I see that the Gathorn Mountains are the southern border of Remusia... but I was wondering if I could plop one in the middle of the wastes somewhere.  North of the Gathorns, or maybe even on the same Island Area as Rhemir.  You know I won't go overboard with it... I just have some ideas for religious and historical importance for it.. would really give me some nice touches.... it won't be some lively fiery valcanoe or anything.. nor some immense peak.. just a run of the mill mountain found separate from the rest... (maybe an ancient extinct volcanoe in order to justify it being there, if you need)

What's the geographic rationale?  Was that area volcanic?

It's not usually a problem to add details to a close up map (especially since so few actually exist in reality) but you need to know how it got there.  And 'because I said so' isn't gonna cut it - even for Artimidor!  :D

Are the Gathorns fold mountains?  (No, I don't want to get into tectonic plate theory, shoo shoo Talia!)  I just want to know how a separate mountain might have popped up.   We already have a couple of free-standing mountains which have their own unique names and significances, so you don't want to duplicate them.

Ideally, you'd look at the map and run out a chain of low foothills off the Gathorns which 'attach' your larger peak - which would still be dramatic in contrast to the wastes.  You could style those foothills 'The Spine' and have them be rocky, barren rises which point dramatically towards the great thrust of the mountain set in the plain...    whaddya think?  :)

Yeah... not a lot of detailed close up views of that area... I could run out a spine... where that one peak towered above the others... and I use the term mountain loosely... for it onlty needs to dramaticly rise from the surrounding terrain... but, if in my research etc, I needed it on the island with Rhemir, then that explanation of a spine of foothills does not wash....

And what about glacier formation?  A land of all ice might have had a period where glaciers could have piled up a huge pile of dirt debris.. that would now look like a lone mountain....

I mean, if this is not a plausible request, I can always work around it, but it would add to the flavour...

No, no, sounds good to me, Alt!  Glaciers are quite plausible.  In fact, I think we should have one... we have volcanoes, but no great glaciers!   Can you look around (not to distract you from THIS thread) and find a spot for a future Great Glacier entry?  :)  I'll ask Alysse (Northlands) and Talia (geography/cosmology) as well...

Well.. the northern slopes of the Gathorns could be the home of some glaciers.... these being the ones that created the mountain I'm needing...

If you mean more of a continental shelf deal, like Antarctica, then perhaps further north, in the Vertans region...
