Hi Hylphan,

Just a quick nit-picky point.  I like the names, though there are some definite differences between species of Malva and Hibiscus.  Both of these genera are members of the Mallow Family (Malvaceae). but they are in different Tribes.  These different tribes are characterized by differences in reproductive morphology.  Members of the Hibisceae Tribe have several carpels fused into a compound ovary, while members of the Malveae Tribe have several separate carpels found on a central receptacle.  Also, the leaves you described sound like compound leaves, which would make me think this is indeed a member of the Hibisceae Tribe.

Still, it is reasonable that these differences could be overlooked, as they often were in the past.  Either way, I love the names and think Malva's Heart is a good second name.

Cheers!

Hi Trelstahl,
I am patterning it after the picture that you can see linked at the end of the entry... see what you think?

Other than the Myth/Lore section (which is in progress) I believe this one is also ready for an URI check.  As with the other, please don't pull any punches.  I want these entries to be the best I can make them.

Hi Hylphan,

To me it looks like Hibicus.  Again, I like the names you've chosen, including Malva's Heart.  All plants have various common names - typically even more than two - and in many cases have nothing to do with Latin nomenclature.  I say go for it!  thumbup

Mixing things up between species actually makes entries better, most of the time...

Categorization:

     Flowering bush.

Basic overview:
This bush can vary from one fore to almost two peds in height, depending on age of the bush, distance from the shoreline, and whether or not it is in a sheltered area.
The bush tends to be very thick, with a multitude of dark Sognastheen leaves, and the outside of the bush is dotted with large flowers every couple of spans across the surface.
Its scent is very lovely, and can be smelled at fair distances on the soft breezes of its homeland.  The blooms can be distilled down to a very rare, and very expensive, fragrant perfume.

Description:

The main "trunk" can produce an abundance of smaller branches, each with many leaves.  Leaves are on average four to six nailsbreadth in length, and two to three nailsbreadth wide.  They are not flat, but a wide "v" shape from side to side, allowing the leaf to catch and hold water.  why doesn't the water run down the sides? a V has an opening on two sides, right along the middle. They are varied in color from a medium to deep green. You specified sognastheen in the overview, a verry distinct color, leaving no room for variations.
Blooms, or flowers, vary in size by the size of the bush, and can grow to reach almost a span across the five large petals.  The distinguishing feature of the flowers is the coloration: a blood red center that fades out into Korwyn Gold, continuing through Injohue, to Styruine, making very beautiful yellow petals, each overlapping the one to its left.  The stigma and stamen protrude on a single stem, at least three to four nailsbreadths out of the center of the flower, making it easy for its primary pollinator name it to become covered with its Aeruillin Red pollen.  This stem's coloration matches the petals - blood red at the center of the flower and fading into bright Styruine towards the stigma and stamen.

Territory:

The only place this plant can be found is on several of the larger islands in the Scattersand Shoals.  This plant requires plenty of sun, and a warm humid climate to survive.  Several attempts have been made to transplant it to Southern Sarvonia, but without success.  Even in its native habitat, it is very difficult to get the plant to grow after transplanting it, as farmers are discovering.

Usages:

The Halak-sun is a beautiful ornamental bush for around the house - if you could transplant it!  It's flowers are used to distill a very fragrant perfume, which is very rare and expensive.  Each small vial of perfume requires an extraordinary number of blossoms to make.    Because of this, the perfume continues to be a very limited commodity.

Myths/Lore:

Also known as Malva's Heart.
Pirate Kidnapping, Lost Love, Broken Heart, story to come ... stay tuned for action and adventure!

A couple of minor things to adress, i'm looking forward to the Myth section! And a general tip; use the actual name for the bish a couple of times throughout the entry, instead of "the bush" or "it". It makes people remember it better, and reads less static.

Would it be possible to submit the entry "as is" and add in the myth/lore section later? (as in a month or so?)  I think I have addressed all concerns and suggestions, I just need time to sit down and write the story behind the name, Malva's Heart.  I want to make the story detailed enough to go into the library if possible, in the Myth/Lore section.  Or the "fairy tale" section, if you will.  In that way I further tie the flower into the overall scheme of things.  Does this sound like a good idea??  Let me know...

Yes, that's possible of course, Hylphán. The Myth/Lore section is optional in general, so getting it in a bit later shouldn't be a problem :)

As per today, the Herbarium Template has been changed, and the "Reproduction" section is no longer optional. I'm sorry i have to pile more work on you for this plant, but before we can have this uploaded some Reproduction data needs to be added.

OK Mira - I think I have a viable reproduction section in place.  It involved creating two new species which I will have to write up for the bestiary, but I think they can wait a little while.  Sometimes things aren't as simple as they seem, are they?  Please give this a thorough check and see what you think.  Thanks!

There is only one environmental facto given :P.. and can't we find a better word for "environmental"? it sounds verry modern.

Good work by the way! solve these remarks and i'll give you the arrow!

Files have been replaced again, but the question remains how long this will last. SMF support will have a look at the security problem.

It has been hacked. The third time in 3 days. I need to replace the changed files again (won't happen before evening) - and then see what the SMF support recommends as a strategy.
