Role Playing Board is here, no need to rant on the Dev Board.

I hope, for the RPG Board's sake, that they DO have a button saying "CREATE CHARACTER"....

And perhaps a big arrow.  Yellow.  Flashing.

With lights around it.

Well, there's a big 'Character Creation' link on the left menu (which is open by default), leading to a page that explains how one should go about creating their character, and people still fail to find it.   rolleyes

well, I'll be honest...the first day I found this site, I was overwhelmed.  There is so very much information, and I had never been on a forum board before.  It is very, very intimidating.  Since learning this one somewhat (for I'm far from an expert at the forum design yet) I have been to other sites and they are all very similar (though to be quite honest, this one is by far the best, and is my favorite).  The one thing I think that they should, but none have, is a "Start" page with a tutorial where you CANNOT go anywhere until you have followed a series of lessons that gradually open up the forum to you in stages.  Perhaps when each of you experts started on these sites, they were small enough that you could get the hang of it right away.  But you have contributed to it everyday, new threads, new topics, new rules, etc.  They might have been gradual, logical changes for you as they happened, but for someone new, it just becomes harder to understand.
I liken it to a tourist coming to a new city and given a car to see the sites.  Without a good map, he will be lost, compared to a person who has lived in that city for years who knows all the short cuts to these same sites.
Perhaps one day you could have an interactive tutorial much like that great library you are developing with interactive lessons that are nested within each other, to OPEN up the site, which fewer options for the newbie gradually becoming having more option open up as he progresses.
Just my opinion.  I consider myself quite intelligent, but I still was overwhelmed.

Hi everyone,

As Mina has mentioned, right underneath the words: WHERE TO BEGIN, there is a link to setting up a character.  All you have to do is click on the words CHARACTER CREATION (which is in big bright yellow letters), and everything you need to know about putting together a character is given in very precise detail.  It very explicitly states (and provides the link to) where the Character Description (or CD) should be placed so that the moderators can assess the CD, supply helpful comments, and eventually approve characters once they meet the standards of the RP board.

I wonder if a lot of people aren't used to typical RP games that make character creation very formulaic, with more emphasis on rolling dice or assigning points to Stats, than on developing a persona for one's self.  A character sheet (like the ones in D&D, etc.) is easy to fill in, as it emphasizes attributes, abilities, equipment and other technical 'stuff'.  Our CD takes a little more time (and deliberation), as it emphasizes appearance, personality and history.
