This one is for Mira - becoz he asked and I couldn't resist.  It's pretty crude, but then again, it's for the Santhworld Game, so it doesn't have to be site-quality resolution.  Enjoy, Mira darlin' - but with caution!

Note to Art:  recycling of backgrounds and old pictures is ok for this purpose, right?  Not only are the pictures fairly small in comparison, but if people notice at all it gives it a consistent feel - that you are in the same place or very close to it, I think.    I have a nice 'plain' background with the shrubs, moss, and broken wall that this pic uses, if we need a herbarium illustration.  I could put some of our plant illustrations against it, in pots if you like, to create the default herbarium picture... just an idea.

Judith, what on earth possessed you to give Mira something like that to play with? Don't you think he's got enough dangerous "toys" as it is?

I just pity the poor unfortunate who he tries it out on!

Cool stuff, Judy! Mira will be delighted... :D

I guess this fits the purpose for having it in the game perfectly well - but I also think that this can be integrated on the site, even though it isn't particularly a Quellion/Faugar/Eratin three-months in the work piece. It is a very nice picture, which perhaps shouldn't be displayed in full resolution, as then you see some deficits, but if it helps to illustrate something on the site, why not use it in an entry? We show the pictures in much smaller resolutions anyway. ;)

And if you can use a standard background and focus on drawing a special plant, this saves a lot of time and we could get our illustration level further up. I'd like that, bringing in some colour and pics into text desert entries, we can't have Rembrandt pictures everywhere :)

BTW: Do you have that background you used for the slimers seperately? I think about making a mini-slimy on it that looks just like a transparent splosh, these would be the easiest enemies before your more sophisticated ones will make life hard for the player.

(looks innocent)  *I* didn't fool around with Brownie cloning techniques and illegal Ximaxian spellcastings to create Venomous Tentaculae (er, wrong universe)........I just illustrated it!  From a safe distance, I might point out.

(points surreptitiously at Mira, humming casually and continuing to blink her large emeraud eyes innocently)

Well, all I can say is don't be suprised if you find yourself short one or two researchers over the next few days. I, for one, will be keeping to my room until he's finished "trying it out".

I'll have a new tree ready for your delectation later, Judy. Plenty of culinary stuff for you to play with!

It's the Bittersweet (dev'ing it on-site) if you fancy a quick peruse.

*haha* Just absolutely perfect, Judy! Exactly how I imagined it to be. We're getting really a lot of good monstrous stuff for the game, this is magnificent :)

Can you easily make a red version for example and a darker (grey/black) one by changing some filters? Then we have a whole palette of smaller and larger ones.

I guess we can also make these monsters into an entry eventually - there was a start on slime-monsters by someone a while ago - though not entirely thought through. But this could serve as basis and properly adjusted it could be quite a decent monster entry (which we lack tremendously at the moment). We'd need to make it in the directon that it is unknown when substances are combined into something semi-intelligent or altogether intelligent and that scholars still debate on how this is produced and what it actually means in terms of intelligence.

Great work at any rate - the more variety we get regarding monsters the cooler it gets to take on the challenges Fizzlefist's Laboratory will hold :D Bravo! clap

Where do you want to put these? Just that I can avoid them--

*Groans loudly* Not another one! It's hard enough dodging all these bloody tentacles and strange puddles as it is.

We do have some decent monsters around, Art--it's pictures that are in short supply.  I mention in passing that the Swamp Stalker and Kaimun are a couple of nasty little lesser monsters you could use (Alysse pretends not to notices that she happened to research those two) if you want a couple of minor monsters for people to encounter.

Perhaps the Bard might even be enticed to draw one of them for the project...(turns hopeful big puppy-dog eyes on the ever-so-clever and talented Bard)  :D

I drew a Saltstalker ages ago (a large heron-type bird which looks rather terrifying) but it was never approved for some reason.  I think the background wasn't considered accurate, or something.  At any rate, a large stalking bird with a menacing eye might make a nice touch for the Herbarium or outer courtyard, if you want it.   It would be more likely than having a Caimun in the ornamental pond, methinks....

Actually, I was thinking about monsters that could be tackled, say, on the road to Nepris, not ones for the Lorehold.   I fully agree that only somebody like Reve'lor would have a Kaimun loose in his backyard.  :D

BTW, the Swamp Stalker and the Salt Stalker aren't the same beast--the former is a revolting brute that looks like a vaguely bipedal tree (something like a throughly decayed Ent) which preys on unwary creatures by grabbing them and pressing them against its abdomen, from which it then begins to ooze a putrid substance which  speedily dissolves the unfortunate victim.  It then reabsorbs the fluid remains.

The Salt Stalker is the bird you describe.

Files have been replaced again, but the question remains how long this will last. SMF support will have a look at the security problem.

It has been hacked. The third time in 3 days. I need to replace the changed files again (won't happen before evening) - and then see what the SMF support recommends as a strategy.

Arti, could you maybe take a look at the RPG board? I got a message from my anti-virus program and now I can't access the column on the right with the list of current threads and the shoutbox. Thankies :)
