Any chance on a more Kyranian sounding name mayhaps, Garret?

Here, here! But good luck convincing Garret!  :P

Yeah ... convince Garret, and I'll be happy to change it :D

Anyway ... the most recent suggestions by Garret have been included. :)

Don't you just hate it when a good entry appears, and people justy naturally assume you couldn't have written it? buck

I don't think anyone's assuming I didn't write it, Alt :)

A variety of people have requested that the name of the entry be changed from disks to something that is considered by some to be less boring.

Garret, as the person who wrote the current version of the Kyranian men entry, asked me to keep the name the same as it was in the Kyranian men entry ... which was Disks.

As a result, if people want it to be changed, they'll need to convince Garret on that point. If that happens, I'll happily change the entry

As I previously said, I particularly dislike diskel and discys.

The name came from just callin it as it is. Ya take disks and throw them, hence disks. The real life version is called Washers cause they use Washer from a hardware store. It may sound boring, but the point was for it to be a simple game that really interests a group of people, yet outsiders don't quite understand it or feel drawn to it. *shrugs*

The only thing I could think of naming otherwise that would work, would be to take the last name of whoever first game up with it. The problem being is that it wouldn't have lasted long, in my mind, with the way I set the Kyranians up. Other names lasted, though like their cattle, it'd just be the Longhorn to most Kyranian farmers. At some point in time, I imagine someone mighta said, "Let's play the game with those disks" and it woulda stuck.

Just my thought process for keeping the game named as it is. Boring or not, in my mind it fits with everything I'm trying to create (if things settle down and I'm inspired to start developing again). *shrugs*

Has anyone heard of Darts?  A simple game named after a famous... er... no, ...named after the intriguing... er... no.... uhm... well, I guess it's named after the thing you throw.  How boring!  That will never stick!  Oh wait, Wiki seems to say it has been around since bow and arrow times.  Who'da thunk it.

Maybe we should rethink this whole name thing.  Perhaps simple soldiers just might have a simple name for a simple game.  Can it really be that simple?  rolleyes

Exactly. Someone should have told the inventor of darts to come up with a more imaginative name!

Thanks Alt. I'd type more, but I shouldn't be typing this. I'm supposed to be running out the door in less than 40mins and still munchin on my pepperoni hot pocket for breakfast. Time goes way too quickly in the mornings.

Just wanna say, that I'd prefer to have the name stay as it is ... *shrugs*

Anyways, Santh is gonna make me late for work if I stick around  buck

Ok then, marked for integration now! thumbup The name change was basically a suggestion, not a requirement.

P.S. As for darts, Azhira - that one has tribe and dynasty all included, I'm sure. Probably French in origin, invented by a nobleman of the D'Artagnon family back in the days. Thus it was a game "of the D'Artagnons", translated from French, short: "D'Arts". Pretty obvious methinks :)

Just on the name front...

Running - Because you run;
Javelin - Because you throw a javelin;
Shot-put - Because you throw a shot put;
Long-jump - Because you're doing a long jump;
High-jump - Because you're doing a high jump;
Football - Because you're using your foot on a ball.;
Darts (as mentioned) - Because you throw darts;
Raquets - Because you use a raquet;

But:

Cricket - ?
Tennis - ?
Probably others - ?

actually ... as I was reminded constantly through my school days, if you throw the shot put you suffer a foul in that sport. ... I quite frequently got fouls in it. :(

You actually 'put' the 'shot' which is where it gets the name from.  thumbup

And with relation to cricket ... This page was quite interesting to read, I thought. :D

You're quite right, I have been told (often) that I'll break my wrist if I "throw" it, although I also think it's a bit of a false distinction myself...

Files have been replaced again, but the question remains how long this will last. SMF support will have a look at the security problem.

It has been hacked. The third time in 3 days. I need to replace the changed files again (won't happen before evening) - and then see what the SMF support recommends as a strategy.
