It looks great. Very Roman, or maybe Greek. Perhaps one of the castles built by the crusaders. A little decoration could look nice, but don't overdo it. Maybe a banner with his coat of arms and a freestanding wrought iron torch holder?

I'm adding a nitpick. The sword looks like it's coming out on a diagonal from the scabbard, like it's twisted towards the person painting/looking at the knight.

It also looks like he's standing out in front of a pre-rendered scene, like old video games. It could just be me though.

That being the said, I like the detail on his scabbard and the chainmail has lost some of it's sweater qualities. I like the detail on the columns and the rest of the background there.

I do like that background better, actually.

And yes, Seeker, we XX chromosome types think Bloom is yummy too, though I personally thought he was even sexier as an elf.  I was nuts about Legolas a LONG time before the movie came out, and I must say casting Bloom as him didn't remedy that situation. :D

I think part of it is the whole "quiet, sensitive, yet tough" thing. That's why girls like dumb yuppy goth poets with their dads paying all their bills and their brand new car and laptop whining about how life is so terrible in poems that have neither rhyme rhythm or reason. (Sorry, I guess I feel more strongly about this than I thought.)

The second background might fit better to our guy here, yup, and having the first background for a village would be great as well :) I'd only make sure that the indoors background gets a lot of shadows and stuff added, so that it is much darker. The stairs are really cool, but the mood of the picture could be much more effective in a darker environment I'd suggest. Plus, darkening pictures and adding shadows is always good for hiding smaller deficiencies of pictures while at the same time creating atmosphere :D

I personally like the airy and open feel this has, but I know a lot of people like things dark.

Personally, I think his sword and belt look ok as they are.  buck

Seriously though, to be slightly 'controversial' (for a change), how about having the village burning? Maybe add a scattering of dead bodies around? You could have the river 'running red with the blood of the fallen'.
Add some blood smears/splashes to his tunic and face. Perhaps show him wiping his sword?

Just a thought.

Use the force, Luke.

And if that doesn't work, try switching it off and back on again.

So, um, just  how would "controversial" be a change for you, Tharoc?

@second background:  I like the idea of darker, but I think you need to go for grubbier, too.  Cobwebs in the corners, damp dripping down the wall, maybe a couple of cracked stones, perhaps a rat hole in the wall behind him, (with a rat peeking out?) Stuff like that.  It just looks too clean.

Files have been replaced again, but the question remains how long this will last. SMF support will have a look at the security problem.

It has been hacked. The third time in 3 days. I need to replace the changed files again (won't happen before evening) - and then see what the SMF support recommends as a strategy.

Arti, could you maybe take a look at the RPG board? I got a message from my anti-virus program and now I can't access the column on the right with the list of current threads and the shoutbox. Thankies :)
