OK so i figure i might as well fill some of the holes in the Snacks of Santharia entry, and Popped Grain caught my attention. So, i have decided to make this my next entry.

@Judith, Any particular ideas you wanted to be added with this?

Overview: Ripe bredden grains with a certain amount of moisture remaining can be placed in a heavy iron pot with a bit of seasalt and sunseed oil, and roasted for a delicious snack. Care must be taken to cover and shake the pot, as the grains will puff up and attempt to hurl themselves out of the pot! Whether the name ‘Popping Grain’ was bestowed on the bredden for this attribute or for the explosive way in which the male releases its seeds, is unknown. At any rate, farmchildren do not seem to care as they wolf down their ‘popgrain’, and innkeepers have recently begun to realize that the salty, buttery snack is almost as effective as doch nuts or sunseeds at evoking thirst in their customers!

Mmmmm, let's see.  Now that we have a few other grains, can any of them be popped, or is it just the Bredden?  Perhaps some areas like their Popgrain with a shake of ground peppercorns, or dried Jhelhee powder for a bit of extra spice?   Grated cheese?   Can we throw a raw Weeproot in the pot along with the popping grains to flavour them slightly of aelons?   Has some clever lass decided to try sprinkling foridite on to make a sweetly sticky snack, or a bit of Cinna?

Perhaps some boys with too much energy play hooky from their chores, pilfer a sheaf of Breddan from a neighbour's field, and build a little fire to sit around and pop grain, enjoying the illicit pleasures of 'stolen fruit is always sweeter'.....

In Marcogg, the fashion is currently to make a savoury creamed Lythebel soup and garnish it  with these popped grains.  The contrast between the brown and white puffs of grain and the lovely rich red of the soup is quite beautiful.

I think one Northern clan (ask Alysse who, and where it's warm enough to grow Breddan, or a substitute) uses the exploding grains as a sort of fortunetelling, deliberately leaving the lid off the pot and putting in only as many grains as there are people in the room.....  the direction in which they fly has portent for the immediate future, as do the various contorted shapes... :)

More ideas upon request!  :D

Works for me.

Hello all! It's been a minute since I poked my nose in here. Can't remember if I ever did anything useful.

Ah, too bad that internet is so restricted in China, Ferra. Can't be much fun surfing the web that way if Big Brother's watching you... Hope you enjoy your stay nevertheless!

Hi, dear Arti and other developers!

This year I am in China and cannot use any Google services including YouTube. For this reason I stopped uploading new Nepris videos. I can also not read any comments there.

It just crossed my mind that this information might be useful to you.

Cheers
