Arts comments in yellow, Alysse's in orange. Now to finish the 2nd half of the fauna, do resources, and history, and finish up the west range!
I'm on the home stretch :)

I saw your shout

Fauna

If the variety of plant life in the Rimmerins Ring seems astonishing, the fauna is only more so. From domestic pets to wild predators, the Rimmerins Ring is a universe (universe? Whats this crackpot on about?)  in and of itself, home to hundreds of individual species of animal (Hundreds? Then why do you only mentioned 4? Drop more names etc.) .

Many of the animal species are named plainly enough, embracing the Rimmerins name somewhere in there own. Thus the Rimrunner Terrier, the Rimmerin Bear, the Rimmerins Blackhog, and the Rimmilch Cow. Though these beasts live in very different regions of the Ring, they all share a common nomenclature- symbolic, perhaps, of the Ring itself. A great many facets coming together, all connected by the mountains themselves (What are the facets? I presume you mean conventions amongst the Fauna [otherwise it would be irelevant]. Would it be similar in essence to say....how the Kazai of Morchan have reverse-expectations [Giant Bunnies, Pygmy Elephants etc.]...What groups them together? Its easier to be as vauge as possible between links not to limit choices of yourself and others in the future!).

The Rimrunner Terrier is only very rarely found in the wild. A domestic breed, the Rimrunner can be found most prevalently in Onved, though they can be spotted throughout the Resting Shepherd range, which shadows Onved. (This it? Whoever wrote that entry would surely be greatly displeased at how little you have to say about it grin!)

The Rimmilch Cow, like the Rimrunner, is mainly a domestic animal. Unlike the dog, however, the cow is found throughout the Ring with equal commonality. Everyone, from Eyelians to Strongpicks (Who the hell are the Eyelians and Strongpicks? What do they do?) appreciates the sweet meat of a Rimmilch cow, as well as the delicious Milch cheese its milch provides.

The Rimmerins Blackhog and the Rimmerin Bear share two things in common- a nasty temper, and a home in the North Range. However, the two have very adaptations to the harsh environment of the North- while the Rimmerins Bears in the upper reaches of the Teeth are massive, and every bit as powerful as an Ogre, the Runnerhogs (as the variety found in the Bear’s habitat is named) have become small and fast, all the better to escape predators like the Bear.

Talk more about these creatures boy! They must exemplify something important if they have been selected out of the aforementioned hundreds! You could talk about the Rimmerins in general, trends in certain ranges, specifically important animals to the ecosystems, creatures that have great usage to the Ring's inhabitants, creatures of myth, creatures that used to be there! Anything that comes to mind!

Hope this is helpful,

Decipher

Thanks Deci :) I'm not quite done here, I still have some assorted lizards and birds to throw in, but I thought it was best to ask a zoophile on the zoology- and I hopr to take the passion you've got for animal in Santharia, and use it here. A tip o' the hat, and an add o' the aura for an inspirational edit!

Hi Nsiki,

As I think I mentioned before, it would be better to just concentrate on what actually lives on the Ring mountains, or at least what is inside them.  Small, vaguely associated things like this just add to the needed length and complexity of your work.  You could avoid it by saying something like "many other races live in Sanguia, some even bordering its exterior, but these are covered elsewhere in this compendium".

Ok, the south is next:

The Southern Rimmerins Ring ("The Tomo")
The South range, which begins approximately at the Rusty Kettle Springs, is where many enter into the Ring’s interior to visit New-Santhala, coming from Manthrian towns like Chrondra or Marcogg. Protected by the Wings Warden, the south entrance is home to many Eyelians, primarily of the Yourth clan. Here there are many rocky crags, as well as dense forests, for gryphs to fly and Eyelians to dwell. Of course, the dense forests also prove convenient spots for highwaymen and bandits to ambush the many rich nobles and trade caravans that pass through the area.

The South range, despite the dangers it possesses, is the most inhabited range of the four, as well as its most diverse. From the dwarves of the Urataroon Tradegrounds, to the men in Syhron and the Steadstone quarry, to the Eyelians of the Wings Warden and the Tomo’ga’ag villages, there are more races found in the South range then any place else in Sanguia, but for New-Santhala itself. For this reason, the South is named Tomo, or “World” in the Eyelian language, which still is very prevalent in this region, be it in people's names or topographical references.

The South is also remarkable for its fractured nature. Rather than being one stretching range, like the other three, the Tomo is really several mountain ranges, overlapping each other. In the South, you have the Boar’s Teeth, The Manticore Heights, the Great Shingar, and the Sierra of Santhros.

The Great Shingar
The Great Shingar is known far and wide as a haven for said cats. It is told that many, many years ago, when the city of Santhala was founded for the first time before it got destroyed later, a shingar wild cat led the founder through the Rimmerins Ring (Here you need to rephrase things for sure, because Santhala was, I think, more or less founded by Santhros, as he connected a bunch of settlements in this central region. This can't really be anywhere to found on the site, however. And before Santhros it surely wasn't called "Santhala". Maybe one of the central settlements in the Rimmerins Ring is about what you're talking here. Needs to be specified a bit better.). The lonely Serphelorian followed the cat for three days, without food or water, until  the shingar brought him to the base of the mountains. Here, the nomad found a glut of water, game, and berries. He set down shop here (You mean he made a shop there or something? Don't get this.), and years later, he was joined in the settlement of Santhala. (Somewhat unclear.)

The mountains themselves are woody, with poor, rocky soil. As such, the mountains themselves offer no great source of food, unless one were a culinary expert with evergreen bark. As such, there are very few settlements here, leaving the cats a chance to roam in peace. However, the shingar of the region have not always been left to their own ends. Once, when the Serphelorians roamed the Rimmerins, they would travel here to kill the cats as a rite of passage.

Manticore Heights
The Manticore Heights are so named because of the rumored manticore population living in their depths. Though none have been seen in ages, there are great tales, speaking of battles between gryphriders and manticores dueling in the skies above the mountains and valleys of the Rimmerins Ring. In fact, it is said the Wings Warden was built here originally to defend the residents of New-Santhala against said manticores, much as the Rangwer Warden was constructed to fight off ogres. This, however, most likely is just a nice story the locals enjoy to tell, as manticore myths belong pretty much into the time of the War of the Chosen. The Eyelians, who have close relationships to beasts, however tell their story to passing travellers as if there is no doubt about manticores inhabiting these Heights.

The Manticore Heights are also known for the Rusty Kettle Springs, which are filled with a special sediment. If one traces a pan through the river here, they may find gold at the bottom! Because of this, crowds of Santharians used to travel here during the early centuries of the kingdom (It's always good to anchor things a bit in history, so that it just doesn't stay a vague idea somewhere, somtime.) to seek the precious metal. However, the settlers soon became too copious, and the Eyelians of the Wings Warden insisted upon their departure, as the sometimes rowdy prospectors were beginning to interfere with the Warden’s duties. They left as quickly as they came, leaving behind a superfluity of artifacts - the most common being kettles that would rust in the river and rain. (Woo-hoo! Santharia's very own gold rush!)

The Boar’s Teeth
Just south of the Manticore Heights, one will find the Boar’s Teeth. The Boar’s Teeth has one of the highest Thergerim populations anywhere east of the Thaehelvil. Here one finds the Urtaroon (lit. "Good, Tall Home") Tradegrounds, on the shores of Berzilhon Lake. The Urtaroon is where the dwarves convene for annual meetings on Rimmerins trade and mining policies, and is one of the largest Thergerim settlements in Eastern Sanguia.

The Boar’s Teeth is also home to the Steadstone Quarry, where the Thergerim mine for great quantities of iron and stone.

The Sierra of Santhros (Isn't "Sierra" a Spanish word? Doesn't fit very well in the Santharian setting methinks)
The Sierra parallels the Manticore Heights, and acts as a natural barrier to the Wings Warden.  Here in the Raff Range, one finds multitudes of gryphs, and many of their nesting grounds are found here. The only larger population of the great birds is in the North Range, where they tend to grow a bit larger. The Sierra of Santhros contains the highly notable Dungeon of Raff (or "Rough", or "Wrath" some say in their local, maybe unlearned variations of that name)- here is the notorious prison of Southern Santharia, where many orcs were once brought to be interrogated and tortured during the Third Sarvonian War (That's the only time that orcs made it there methinks.). Today, the most dangerous, impossible to rehabilitate, prisoners are kept, and under constant lock and key by an elite guard of Eyelians.

Bordering the Sierra is the Vezash Plains, where many small Eyelian villages are located. The Plains are encircled by trade routes going into the mountains, a happy coincidence that makes the villagers here well fed and quite content. The people of the Plains Villages are known for their prowess in matters of philosophy, cattle-raising, and foridus-growing.

Another alternative name that comes to mind for the south could be "The Beastlands", as we have shingar here, manticores, gryphs, and that's also why so many Eyelians have chosen this region to live in, right?

Ah- I suppose you would tend to see Sierra being Spanish- there's about three Sierras in the US, I tend to just adopt it as American English :P Forgot about the rest of the world's mindset....
And ya, I liked the gold rush idea too, it was the first thing that popped into my head when I saw the name :)

duh, Nsiki... I smacked my forehead when I read that, should've thought of that first :P
Thanks for the edit Art- if you wouldn't mind though, could you skip the West for now? I still have a substantial amount of fleshing out to do down there. However, the people section is finished, methinks :)
Thanks again, Aura +1

Ok, let's continue with Location and People:

Location.
The Rimmerins Ring is located in central Santharian province of Sanguia. Also known as “The Heartland”, the Ring is essentially in the middle of the Santharian kingdom, wrapping around the capital city, New-Santhala, forming a natural protection for the most important town south of the Tandalas. Access is only possible through a few heavily guarded roads leading through the famous Ring.

The Rimmerins Ring is bordered by several elven forests, including the Zeiphyr, the Quallian, the Almatar Forest, and the Autrian Woods. The Anios Gap, remnant of one of the most memorable earthquakes in Santharian history, is to the North West, and intersects with the Ring’s Western Range. The Ring is located just north of the Elverground, and the eastern range just barely touches the Mithral Mountains.

People.
The Rimmerins Ring is home to nearly every race known to Caelereth - if they do not naturally inhabit the Ring, at least a small enclave can be found in the capital, or one of the hamlets in the area. For instance, orcs, nigh unheard of outside Northern Sarvonia, can be found in the hamlet of Rolyri, which they inhabit exclusively, just south and east of the Ring, and there are small colonies of displaced orcs living throughout the north range. This is just one example of the variety of people you can encounter in this region you won't meet anywhere else as likely as here. Humans, dwarves, elves, gnomes, Brownies (Brownies, due to the fact that they often suffered discrimination are the only race exempt from writing their race name in lower cases, as decreed by a Milkengradian Anactar...), and ogres live in this area as if it were the most natural thing on Caelereth. (I had to change that sentence a bit, because the fact that it was a fact had a lot of facts in it, yet didn't get quit to the point...) The races have been here for hundreds of years, and none of them aim to leave anytime soon.

In the following we try to provide a short overview on the most important races and tribes you can find within the Rimmerins Ring:

The Humans
The humans are by far the most prevalent species in the area, with two tribes (the Eyelians and the Serphelorians) being native to the region, and many other tribes inhabiting it. The Eyelians live throughout the Ring, in small settlements, primarily in the West and South. Nearly the entire Eyelian population is based in the Ring or its foothills. The Eyelians have become guardians of a sort, and often work together with the Serphelorians of the Rangwar Warden when Baal Ogre raiding parties descend from the mountaintops. In fact, the Santhran Shield’s Tavern in the village (in which village?) is owned and operated by Serphelorians, who often travel here to train with the Bear clan fighters.

More Eyelian defenders are found in the Wings Warden corridor, stretching from the Kenerun Downs into the Manticore heights. The women who live in the many tiny villages here often strive to be inducted into the legendary Order of the Wings, based in the Wings Warden itself. These Eyelians are mostly of the Yourth clan, though the Wings Warden is known to have brought Eyelians of various clans together.

However, the Serphelorians are still the true guardians of the Rimmerins. After all, they are known far and wide as the Wardens! These warrior women are seen all throughout the Ring, protecting those who need protection, and drinking all the ale that needs drinking! Perhaps the most important Serphelorian dwelling is the town of Clymosis, just south of the Rangwar Warden. The Order of Seyella, also known as the "Seyelite Army" is based here, giving good reason why many choose to live so close to the north. When asked if one ancient Proudman feared to live in Onved, so close to the Baal Ogre homeland, he responded thusly: “T’ain’t no thing to be feared of up here but the Seyelites. And dey’re on our side!”

Now, a Proudman may have been the source of the above quote, though Proudmen are certainly not the only humans found in the Ring. Most any type of Santharian men can be found in the Ring, generally in the Eastern half. Be they denizens of the capital, or its sister city, Onved, humans have found the Ring to be an excellent source for trade, commerce, agriculture, and adventure, especially as sticking close to the capital in order to grab arising opportunities can never be wrong. The several human tribes have coexisted and interbred, forming the contemporary Rimmerins man - a human taking the features of many human tribes, often holding very little similarity to the next Rimmerin.

The Dwarves. (Thergerim is the dwarven expression, shouldn't be used as the main reference in a caption.)
While dwarves are a common enough sight in parts of the Rimmerins Ring, they are nowhere near as prevalent as humans. However, there is one tribe native to the Rimmerins, and the Thergerim have set up permanent shop (?) throughout the East Ring, and in the very easternmost tip of the south. The Thergerim structures here were built just after the unification of the races, when King Santhros finally fulfilled a centuries-old treaty that allowed the Thergerim to mine in the Ring, in exchange for their aid in battle. With the newly granted mining rights, the major Santharian clans such as the Mitharim, Boltgrumms, Tenthrums, and Thrumgolz immigrated to the Rimmerins Ring, converging in the east. (Paragraph break.)

Since the immigration, the four Thergerim tribes have established the Urtaroon Tradegrounds, where a council of elder Thergerim meets once every five years to discuss matters of commerce and mining. RusUntrum, Tyr Huntung, and Galki Thushon are the three principle centers of industry for the dwarves in the Ring, and the Silverrock Warden is the guard tower from which the Silverrock Order (or, in the Thergerim, StalTrum Shofim) operates, protecting both Thergerim interests and human inhabitants in the Rimmerins Ring.

Besides this agglomeration of Thergerim in the East, here is also a tribe of Thergerim native to the Ring itself. The Tenthrums, also known as the Strongpick clan, are based in and around Kor Donion, in the West. Much trade exists between them and the Brownies, and dwarf-Brownie trade routes exist throughout the Rimmerins Foothills. Perhaps the best known Tenthrum settlement, besides Kor Donion itself, is Mount PocRotrum, or "Mount FalseTallrock", in the Southwest area of the Rimmerins Ring. The mountain and its environs are home to several hundred brown druids, the vast majority of which are Strongpick Dwarves.

(I assume you have th ok from Judy on your dwarven stuff here, as she's Mistress of the Dwarves. To me personally this all sounds pretty much ok.)

Other Races.
As has been mentioned already, there are several further examples of other races living permanently in the Ring, so the occasional elf or gnome may be seen, and one shouldn't be surprised to run into one in this area.

In addition to these more dispersed liiving folks, there are roughly a hundred Baal Ogres holed up in the North Range, and there are a great many LLaoihrr Brownies in the western foothills, mainly in their homeland, the Vale of Brownies. In addition, there is a significant population of orcs in and around the Ring, a blending of several enslaved or diasporic tribes. These tribes convereged in the Ter Oc, or "Rimmerins Orc", famed for their dedication to hard labor, as well as a generally surly outlook on life.

I would say that from the Other Races you mention the Brownies could use an own paragraph here, because they are living there in huge quantities, so this is really something major. The rest is described pretty well, I think the whole picture with Eyelian and Sephelorian protectors of the Ring fits nicely here, so it's great to see that the ring really filled with tribes that have been developed, and it fits together! Nice work so far, Nsiki! :D  thumbup

I still don't think Keekoo is the best figure of legend for a Eyelian myth to be honest Nsiki.  As I said before, he lived in Marcogg and the Auturian Woods, far from the Eyelians.  Also he's more a historical character than a mythical one - the deeds he performed may be exaggerated/embellished but there are surprisingly good accounts of his life.  It just seems weird to have such an improbable myth about a character who is so historical.  Greybark might work better - he is famous and historical, but he did lead a Brownie army out of the Vale to fight in Carmalad, so a myth about him meeting Eyelians on the way might have grown up once the Eyelians and Vale Brownies started to be on better terms?  Or Gebl is a great folklore figure with many myths surrounding him - an improbable myth about him would be more likely.

I'm not sure it's possible to hide a whole Vale - the exact location of the Council Tree might be unknown, but I'm sure they do know there is a Valley there - it's marked on all the maps as the "vale of Brownies" after all ;).

Anyway, just got to finish off some uni work and hand it in and then hopefully I'll be back to read through the whole thing - looking forward to it!

Ah, too bad that internet is so restricted in China, Ferra. Can't be much fun surfing the web that way if Big Brother's watching you... Hope you enjoy your stay nevertheless!

Hi, dear Arti and other developers!

It just crossed my mind that this information might be useful to you.

Cheers
