Don't know about the hundred, but today I've got 8 alone from Norway via mail, definitely coming from Gunn's relatives/friends.

Also got Khiera signing the petition today :)

I give it a few more days, especially as I see that mails are still coming in from Norway. Those who haven't signed up yet are strongly advised to show their support for another Santharian member. This is the time to show that you care for your fellow Santharians. - The more people and the more countries we get on the list, the more weight it will have.

Further to my IM to Artimidor:

Should we also make it a bit more clear that we are objecting to an interim decision/measure to allow a person convicted of murder by the court of first instance to be free on bail pending the appeal rather than the actual judgment? As a law student I would be disinclined towards campaigning actively against the substance of a court decision or commenting critically on a judgment I have not read in full. However, here we are not trying to interfere with the legal process: it will be the Court of Appeal who will ultimately decide whether or not this man is guilty. We are just opposing a procedural point that allows convicted murderers to mingle with the rest of society pending their appeal, right?

What do you mean with "actual judgment", Coren? We don't intend to criticize the judgement of the court as it decided (life sentence), nor do we object to the decision of the Court of Appeal, which still has to be made. We critcize this interim decision of the appeal court. Personally I think our letter makes that pretty clear, but we always improve a pssage or two in this respect, no problem.

Also, I would add what you told Rakshiri (quoted below) into the petition:

The appeal to reverse the sentence or declare that it isn't valid is under way. It lasts 6-18 months until someone will actually decide this. There was a decision that needed to be made right now whether the culprit has to stay in prison until that decision or not. And the appeal judge said: It is in the interest of the public that the murderer is free until this decision is made. And thus Mailhot is free on bail right now.

The AFPAD/MMPFA seeks an amendment of the law in this case, so that if  the crime is murder the culprit should stay in prison if he got a sentence against him. Right now a single judge can decide without limits who to release until the appeal is handled, regardless of the sentence.



PS: Re "actual decision": whatever judgment the Court of Appeal finally hands down - ie whether they will overturn the decision of the court of first instance or dismiss the appeal

Hey, guys, we're getting pretty much out-performed by Gunn's contacts in Norway - I got at least 30 of those alone by now - and I'm sure more are still coming...

In order to have the list more balanced with different nationalities I guess it is in order if you tell friends or relatives about the story and ask them to have their names on the list as well - then we could increase the amount, and the more we get the more impressive such a list will get I'd say.

Actually, he's living in England at the moment. He came across a few years ago for a holiday, met Mrs W's friend, and sort of stayed.

They get married next month, then after Christmas they go to live in Jamaica.
