Hi,

There are a number of settlements that are appearing on the Peninsula of Iol map ... what race/tribe would live there? I notice reference is made of the Ice Elves ... but I've also seen them over on Cyhalloi as well.

I'm just wanting to know for the purposes of cross referencing for the Oxen Pack Mount entry ... that's all :D

Thanks for any advice,

Dek

The Icelands coast settlements are the Ice Tribes.

The ones at the penninsula itself though aren't really developed. The ones on the tip at least are elves, as mentioned in the Forest of Contamar entry, the Evathonrhim. I believe those are the Ice Elves mentioned (Ice Elves aren't just in Cyhalloi), but I don't know how much of the settlements there are for those elves. It's at least the ones around Contamar, but could be the other ones too.

Some of the settlements might also be ruins, as there used to be but no longer is an empire up there.

*Edit* Reading some old posts about Iol on the dev board, there might be some Ice Tribes living there in addition to the northern Ice Elves (different from the batch on the Icelands Coast). But otherwise there really isn't any info.

Yes, there is some question of who or what is up there.  I am in the process of filling in some of the blanks, possibly with Talia's help, as a foil to the Remusians, and as human allies to the dark army that ravaged the land during the Third Sarvonian War.

My initial ideas and discussion can be found here.

The Iol peninsula can be pretty much whatever you need it to be. As Altario is doing, he is making it so that some humans live up there. One could spread the Ice Elves out more if needed or develop some new tribe/clan somehow. That's what is nice about the North is that its wide open for development, much as how Caael'heroth is for me.  heart

As for human allies in the Third Sarvonian War...that may impact my development of Caael'heroth. Alot of my development background comes from that conflict such as Osthemangar and the Kaaer tribe. Human involvement before the dark armies swept south would change things alot. Let's consider that carefully.

No, I would not want to live in a world without dragons, as I would not want to live in a world without magic, for that is a world without mystery, and that is a world without faith. And that, I fear, for any reasoning, conscious being, would be the cruelest trick of all.

Of course.  :)  Just was looking at what was already in print.  Was not looking to change history, just piggyback a history of another people in there.

Although...I would be completely open to having Ice Tribe humans become slaves or migrate to Caael'heroth after the Third Sarvonian War. That could possibly lead to another source of human bloodline for the orcs to eventually enslave later on and add to the Kaaer'dar'shin family tree. In other words, the half-orcs could be descended from the Kuglimz and Ice Tribe humans... evil

I'm just saying that adding humans to the mix during this time frame would create alot of revision in alot of areas...but if it somehow affects my tribe in a different way, by adding something new to the culture, then I am all for it.  thumbup

It looks like Dek asked this question a long time ago and I forgot about it.

Who the heck lives on Iol?

What we know:

1. The Contamar Forest on the northern tip is inhabited by the Evathonrhim elves.

2. The Antislar and Remusians border Iol to the south.

3. All the settlements on the map have human sounding names.

4. Changing existing maps is not easy to do.

Proposals:

1. Expand the Ice Tribes west to Iol (do not move Remusians and Antislar)

2. Expand the Remusians and Antislar more north and giving them Iol.

Wild Idea: 3. Completely abandon Iol into a wasteland that used to be inhabited, but perhaps a massive blizzard long ago buried and froze the peninsula leaving only ruins. The surviving Ice Tribes moved east and south to settle. So the currently named cities on the map are uninhabited frozen ruins. Perhaps at one point the humans and Evathonrhim were allies and lived among each other explaining the human sounding settlemens around Contamar.[/list]

Not only that, most of the names seem to be in English.  Considering English generally represents Tharian...maybe they could be Tharanian or Santharian colonies?

I'm for the abandoning Iol, except for the areas already agreed on for Antislar and the Ice Elves.  My vision with the Antislar was that it was large expanses of nothing.  I'd prefer wilderness.

Don't know who provided the names we've put on the Peninsula of Iol - was it you, Alt? At any rate, this map is a separate one which is not included in that detail in other map versions and I guess references on the site to any of these smaller locations are minimal. Which means: We can change things around here any way we like and update the map accordingly, that shouldn't be much of a problem.

I am in complete agreement with Alt. For the moment, Antislar and Ice Elves only.

The names have been there as long as I can remember. I suggest we remove those settlements that aren't already mentioned elsewhere and make Iol a vast wilderness (until future development comes along).

Yeah, those names were written on the wall when I moved in, so I still get my damage deposit back when I move.

Files have been replaced again, but the question remains how long this will last. SMF support will have a look at the security problem.

It has been hacked. The third time in 3 days. I need to replace the changed files again (won't happen before evening) - and then see what the SMF support recommends as a strategy.

Arti, could you maybe take a look at the RPG board? I got a message from my anti-virus program and now I can't access the column on the right with the list of current threads and the shoutbox. Thankies :)
