Title of the thread says it all. I'm working on a poem and for some general information and for the moment I'm at a loss what people think of Fate in Santharia. Do people believe in Destiny, or is that just wrong to think? Do we have 'weavers of fate', like in Greek Mythology. Any help, from different cultural experts or cosmologist, or our more zealous religious advisors, is appreciated!

Well, this topic hasn't been openly discussed as of yet I think, but like here on Earth there might be extremely differing viewpoints on this, not only depending on the religion you're coming from, but also within a certain belief.

In regards of the Aviaría - if you look at the Seyella entry you see the following passage:

Alas, though a God, Seyella was unaware of Coór's dark machinations in the world. And so when Eu'reóll, the Tree of Life, suddenly caught fire out of nowhere, She is said to have stood close to it and in the flames She suddenly saw the real picture of the Dream, a picture on which - though existent in her being - She hadn't looked at before. And the intensity of the flames kindled by the Shadow Himself hurt the Goddesses vision and so She turned blind.

From this moment on the Goddess covers Her eyes with a blindfold, and it is said that if it would be missing one would only see the horror of Coór reflecting in these eyes and not the bright, delighted glance Seyella once used to have. The Goddess still knows all things - origin, becoming and returning of the world to the beginning -, but shocked by the view of the Burning Tree She has no need to see them anymore. Through His vision Coór also bereft the Goddess of Her powers to alter the fate of the individuals, as the horror buried within creation itself left an undeleteable trace of desperation in Her. Seyella also covers Her eyes because She feels the absolute helplessness not to be able to interfere in things existing anymore. She doesn't want to see the evil which has befallen the world, the deaths contradicting Avá's bliss, and so She protects Herself from the destruction, envy and arrogance reigning in many hearts of the Gods' Children. All She still has is the knowledge of all these things. Life without Seyella's existence wouldn't be possible, but Her role among the Gods has changed: it only consists anymore of fulfilling the Dream of Avá in reality.

You can interpret this that way that with the Burning of the Tree it is clear that everything is predetermined, as Seyella knows it all - past, present and future. She cannot alter it, she just has the gift of knowledge as the world unfolds naturally in the way it does. That's why she's so desperate. The judging of the soul after the death by Seyella in this interpretation doesn't meant that she's pulling the strings and gives a completely new direction, but that just everything is connected to her, as the "loom" if you so want, and if you start a new thread, you need to bring the old one back to continue, yet how it all continues is nothing Seyella can actually do anything about. After all, she's blind, she just has this functiion in the world to weave the threads of fate. She didn't produce the material as such.

Free will and fate however aren't really antagonisms in my point of view. There's no possibikity to differentiate anyway from a human's point of view, so whatever you believe in, the result is the same. Either you think you have the power to change the world (free will) or you think that you act based on fate, the will of some transcendent entity (or pre-entity for that matter, as Avá for example doesn't actually "be") - the results are the same, only your explanation differs.

Hello all! It's been a minute since I poked my nose in here. Can't remember if I ever did anything useful.

Ah, too bad that internet is so restricted in China, Ferra. Can't be much fun surfing the web that way if Big Brother's watching you... Hope you enjoy your stay nevertheless!

Hi, dear Arti and other developers!

This year I am in China and cannot use any Google services including YouTube. For this reason I stopped uploading new Nepris videos. I can also not read any comments there.

It just crossed my mind that this information might be useful to you.
