Maybe following the way things are done in Styrásh would be the way to go with TrullTrull as well? I would imagine that the different tribes of elves in Santharia would probably have different words for things ... but for the sake of the compendiumists, we have a version of Styrásh that a tribe of elves near the compendium speak and have the different tribes names and terms translated as though they are in that language. That might be a possible solution for TrullTrull words as well.

I can imagine the Ghereghut having a language at least somewhat similar to that of the Kloighut, as a. the language is very slow to change and b. they have at least some shared development. The question remains, then, if the vocabulary of the different tribes are different as well, or the same at basis but with other linguistic developments influencing them.
From the look of it, the Marghoghut, Kloighut, and Ghereghut were the same tribe until less than 1700 years ago.  If they changed like human languages, my guess is that they would be speaking different languages that are just barely recognisable as being related.  But you say language change is slower for trolls, so depending on how much slower it is, the three tribes might still be speaking dialects of the same language.  As for other tribes, I'm not sure.  Do we have any kind of history for them?

(maybe it is a tool for scholars as they learn one set of terms from the Kloighut and then apply them to all tribes)
Tribe specific elements would, however, neccesitate new vocab, in the TRULTRUL variant of that particular tribe.
This seems plausible, and would make it easier to separate development of the trollish language(s) from the tribes.  Considering how most developers seem relatively uninterested in developing languages, this sounds like a good solution.  As for tribe-specific elements, I doubt that they would be much of a problem.  We could just make up random words (assuming it's an unrelated language), or simply avoid using trollish words for those concepts.

The Ghereghut, the Kloighut, and the Marghoghut were all of the same tribe roughly 2,000 years ago. It's been those 2,000 years since the Kloighut split from the Marghoghut. And, it's been around 1100 years since the Ghereghut split with the Kloighut.

As to the other tribes, if we go back to the very beginning, all trolls were originally of the same tribe. That original tribe split into four groups roughly 13,000 years ago (around the time of the Great Sundering). Three of the four groups (forest, stone, and snow) have pretty much been isolated from other races since the split. The Marghoghut were the fourth.

Language is not my forte, so it's a rough guess. But, I would think it likely that the night, mountain, and cave tribes speak different dialects of the same language, whereas the snow, stone, and forest tribes speak different languages entirely that have their roots in the original troll language.

I'm not sure how fitting Klohtrul would be for the alpha male. It'll be perfect for the mountain tribe with their strength oriented hierarchy (and their great size... I'm definitely stealing the word for the mountain trolls!), but the cave troll alpha wouldn't necessarily be the strongest but rather the most successful at mating (strength being just one trait sought by a female).

Guess these revisions are pretty much done, right Vesk? So we should be able to include them next update I assume (could have put them up even this time), unless you plan to add or change some more. But as far as I'm concerned we don't really need to get into exact details on linguistic development just to get these adjustments up ;)

Hope you also make further progress on the Kloighut, so that we can have a closer look before the next update, and then maybe we can start the troll revolution with getting them both up...  cool

Yep, the cave trolls are good to go.

The Kloighut are nearly finished. I've got more written in my Word file than I do in the forum post: I've been holding back!

I hope to one day have the entire Compendium written in TRULTRUL...

Ah, too bad that internet is so restricted in China, Ferra. Can't be much fun surfing the web that way if Big Brother's watching you... Hope you enjoy your stay nevertheless!

Hi, dear Arti and other developers!

This year I am in China and cannot use any Google services including YouTube. For this reason I stopped uploading new Nepris videos. I can also not read any comments there.

It just crossed my mind that this information might be useful to you.
