I have noticed a rather strange phenomenon lately - every newbie I have talked to seems to have disappeared!  I looked a bit more closely, and I noticed that more than that, it seems that almost all of them have gone!  While a lot of our oldbies have been a lot less in evidence lately too, this Case of the Disappearing Newbies sat in my mind long enough that the below sort of poured out of my brain on to a page.  It's odd, because poetry and I hate one another.  Or so I thought...

I have dwelt too long by the Thaehelvil
I have knelt too long on the Horn Plains
I have lingered there near the Paelelon
I’ve been delving deep into Ring caves
But I now return and they all have flown -
Where have all our newbies gone?

O Arin of the Rubyvine
(I was inspired to draw it)
His Worm is lonely in its cave
The Cliffs are fogged before it
Ciosa has no Rest to find
So long as it’s out of Woodwealth’s mind.

Kelancey of the lovely Bones
And phitlers, steams and potions
Our Body Parts we cannot name
Our surgeons have no notion
Of what to use to heal our Ills
The Green man’s caught, perhaps, a Chill?

The easel stands, a lonely sight
Since Sabelwolffe has gone
Drucilla’s Guard has lost his fight
The Wison is forlorn
To where has that fair artiste passed?
It’s been long months ere I saw her last.

Barrurbeleth still haunts these halls
His footstep’s music lingers
But his voice, it seems, is stole away
His pen has dropped from his fingers
Arceon please, we miss your words
Which seldom lately have been heard.

Kings of the North received their due
From Trelstahl’s expert pen
But this Newcomer’s left us too
And left enshrouded Raevalem
Which we had lately hoped to see
This masterwork is not to be?

Our newest Melor promised things
Of great and and wond’rous merit
Melancholy her absence brings
Oh, no, I cannot bear it
As Eoranna’s parting leaves
A hole where Kokdar should have been.

Of Wolves and Canines he is fond
And so we say, most thankfully
That he has yet to stray beyond
The kennel in our bestiary
How we’ve kept him I cannot say
But loyal our ‘Dog-boy’, Garret, stays.

Comments unread and threads un-blarrowed
Who calls them all away?
Plants untended and places untravelled
Oh why could they not stay?
Books unwritten and bodies unlabelled
My stink, perhaps, has grown…?
These spells uncast and songs unheard
Our newbies all have flown.
With out your work we cannot grow
We love you all and miss you so!

Additional verses for others are welcome  :)

I am still about, if only in passing Grun! heart Although I am attempting to finish the scattered remnants of my started entries, hopefully to garner some inspiration for future ones. I may be silent around these parts but my heart still lingers. hug

Marvelous piece, Grun!  It should go in our Poems section - perhaps with the Welcome Back sections I used to write?  :)   Delightfully doggerel-ish, with puns that make one jealous...

Just a minor thing, Garret is a girl... But then, the character Garret is a boy, so dog-boy is not wrong either :p

Otherwise, great poem. They should come back with a clarion-call like that...

@ Irid:  Yay, I hope they do!  And I know Garret is a girl; Eoranna is a boy... well, man, I suppose; he's a little old to be a boy - anyway, I decided to write about the characters rather than the actual people.  "Dog-boy" comes from one of Garret's entries, the Voldon Dog.  It seems to be the name for what you are before you are a kennel-master, so I thought it was appropriate  :D  Nice to get some actual feedback on the technical side though.

@ Judy:  Haha, I hadn't really thought that this would find a place on the site, so I guess 'doggerel' is appropriate!  But now that it will, perhaps I should change the posticon...  :P

@Alt and Azhira:  Yes, and we are very thankful for you both.  Now back to work!  lol  hug

Ok, I noticed somethings, and here I quote:

Quote
every newbie I have talked to seems to have disappeared]every newbie I have talked to seems to have disappeared

shocked We might be onto something here... lol Orcish researchers scare newbies away! ;)

But a lovely poem/song you've made there, Grun, let's hope those people who are mentioned in it get back to work now! At least not everybody can say that someone has written a song about them!

Well, an internet project like this isn't so easy to keep as active all year around, so this often isn't anybody's fault. Real life just interferes at all possible times and people have to set different priorities. Just like I have to set priorities within the project as I cannot be everywhere at the same time.

I wouldn't worry that much about Trelstahl e.g., as whenever he has time he gets to something important and well researched, and just this update we've put up his latest king entry ;) I've sent a message to Arin BTW just 2 days ago, but haven't received any response from him. So I try to get people to do their job... - maybe we should consider raising the payment per entry?  grin

What an excellent idea!  I think we should raise it by 200%!  lol

I PMed Arin a while back, too, but he does seem to be quite disappeared.  But you're right, a lot of these people will hopefully just be inactive for a little while, rather than disappeared forever.

I hope some of these people see that we notice that they are not around, though, and come back.

I'm flattered, Grun!  That was very thoughtful.

I've been spending time working away at Queen Caralla - Thaelmar's mother.  I found that while there is obviously nothing about her (since I sort of made her up), that there are many entries on the site (as well as posts here and there that aren't up, but contain relevant information and thoughts, which I have been putting together.

And yes, I'm also working at Raevalem.  I've just been absent from commenting as work has taken me out of the office again.  sorry

Trel.

I'm here too!!!

I was stuck in the chasm between new and old for quite a while. Am slowly climbing up now with a half written story.  grin

It should be ready soon enough.   ;)
