Traditional Kuglimz lament

Oh my beloved
Our promises are broken
You have left me; gone where
I cannot follow— I cannot follow…
Beloved.

Now I must go on
Bereft past any comfort
And wait on Lier’tyan
To send me after--to send me after…
Beloved.

And when Jav'eir’s wings
Have shadowed my vision
I’ll welcome the darkness
To show me your face—to show me your face…
Beloved.

Translated from the Kuglimz by Alysse the Likely and F'ash the Archivist

This is tragically beautiful, Alysse.  cry

Sorry, I don't have any constructive criticism--it's just lovely.

Thank you both!  I never mind hearing simple appreciation expressed. (though of course any critiques are welcome too)

I've sent a recording of the music to Art and I am hoping he can attach it to the piece for me as I don't know how to do this (hangs head, looks embarrassed).  It's intended as a vocal piece with no instrumental accompaniment.

(Seconds Alt's expression) We need you in the Northlands!

The piece is both very expressive and very Santharian....

I'm looking forward to hearing the music that goes with it, as well.

Yep, yep, here I am with the music! I managed to convert it to MP3 format, so that it is all in all not much more than 1 MB - however I don't know how to put the two parts together. Maybe someone has experience with that. Could ask Macar for example, he should know how to do it. - Anyway, here the two files for now:

Lament for a Beloved, Part I (0:47 minutes, 743 KB)
Lament for a Beloved, Part II (0:27 minutes, 436 KB)

The quality of the recording is really great here, and can go directly at the site, no signs of disturbances of anything, very cool :) There's no instrument used here, but Alysse's voice is find enough, as is the songs content and realization itself! thumbup

Which reminds me: Is Judy also still with you, Alysse? Maybe you could try recording some more together now that you seem to have figured it out how to record something properly! I guess Judy still has something up here sleeve? :)

This is fantastic, Alysse!

I had to laugh when I saw that you were doing music - Likely indeed, but it seems it should be Likely to succeed as well as just to try anything.

This piece has a very eerie, spine-tingling melody.  I would love to hear this in the original Kuglimz one day...  :D

Thank you, Art!  (And thank you too, for your kind comments, Grunok!  I'm still blushing...)

Judy and I will be spending a few more days together before she returns to Korea (she is currently at our mom's place in St. Thomas).  I am hoping to induce her to do some recording here, because I think that we currently have a better quality recording system and it would be nice to get some more of her vocal music on site.

Of course, we have a few more distractions here, which provide plenty of their own background noise (i.e. "Mommy!  What are you singing?  Why did you say 'Shh!' Why do I have to be quiet, Mom?  Ooh, can I sing too?  I can sing nice, Mom, listen to me!  Record me, Mommy!" etc., etc., ad infinitum) rolleyes  Still, we should be able to put something together.

If you record the right things, you might be able to put those young voices to work... *flexes orcish fingers in the direction of our mascots*  maybe a nursery rhyme or two?   grin

Well, then, if all this needs is for someone to put the music together, I'll put the blue arrow on it.  Thanks to all who commented!  Sometimes I find it difficult to be sure I have achieved my intended effect with such an entry until fresh eyes have viewed and responded to it.  Not being a bard, I often feel slightly presumptuous writing AND performing music, but the response to this piece has renewed my confidence.  Thanks again.

Yeah, blue arrow is fine - I also just PMed Macar asking for technical assistance, let's see if he gets my manage and can manage to join the pieces! And nursery rhymes and stuff sound funny too, good idea, Grun! grin

I'm your man.  Should take only a few minutes, I'll see if I can boost the quality a little too while I'm at it.  BTW- merging two files can even be done with Windows sound recorder, just open one file and choose Paste From.  BRB

PS  The second one should be: http://stuff.santharia.com/alysse/lament_part2.mp3  I had to type it so I could click save as :D

Sorry, it would have been faster but the system went wonky when I tried to attatch the file.  I kept the dry version if you think the reverb is too much, but I thought it amplified the eerieness.

That's great Macar, I really like the echo.  I don't feel like it's overdone at all, personally.

Files have been replaced again, but the question remains how long this will last. SMF support will have a look at the security problem.

It has been hacked. The third time in 3 days. I need to replace the changed files again (won't happen before evening) - and then see what the SMF support recommends as a strategy.

Arti, could you maybe take a look at the RPG board? I got a message from my anti-virus program and now I can't access the column on the right with the list of current threads and the shoutbox. Thankies :)
