Talia's comments and unfinished ideas on hobbits and their food intergrated...

I'm fine with what you have now, Jenna. Just one thing - you are from the Silvermarshes, right? So the center of your live is there -  otherwise I can't follow what you have written there...

However, despite the scale and length of the Alinian contest far less attend. This is mostly because it is a younger, less well-known festival and the Dogodan shire is nowhere near as central as the Silvermarshes, so there are little to no representants of other races.

If the Silvermarshes are central, then New Santhala is on the edge of the civilized area?  ;) (Northern Sarvonia doesn't count!  grin

And it should be "Alianian" Contest...

I don't know, if "months" are necessary to travel there, have to look into this, but I assume the cooks from far away have to buy most ingredients at the place of the contest, maybe they bring with them just certain spices or dried stuff, a Taenish egg or flour should be available everywhere.

Looking forward to the contest entry.

And a last thing - it doesn't serve five to six humans, just four ;) - but all liked it well!

I'll modify that right away Talia.

For the record, I'm from the Dogodan shire. Well, mostly Dogodan with a dash of human  ;)

Wow, you actually made the receipit! I'm honured and very glad you liked it  :) The real-world recipies I've based my version off do not actually give a specific temperature, and I can't find (or remember) my scribbled notes on what setting I used. When I do I'll be sure to post them.

Oh, it was moderate hot to hot, and it took about 40 minutes :) Depends a bit on how deep the pie-form is I suppose.

Hi Jenna!

Praises from me! This is a fine piece of hobbitology, and mouth watering to read. I like the idea with the contests. Reading of those, a crime story was beginning to form in my head, of an ambitious hobbit who contrives to spoil the pie of his chief rival for first prize. A brave hobbitling detective, however, manages to find out the villain ...

Ah well... Anyway, well done!

I noticed some very few spelling issues:

(1) It's receipt, without the extra "i" (not 'receipit). This occurs several times in the text - best to change via a word processor with an automatic replacement function, I guess.

(2) When you refer to "All-Year Pie" as a proper name, I think that "Pie" should be spelled with a capital P throughout your text.

(3) Origin/Importance Section, last paragraph but one:

Poorer folk, and dwarves, have taken to calling any pies they fill with leftover scraps ‘halfling pies’ even though they bear little resemblance to true hobbit pies,

(4) And the paragraph after that:
... even more so than its Helmondshire predecessor ...

(there shouldn't be an apostrophe in 'its' here)

Thanks for reading, Shabakuk! I'll get those errors fixed right away.

Now that sounds like an excellent story! Perhaps when I get to write a seperate entry on the contests, such a tale could be written by one who's willing to... ;)

And here's a picture of some real-life All-Year Pie I made...

I didn't roll out a case for this pie, only a lid, hence the filling being served in a heap beside the pastry, not beneath it.

Thankyou very much Artimidor  :) Wow, my first entry... I'm excited.
My next planned work- Hob-Hounds. Like a cael hounds, only the size of a rimrunner.

I don't think it's cheesy at all ... unless of course a version of it has cheese in it :D
