Just a basic note on this one for now: I'm trying something new once again with Santhworld in the long run, this time the plan is to tell a short mystery/somewhat horror story (perhaps? who knows...) the interactive way. You'll see what I mean when you'll play/read it, but I don't want to give away anything right now.

The thing will be pretty small and short, and I consider doing it with screenshots actually of 3d pictures of fan missions from Thief 3, run through a painting filter, with a few Santharian stuff added here and there. This Thief 3 screens usage would of course also be mentioned in the "credits". The point is this that the atmosphere can be captured brilliantly with these pictures, and I can shoot the perspectives I need them to be in, and I can illustrate every room that way, enriching it all with text and sound effects. It also fits very well in style and should be good enough for a little suspenseful story.

There's lots of work to do, and writing it definitely poses a serious challenge aside from the technical aspects of its realization, so it will take a while until it takes concrete shape. Just wanted to bring this up for now to keep you informed what I'm up to.

Sounds interesting.  As I have ashamedly not contributed to Santhworld, if there is somnething I can do here as far as writing goes, let me know, and I shall see what I can do.

Cool, that sounds very exciting - if this writing is as good as the rest of the other horror/mystery things youve done, it'll be great :)

No special writing contribution necessary at this one, Altario, because it's not overly complex, and it's just a story I have to tell myself, as I said it's basically just a tale and not a game as such. Would also spoil the fun if you want to enjoy the outcome whenever it makes it on the site... lol

What I'll definitely need to make the whole thing work are the right sound effects and perhaps even an eerie ambience theme, so I'll have to hunt something down from soundsnap.com - that especially could take quite some time.

Just a note: Worked most of the weekend on this one and got 90% of the screenshots I was looking for already prepared. So while there's still some preparation work that needs to be done here and there I'm already into realizing the story now, searching for and placing the necessary sound effects, so this is a work on all levels. Even a short story will take its time to reach a certain perfection, so the time spent with getting all the components in place must be invested. I still have to spend a few more days to get the key things done, then let it simmer for a while to get a few more ideas in.

Faugar offered to help with getting a key scene or two illustrated, we'll see. And if we're lucky we get allowance to use atmospheric T2X music here and there (T2X is a fantastic fan extension of Thief II), so if all falls into place we've got some cool ingredients methinks.

Just got the reply I needed back from the T2X guys regarding the usage of their musics: They typically don't allow any T2X custom material to permeate into other projects, but they make an exception in this case, so the background ambience sound carpet is perfect now :)

While Faugar also said he'd like to contribute with some pictures I haven't heard from him since my last mail regarding that matter, so I guess I'll conclude the matter without him now as I've progressed with it pretty well - I have to be more inventive now in certain respects, but I think it should be under control.

Progress so far: ca. 77.42%, so I'll try to push the project towards the end within the next days.

I'm pushing towards 90% right now, but the last things are the most difficult.

I'm always open for new modules, all that is required is a little creativity. Modules don't need to be overly complex, however. And I hope that I can show with this one BTW that you can tell just a story using the Santhworld engine, and that the interactive aspect makes things much more tangible than you could ever do by just writing the tale down. :)

Well, remember that ideas need to be thought through, they need to be ripe for integration - then it will be a pleasure to pretty it.

That's the same thing as with the Rimmerins Mountains, and I've heard rumours that you still haven't done your homework there, Nsiki. Erm... Could you check again if you've really addressed everything there, otherwise you might still get a decent hammering instead of a site update, you know... hammer
