This is an excellent site you have here. As a big fan of J.R.R. Tolkien, I'm really excited about getting into this.

As my contribution to Santharia's development, I'd like to add to the knowledge we have of the Susilgerim tribe. This could mean plenty of things later on, but for starters I'd like to develop more of their histroy. Especially, I'd like to work my way up to adding a famous person to their history.

I hope this is an acceptable area to develop. Again, this is a very amazing project, and I hope I get to add to it soon.

A hearty welcome, then, to a Tolkien fan and fellow dwarvenophile!

I see you've already chosen an appropriate name; well done.   'Morden' not only sounds well, it reads well and is an easily memorable name ('Dark-Day'...nice, and of course does not have negative meanings for an underground race...)

'Pedischirgolz', however accurate, is a rather unwieldy construction (my fault for creating such an unwieldy word to mean 'lonely' in the first place!)   In practice, particularly in names, syllables become slurred together, or elided.  Quite likely your family name would be pronounced, and eventually spelt, as 'Peshirgolz'.  If that works for you, please feel free to change it, an easy job on these boards!

As to the Susilgerim, I'd have to see who worked on them and what might need adding.  History probably won't be a problem (one of my weaknesses, strangely), nor adding a famous person.  We love history, and we love people entries!    However, it is a bigger task to tackle, involving a great deal of research, and we don't usually encourage newcomers to start with something so large.  To get you familiar with the huge amount of detail and cross-referencing that's already on the site and that's required for a decent entry, we generally suggest you start a bit smaller, and see how you handle that.

Would you be interested in writing up an underground plant for the tribe, for example?   Or doing a historical event that is already referenced in our timeline but not yet detailed?   Give us a couple of suggestions and we'll let you know what might be feasible.    And once again, welcome to the Dream - we hope you'll stay and dream along with us!

Regards from the Bard,
Judith

Those sound like some good ideas. I think adding some more material to the building of the Great Hall and the Heaths of Blood would be interesting. I also like the plant idea, I'll need to think more on that one though.

Hello and welcome, Morden! wave

As you perhaps have noticed, Judy is our dwarf mistress around here, so any general questions in this regard she can answer best. These northern dwarves are a bit different to most other clans, but I'm sure expansion on them would be most welcome to get this part of the world developed a bit better as far as dwarves are concerned. :)

Anyway, welcome to the dream - I'm looking forward on your Susilgerim additions!

I'd like to make a plant along these ideas.

Ultir Khorimyeh (Light of Dying) - A small, bush like plant that grows in the caves, tunnels, and very shady areas of the Imlith mountains. It is about 3 palmspans, 2 grains high. It is a pale yellowish-white color. Its leaves secrete a luminescent orange sap, which is extremely poisonous. There are two varities of this plant. One grows underground and has a very weak stem, and tends to grow outwards, making it seem like a cross of a bush and a vine. The second grows on heavily shaded regions above ground. It has a somewhat stronger stem, grows a palmspan higher than its underground counterpart, and ismore clearly a bush. The Susilgerim have cultivated both varieties in a limited fashion to harvest the poison for use on their weapons.

What do you think?

Well, I think that sounds like as good a place to start as any. Our initial recommendation at this point is for you to take a look at the sticky-threads at the top of the Herbarium forum, which will show you how to set your entry out and other such nonsense. Also recommended is for you to read a couple of already entried plants, to pick up a 'feel' for what you should be aiming for.

Whether you develop your plant on or off-site is up to you, but as a beginner, I'd suggest you do it on-site. That way everyone can offer suggestions/comments as the plant develops.

One thing, though, poisonous plants have to be very special to make it past our Herbarium mods. We try to keep them as a rarity, otherwise it would be too easy for everyone to start killing everyone else off!

That said, I'd stick to your initial ideas and see where it takes you.

Good luck, and I can't wait to see the results of your labours.

Well, I certainly prefer to see poison as a byline, not a main focus of a plant.   For example, this 'Ultir Vine' (human name?) might be a dye source or a medicine. The roots could be quite healthful even though the leaves are poisonous, or the roots a flour source when grated, squeezed, and treated (like manioc).    The sap might be a useful narcotic in small doses but poisonous in larger, or non-poisonous to dwarves but rather dangerous to small animals....   Think big and think wide - there are all kinds of possibilities when working with plants!

Ok, sounds good. Should I post an entry for this plant on the Herbarium forum now to let them comment on it, or do you guys want to hear more ideas?

Hey, I've got another question. What is the climate/terrain like in the Imlith mountains? I can't find any information specifically devoted to the Imliths on the site. Is this something that requires further development (in that case, I'll help out), or under development, or maybe I just missed it because I'm a newbie (figures). Anyway, it would be useful to know.

Ooooh, thanks for the reminder!  We have a huge Climate thread/discussion ongoing that needs to be wrapped up and put to bed.  There's a nice big map and everything.  You can take your assumptions from it, if you can figure out the temperature measurement system.  I think it's over in the Misc. Forum.... will go see....

In case you should miss it, I think she means this one. Good luck with your work master Morden, I hope you'll find this a rewarding home to work in. A hearty welcome from the province of Truban. *bows and darts off to other parts of the forum*

I would introduce myself, but I have been here before. I've got a new OS, and I have my eye on a walcom tablet. Faugar first introduced me to graphics, and my computer is a little more capable now. Anyways I was thinking along the lines of something very simple like, fauna(sp) or vegetation.

ps: the word "okroi" I found through Styrash. I had forgot my password at the time, but the name "winlok" was okay. So I re-registered, using "winlok okroi" as a pen-name. I couldn't get the extended characters to work, but I'm okay with that.

Hello Winlok! It has been ages since we heard from you, hasn't it? But it seems you're right in time for the 10th Santharian Anniversary!

Quite a few things have changed we last saw you on the board, so I guess you weren't around when we switched to a new message board. Your account BTW is still there, I could reactivate it for you if you want and send you a temporary password to login, and then you could change it to your liking - with reactivating the account you'd get your post count back.

Oh, and we've shamelessly used that portrait Faugar once drew for you to be used as your Forum portrait. Winlok has now turned intot Troi Ciosa! Maybe your online alter ego had a good/bad twin?  grin

Files have been replaced again, but the question remains how long this will last. SMF support will have a look at the security problem.

It has been hacked. The third time in 3 days. I need to replace the changed files again (won't happen before evening) - and then see what the SMF support recommends as a strategy.
