Here is the finished version of the Ylossian history I talked about. Please feel free to critique to your heart's content.

The Ylossian History

Age of Silence

? Dwarven creation
According to myth, the first dwarves are carved out of stone by Trum-Baroll

Age of Harmony

13000 b.S. War with Earth Drakes
The Early dwarves discover a horde of Earth Drakes while tunneling in the Tandala Mountains. It takes nearly 200 years of difficult fighting and the help of Aephesvil to destroy the beasts. In this time the dwarves decide to choose a king to be their special emissary to Aephesvil. Bakorim Barolgerim is chosen for his incredible heroics against the Earth Drakes.

12700 b.S. The beginning of Baroltyr
The Dwarves begin excavation of a great stone hall. In preparation, they tunnel deeper than they ever have before. The hall, later named Baroltyr (Cavern of the Gods), will when finished reach the size of two strals by three strals in area, and half a stral in height. Pilkorim Barolgerim succeeds his father Bakorim as king.

12450 b. S. The Line of Drakemruhnt
Pilkorim dies without leaving an heir. His popular kinsman, Ungertaal Drakemruhnt, is chosen as the new king. He begins a long line of Drakemruhnt kings.

NOTE: The following section is copied from the Caelereth timeline

12000 b.S. Trum-Baroll teaches the Dwarves
According to Dwarven myth the Hammerlord Trum-Baroll gives the Thergerim the knowledge of hammer and anvil, and the lore of metal admixture.

NOTE: The section above (Trum-Baroll teaches the Dwarves), is copied from the Caelereth timeline

Age of Sundering

11800 b.S. The adornment of Baroltyr and the Great Feast
Baroltyr is completed and adorned with vast amounts of metalwork of all kinds, precious jewels, and other works of the Dwarven craftsmen. The grand throne of the king is finished. King Rusberav Drakehnt (as the line is now called) declares the first month of the year to be a grand holiday, soon called the Vottepolul.

11670 b.S. The war with the Moh’Sys
As the Dwarves continue their deep delving, they come into contact with the Moh’Sys for the first time. The Moh’Sys are found to be hostile, and a war begins shortly. This is a very dark time for the Dwarves for reasons that are unclear to current historians. The Moh’Sys are driven into the depths of the mountains again, but little information about that war or the Moh’Sys themselves has been recorded.

11583 b.S. The Terrible Pestilence
A terrible plague sweeps through the Ylossian nation, nearly destroying it completely. The line of kings is nearly lost as both sons of the king contract the plague. One dies, but the other survives to continue the Drakehnt line.

11476 b.S. The Discovery of the Ultirkhirril
Brazar Hun, a Dwarven miner, discovers a perfectly cut gem, about the size of a Dwarf's head. The jewel emits a multitude of colors and light from its center. It is rumored that the jewel has magical powers of seeing far off things. It is therefore named Ultirkhirril, and is given into the king's possession.

10295 b.S. Ylossians explore the surface for the first time
The king Maerkaer Drakehnt becomes the first Dwarf possessing a mind strong enough to make the Uravkhirril show him images of the surface. His curiousity is piqued, and soon several expeditions of Dwarves are sent to scout the areas surrounding the Tandala Mountains.

10145 b.S. The Dwarves and Orcs first encounter each other
The Dwarven expeditions come into contact with the Losh-Oc Orcs. This marks the first known contact between the two races. However, neither side reacts very well to the other, resulting in several skirmishes. After the loss of several Dwarven expeditions, Maerkaer Drakehnt prepares for a future war. The Dwarves begin carefully studying the art of weaponsmithing.

10045 b.S. The Ylossians march against the Losh-Oc
King Maerkaer draws together a large army of Dwarves to destroy the Losh-Oc, who keep him from further exploring the surface.  The first Dwarven army easily destroys their foes within the year, greatly aided by the Ultirkhirril. The Losh-Oc go into temporary hiding in order to recover from their losses.

Era of Sorcery

9876 b.S. The Losh-Oc return with many allies
The Losh-Oc, having recovered some of their numbers, make alliances with the Ashz-Oc and Rhom-Oc tribes to fight against the Ylossians. Also, they employ the help of the Shadow Elves in the war, who bring with them several mages of considerable skill.

9875 b.S. Korimaril The Orc coalition invades the Tandala settlement
As the Dwarves are occupied with celebrating their grand festival Vottepolul, the Shadow Elf mages use their powers to block the Dwarven king Maerkaer from using the Ultirkhirril. The king is confused and bewildered by his sudden lack of ability and the Orcs take advantage of both the king’s confusion and the Ylossian’s revelry to invade the caves. The cave entrances are revealed to the Orcs by the Shadow Elf mages. Because of the Dwarves inability to cope with the use of magic against them, they suffer heavy losses and are forced to shut themselves within their caves. The Orcs lay a siege around the caves.

9874 b.S. The king Maerkaer Drakehnt dies
The great Dwarven king Maerkaer Drakehnt dies from the exhaustion of trying to break through the combined wills of the Shadow Elf mages in his attempts to use the Ultirkhirril. His son Viijkermut takes the throne.

9873 b.S. The siege of the Orcs is broken
Viijkermut, like his father, tries once again to wrest the power of the Ultirkhirril from the hold of the Shadow Elves. Viijkermut becomes the first Dwarf to be known as one of the Gifted when he throws all his will into regaining the power of the Ultirkhirril. A sudden burst of magic surged through him into the stone, not only breaking the powers of the Shadow Elf mages but killing them all in the process. So great was the flash of power that came to Viijkermut in that moment that he even caused the jewel to bring down a tremendous lightning storm upon the Orc army. Scared and confused by this turn of events, the Orcish allies fell to bickering and fighting amongst themselves. They were soon driven off by the Dwarves, and so the siege ended.

9611 b.S. The Ylossians begin to expand
With the death of Viijkermut and the ascent of his son Rotrumipperon, the new Dwarven king looks toward establishing several more settlements and beginning some small trade with Humans and Elves. The Dwarven lord Rusalen Mitharim settles a large group of Dwarves in what later became known as the Mithral Mountains.

9544 b.S. The Dwarven Korim assert their strength
The Dwarven lords demand more say in the government of the Ylossian nation. They gain the support of the people, and Rotrumipperon is forced into giving into them. A Council of Lords is formed, and it is decreed that the king’s decisions must be agreed upon by the council before they are fulfilled.

Era of Cataclysm

9447 b.S. The Drakehnt line ends
King Rotrumipperon dies, and all three of his sons die within a few months. The causes of death are never determined, and the Council of Lords takes over the government of the kingdom. They agree that the Ultirkhirril is not to be used by any of them except in times of most dire need.

9447-7447 b.S. The Dwarves experience a long peace
The Ylossians enjoy a long period of peace. They continue to expand their surrounding settlements, and trade with other races increases greatly. The Dwarves become quite prosperous in this time, and the people are happy. The population increases greatly so that overcrowding begins to become an issue in the Tandala settlements. The production of Dwarven craftsmen reaches a zenith in both quality and quantity.

Era of Consolidation

7446 b.S. The Dwarven Lord Grukormor causes dissent
The Korim Grukormor demands that he be allowed to use the Ultirkhirril. He rallies a large contingent of Dwarves to his cause, and creates dissent and distrust among the Council of Lords. Soon the Ylossians have divided themselves into clans according to which Korim they follow. The tension continues to build, nearly to the point of open fighting amongst the Dwarves.

7445 b.S. The first Kinslaying among Dwarves
The Ylossian society is torn apart by the murder of six of the Korim by followers of Grukormor. Grukormor, as the only remaining Korim, claims the Ultirkhirril for his own. A civil war is on the verge of breaking out when Ekarichaed, the oldest and wisest of the Denirim and a priest of Aephesvil, gathers a group of Dwarven warriors. He captures Grukormor and calls a meeting of the Dwarves in Baroltyr. There, Grukormor is sentenced to death, and it is decided that the majority of the Dwarves should seek new homes apart from each other, traveling in their clan groups.

7444 b.S. The Dwarves divide and Grukormor is executed
Grukormor is executed for his crimes, and the Ultirkhirril is sealed in a secret vault beneath Baroltyr. The Dwarven clans each separate and go their different ways, becoming the tribes known to us today. The remnants of Grukormor’s followers settle in northern Sarvonia as the “Black Dwarves”, and befriend the Shadow Elves of the area.

7034 b.S. The destruction of Baroltyr and of the Ylossian nation
A massive earthquake rocks the Tandala Mountains. The shocks are so powerful that Baroltyr caves in, burying the Ultirkhirril forever. The Dwarves that chose to remain in Tandala are now very few in number. The shrine to Aephesvil is destroyed in the quake, and Aephesvil is lost. The few remaining Ylossians either leave or are killed by invaders, who prey easily on the severely damaged tunnels. The Ylossian nation is finally no more.

Alright, I'm hope this sits well with the history expert (i.e. no major, glaring errors). Enjoy!

If anyone's read my last couple posts, they must realize I'm feeling kinda lonely.  cry

But seriously...like I've said elsewhere, comments have been slow in coming, but I really appreciative any that I can get.

In particular, this entry needs them due to its potential for growth. Even of you know nothing of the dwarves, some general comments would still inpire me to make it better (the point of comments, don't ya think?).

Thanks in advance for lots of comments

Not being anywhere remotely near a Dwarf expert, I'm afraid I can only offer you a basic check on this entry, Morden. Right, here goes.....

Well, I found that very interesting and informative, Morden. Very well written, detailed, descriptive, and concise.
I look forward to reading more work from you soon!

P.S. Sorry it took me so long to complete the checks, but that's the price I pay for sharing the computer with Mrs W. angry

I know little about dwarves, or their history, but I would find it very interesting if you would elaborate a little further on the creation of the Dwarves.  Perhaps a tid-bit on why Trum-Baroll created the dwarves, what tools he used (be they magical or otherwise), or who Trum-Baroll is, would be interesting additions. You know the typical who, what, where, when, how type of thing would be very intriguing.  I think it is especially important to add a "where" to this entry, so that the dwarves can have a concrete starting point.  I know it's all a myth, but a more detailed myth would be great.   grin

This is a very good start, considering the vastness of the topic, and I wish you well in its development.

OK, I need a historian opinion on a question here. Could someone explain to me the story of Kurak and the magic anvil. There a few vague references to him in the historical tables, but nothing awfully specific.

I think I will need to include him here in this table (which probably means a lttle revision work needs to go on), but I like to know if anything more in known about him, or if I would need to dev more details myself.

Morden:  Good question, as is Mies's...

I'll try and get to both of those some time soon (though not now as it's Monday morning and I've got to go to work.  I'm just checking in as I do every morning!) because they are important to the Thergerim society.

Comments/ideas later!

Hey there, is it alright to rewrite what I have done so far to include the early mythical history of the dwarves? The idea of setting down this concept for all the races was brought up earlier, and since the Ylossians are at least partially mythic in the way they are today perceived, I think it would be good to include their myths in this timeline.

I have come up with several such myths. Is it alright to post them in the library, see what you think, and then rewrite this timline with them (and probably several other already on-site myths) added in?

I'm sure we could use more details on the Ylossians, the important thing as far as dwarves are concerned would be however to somehow bring the key myths in a proper timeline - and then let ther various dwarven tribes have their own myths. I guess the dwarves aren't that complex as far as their belief is concerned, as they believe just in one God, though of course their are the stone fathers etc. - But we'd need to have something of a basic mythological timeline in the end, just as we're trying to finally nail that down for humans and elves. Maybe Judy can help out in the long run to define or re-define the cornerstones in event form for our history/mythology tables. That's all not that easy, though, so the basic things definitely have to be coordinated with Judy first.

I do NOT know why on vacation one suddenly has LESS time than the rest of the year.   Honestly, this is so frustrating! angry

Partly I suppose it's because this is a 'family' computer, shared with everyone else in the house, but also because when you only have a limited amount of time to spend with people you care about and know that you're leaving in a few weeks, it feels silly to barricade oneself in the computer room antisocially....

My deep and sincere apologies to anyone - like Morden - who is waiting on me specifically to comment and critique!  In general I don't have difficulties with this, as I'm actually dreadful at creating history, so as long as it matches up with other things that are happening in the great timeline, I'm ok with it.  It provides a lot more info than we have, and gives some benchmarks to build on.

One thing that does irritate me  :evil:is when people give exact (to the year!) dates for events that happened over ten thousand years ago - honestly, even in dwarven history which is quite literally carved in stone, some blurring, loss, error, and guesswork will be bound to creep in.  And especially with the 'Lost Race' of the Ylossians, I really think there could be a bit more vagueness as to the times - 'between 2025 b.S. and 1570 b.s., xxx happened' or 'around 1450 a.S.' or even 'in the next several hundred years after King Hrukrhunt' are all quite acceptable.

Will try to give more comments later!  Thanks for your patience...

Thanks, Judy, I'll be sure to blur all my dates from now on. ;)

You might want to wait until commenting, though, 'cause I'm planning to rework a few things here before going on. There's a few on-site myths/history that I have forgotten to incorporate here, and a few that I came up with myself that need to be placed in and (hopefully) given your comments/approval. I'll get on that soon, but don't feel like you have to rush to get comments. Keeping yourself away from the computer for time with family is a good thing. :)

And one last thing about those myths I came up with myself: I wrote out longer versions of them, though they still are sitting in my comp as I put the finishing touches on them, and I think I will post them in the library once I have revamped this timeline. Once again, thanks!

@Judy: Vacation time I guess is indeed a phenomenon. See, how often do you hear on the Forum: Ah, I only need to finish these exams, and then I've holidays and will do this and that. Guess what: People realize that they have holidays once they arrive! lol And there's actually nothing wrong with that I'd say... You're expected to have a good time, Judy, so do your duty! ;)

Files have been replaced again, but the question remains how long this will last. SMF support will have a look at the security problem.

It has been hacked. The third time in 3 days. I need to replace the changed files again (won't happen before evening) - and then see what the SMF support recommends as a strategy.

Arti, could you maybe take a look at the RPG board? I got a message from my anti-virus program and now I can't access the column on the right with the list of current threads and the shoutbox. Thankies :)

Artimidooor.. could you please add the Northern Sarvonian Tribe's map to the map menu? As you know, my mouse over does not work :( I could't find it right now, though I know it does exist somewhere.
