. I get it.
The tiers Can go- I'll do a setup for that at the RP board.
Duh!
Okay.

Was tell about the mage stand-point, in summary, such as, "Contrary to the teachings of the gods, magi have been seen identifying the divine powers as to merely based on a person's single belief in something happening, rather than the blessings of the gods."

You know! Somethin' along those lines. ;)

Why can't Magi believe in the Gods? Its a seperate kind of magic, after all, they don't have to be the same thing. Maybe some Magi might, but why does it have to be one or the other?

Anyway, it may not be worth anything, but I think this is great, Vir.

I was referring to this quote from the "Magic of Caelereth" entry...

Quote:
Scientific research in this field is often seen as contradictory to the principle of belief, on which Clerical Magic is based on.

And then the rest of the two or so paragraphs explaining the scientific, Ximaxian way of their view of clerical magic.

Sure, scientifically, but not all mages are trained at Ximax, and even those that are may keep their faith in the gods if it was instilled in them in their childhood. Though, if you're going to put something like that in there, it would be better to apply it to all non-believers, rather than just mages exclusively, as the Ximaxian standpoint is all ready made in that entry you pointed out. I mean, not all mages have to be non-believers, and not all non-believers have to be mages, so it would be better to just hit everyone who doesn't believe in the divine power, ya know?

Hmmm.

Are the gods in this world puzzles or beings, (or some combination of both?)

By a Puzzle I mean Cleric A has to do X + Y over Z for a miracle to be be performed thus:

X (pray for thing/effect), plus Y (against/tofor) if Z (enough belief is 'given').  This is a 'cold' mythology.  Setient beings are nothing more than batteries for the gods (and perversely) the gods are batteries/storehouses/gift shops for clerics/devotees.

A 'hot mythology' is when the Gods are active beings with distinct personalities, with dislikes and likes.

In this then Cleric A asks his god to do something, and the god decides on a whim.   Asking too much might annoy the god, or it might not.  The god might be a bad mood anyway, or the clerics ancestors may have annoyed the gods, or the god might just dislike the cleric's hair style (these reasons would be unknown, for the most part, by the cleric) and refuse the simplest thing.  Or, as we're talking about personalities (like the greek model), the gods might do anything for the right individual regardless of the request, or indeed the holiness of the individual.

Which is it?  Or aren't we to know (i wouldn't mind)?

Santharian Gods are as real as the God(s) of our world are.
