Hi everyone!  I'm new both to this development program and world as well as the Role Playing game which I will be joining soon.  Now, my question is this:

How does Elven magic work/how do elves work magic?  Would they still be able to use the same spells and go through the same training at the Academy as other races?

Thanks in advance.

Yes, they will go through the same kind of training, though usually it takes elves longer to master the skills of magic. Humans, perhaps due to their shorter lifespans, are usually able to pick things up a lot quicker than elves are, so it takes elves longer to learn magic, or even learn a kind of weapon.

Elves do have the natural ability for Wind Magic, though. Elves view magic and approach magic different than others do. Eles have a great desire to know how things work, and usually apart from just learning a spell (that is, mutter some words and throw reagents around), they like to know why one does as they must to do a spell. They like to know how everything works. While humans cast spells, elves may end up being the most common race to actually make spells.. which makes sense, when you think that Silfer, Dasson, and I all have elven blood. :lol

If you have any more questions, feel free to ask.

Thanks for the insight.  How should I list spells?  Should I just write her level and assume that she can do all spells that are her level or lower, or should I actually list spells I'd like her to know.

BTW, she is a Wind mage.

Yay! A wind mage! My element!

If you pick a level, it is assumed that she knows most of the spells her level and below, but each spell must be learned and practiced if it is to be used effectively. Be wise in yuor choice of a level, though! We don't let people get away with high levels unless they can back it up!

By the way, is the 'page rule' still in effect?

Page rule is no longer in effect, however, from what I see, magi above the 6th level (or 7th?) are banned from newbies. If you've been around for awhile, you can progressively make higher level magi, though Archmagi are only available to those who work with magic on a basis... meaning, Rayne, Silfer, and I. Though none of us have really had the incentive to create one yet, who knows?

Aaanyways... back to the point.

I don't know if this is still in effect, but, elves also cast magic differently than humans. They use it more naturally, whereas humans tend to need something to focus, and draw their powers from (everyone knows a mage is nothing without his staff... unless they're elven. :p ). Elves use their own Car'all to cast magic, while humans will use an outside source.

In simplified terms, humans find it both easier and cost-efficient to take water from someone else's well. Elves on the other hand, have no qualms with taking water from their own wells, of which elves know how to take only exactly what they need anyhow, where humans often take more than they could possibly need.

In other words, again, a human would draw car'all energy from the wand (and often more than they need, greedy bastards) in his hand so as to not expend his own in order to set a tree aflame, whereas an elf would merely use his own innate car'all to do the same.

Hmm... I hope I made that understandable.

Nope, Dasson, you didn't

A human would not draw car'all form a wand, nor would anyone else, unless they used a specific spell for it. A human would have to "force" his car'all, thinking in terms of e.g. "fire-destruction", and force the tree aflame.

Elves, on the other hand, merely change the natural balance in the car'all, setting the tree aflame... they don't force it aflame, they sorta turn it into flame.. (Remeber, elves do not fear death, or destruction, for that matter - for them Ava and Coor are not simple good and evil... Elves are Arti's favourite race, )

And Rayne, elves have an affinity to Xeua as well, I believe. And I agree with Dason, elves do not train the saem way... elves would use less reagents and less formulas.. or at least, they would not study formulas that strict.

And level 7 is graduation from Ximax, and quite powerful mage...

Now, did I make it more understandable?

Aren't Ximax graduates level 6?
I've always thought of the relationship between Ava and Coor as something like Yin and Yang.  Not sure how accurate that is though.

Ximax graduates are six, yes. And I thought it said somewhere that the max was Level 8/9 for everyone apart from world developers specializing on magic (Xarl has a lvl 11, doesn't he?), but maybe the max was changed, I don't know.;)

Anyway, if level 9 is allowed, you'd sure need an excellent CD for it...

::glares at Silfer;: Obviously someone did not read my explanation on Cár'áll usages!

If you still don't understand the difference between elven and human magic, I would reccomend wandering to the cár'áll entry here in this forum and taking a look.

*cringes under the glare* Fine, fine, I admit, I didn't read it. However, I did now, and I sort of agree with you.. sort of. Remeber, opinions differ, even among races, not to mention Santharians
