Well here's my first entry, it's the revamp of The Alth'tiert, Azhira was working on it, but passed it to me since I was in need. Hurray for kindness!

Edited-Now shows colour on the main stuff I worked on.  I left out myth, because I believe the Alth'tiert fits the description of one of the minor plants that are...just there.

Edited Again-Now has Myth and more reproduction.
Edited Once More-Changed couple of things, shows a bit more info and myth is different.

The Alth’tiert (Yellow Plant)
Category: Misc./Others

Basic Overview- The Alth’tiert is a large plant commonly found around the vents of volcanoes in the Celeste Mountains. The name Alth’tiert, Kuglimz'seitre for "Yellow Plant," derives from the colour of the leaves and the dye they produce.  The Alth’tiert is notable for its reproductive cycle. This plant does not fertilize through insects like the malise that carry pollen from plant to plant; instead, the mature Alth'tiert burst open when a nearby vent becomes too hot, releasing the pollen into the air to float to other plants. It is used for trade and dye by the Fird’gormz, a human Kuglimz tribe residing in the mountains in Northern Sarvonia.

Appearance-The Alth’tiert grows  to a height and width of about ½ a ped . It has a shallow root system that spreads out in a circle. This allows it to get as much nutrition from the topsoil as possible in its harsh environment. It has long leaves that are a finger’s length at their widest, and a usually a fore long. The plant’s appearance give it its name, the Yellow Plant, the leaves have dark yellow streaks throughout, with a darker stripe of yellow running down the middle of its long leaves. The unique colouring is thought to  arise from the plants constant exposure to the brimstone reek  wafting out from the volcanoes. The leaves are actually very thick, so as to give it a natural protection from any foraging animals. There is no observable stalk for the leaves to attach themselves to; rather they all tend to come together in a massed jumble at the base of the plant. The plant lacks any flowers, and only the leaves grow from the base.

Territory- Alth’tiert plants are found in volcanic areas, especially in the Celeste Mountains at the southwest of Northern Sarvonia. They do not grow in masses, but seem to cluster around vents leading directly to the heart of the volcanoes.

Usages-The Alth’tiert is a main trade item of the Fird’gormz, who trade it to the Helvet’ine. The Helvet’ine use the leaves of this plant to make a yellow dye for clothing and rugs. Special Helvet’ine Dyers begin by soaking the leaves in water for a few hours, and boiling the enlarged leaf with a small amount of water, the yellow juices of the plant are boiled out. When egg yolk is added, it will give the mixture a little more hold. It is then set out for several hours, and a rich golden dye is thus formed from it. There are no other known uses for the plant.

Reproduction- The reproduction process differs from other plants. As these plants grow near volcanic vents, they are constantly subject to sudden fluctuations in heat. When the heat reaches higher temperatures, older plants (which are not as resistant to these temperature changes) will burst open. Pollen is stored at the base of the plant, so when it explodes, this pollen is released and drifts over the volcano to other plants. In order for a new plant to form, the ground must be heated more or less constantly, which is why most of these plants are found around vents of volcanoes. The Alth’tiert plants usually live up to a year.

The Alth’tiert will reproduce three out of the four seasons. Most of the plants survive the bitter cold of the Northern Sarvonian winter. The Alth’tiert will force itself into a hibernation, a type of sleep, where it will produce no pollen, but has a higher chance of surviving than normal in the harsh winter.  During summer, the reproduction rates of the plants nearly double compared to the fall or spring, the higher temperature weakening the resistance of the base of the plant and allowing for lower temperatures from the vents to force the Alth’tiert to erupt.

Myth/Lore- In the Kuglimz tradition, the colour yellow (or gold) is dedicated to Sur’tyan, the All-Father.  By dyeing patterns in their clothes, the Helvet’ine men show their respect to All-Father.  The women usually do not dye their clothes with the gold dye, although there is no law or rule prohibiting it, but it is more socially acceptable to display the colours of the All-Mother.The Helvet’ine men wear the gold colour proudly, showing their love and honour for Sur’tyan.

A good start!  :)

I've not the time to go over it, just wanted to say, that it would be good, if you coloured what you have actually added yourself. And go and read some other plant entries, so you get a feeling what is needed.

Hi Agran,

An interesting plant you've got here. I've given you an Aura for the way you've asked questions and your enthusiasm for Santharia. :)

As Talia said, you've made a great start here!

I've got a few comments here for you.

I think you might find you need a bit more in your overview ... for example ... who/what are the Fird'gormz? Where are the Fird'gormz located? The overview really needs to grab our attention ... so the fact that it grows near volcanoes would be something that would grab my attention. I generally wait until I write (at least the notes) the rest of my entry before doing the overview.

Appearance - it reads well to me overall. Do they call sulphur sulpher in this world? That question is for someone else with more knowledge than me about such things :)

It is preferred that we use the UK version of spelling English here in Santharia rather than the US version, which means 'u's in colour and such words.

Territory ... maybe see if there are other volcanoes in Caelereth (the disk on which which we are writing) ... For example, as a start, Heckra is a volcano in Vardynn Province of Santharia. Heckra is located just north of the Goltherlon Forest. You 'might' want to mention that in your entry as another place that your plant is located. The Rahaz-dath Desert also has a Volcano in it ... take a look at that page and consider that as another possible location. You might also consider asking someone from Nybelmar if there are any volcanoes over there. Doing this will also mean that you can expand on your usage section if you so desire.

Usage ... anything specific that is dyed with it? Maybe it is also used as a paint or something for ceremonies? Could it also be used in cooking? Apart from that, this section is well done

Reproduction ... reads well to me ... and the unique way that the plant has of reproduction could be mentioned in the overview as a way to capture the reader's attention.

For example

'The Alth’tiert (Yellow Plant) is found growing on volcanoes throughout Caelereth. Old plants explode, spreading pollen across the volcano and new Alth'tiert form where the pollen hits ground that is constantly heated. The Yellow Plant is an important trade item of the Fird'gormz, and is commonly used to make a thick, yellow dye. Other groups such as the ______, the ______ and the _____, use it for cooking and painting.'

Feel free to use any, all or none of that as you see fit, Agran.

Finally, it would be good if you could try to come up with a Myth/Lore for this great plant. I know it is optional, but it is a nice way to round them off. Azhira is normally pretty good for ideas on myths/lores for entries. :D

Anyway, make sure you colour your changes. Of course, if Azhira or any of the herbarium mods disagree with what I say, follow their advice, not mine :D

Great entry! Keep on dreaming and I look forward to seeing your entry get finished and onsite.

There, think its twinked good enough for now.   Everything I did is also in colour, thanks for the criticism too.  I left out myths, considering the people who use The Alth'tiert are mainly miners, so therefore a plant is only a minor convience.

And I'll try my best with UK spelling.

Hi,

Quote
There are also reports that The Alth’tiert grows in the Norong’Sorno, the ferocious volcano of the Rahaz’Dath Desert, although it has never been closely due to the locals either not knowing of the plant, or possessing no knowledge of its use.

I'm afraid, I'm not very happy with what you wrote here. There is a word missing, right? Who are these locals, why should they not know of its usage? or the plant?

You write, it grows "in" the volcano - how that ? It is ferocious, so how could the plant survive in an eruption? Why does it here not grow near vents?

You have a strange reproduction, that is fine, but from where are the pollen coming? Describe, that they grow in the leaves or whatever you think is ok.

Agran, how many other newer plant entries (those with a date at the bottom) have you read to learn from them? I always recommend one from our Bard, look here, or any other.

And, saying it is such a common plant, therefor I don't need a myth is an excuse...

Excelent back to work! (Was hoping for more criticism so I could find out what was needed)

And your right, I guess it is an excuse.  Time for myth!

And the Alth'tiert growing in the volcano was a mistake on my part.  Well time to have some fun, I'll update later.

To keep this simpler, Agran, I would suggest keeping the plant only in Northern Sarvonia, around the Celeste volcanoes. For a first entry, it would require more research to spread it over every volcano in Caelereth. This is ok to do, but as Talia mentioned, you'd need permission from other developers to place this plant in their area. For now, keep it in the North where the Kuglimz tribe uses it.

Also, keep in mind a few things:

1. How do the Kuglimz people harvest this plant? I would create some smaller vents along the base of the volcano since trekking up the side would be hazardous.

2. Do the leaves grow all year round? Can they be harvested at any time, or only certain times of the year? This is worth mentioning if the Kuglimz rely on this as a trade item.

3. Myths are not required for any entry, but they have become common practice to have at least one. One idea for a myth is to take the origins of the plant's use as a warpaint. Who started the practice? One myth that the Kuglimz could believe is that perhaps one of their heroes of old led a battle against some orcs or dark elves a long time ago. He prayed before a volcano and was given a vision of the plant and told to use it against his enemies. The hero was confused...how can you use a plant against an orc? He noted the plant's color, a brilliant red, and how it came off on his hands. He touched his face and looked into a river and marveled how much more intimidating he looked. He developed the warpaint and used it for his warriors. When the orcs saw them, they fled in terror for the hero and his band were super scary with their warpaint.

Something like that!  thumbup

Stop!

The Kuglimz don't paint their faces! The  dye their clothes and are very apt with this, but do not use it as facial paint.

You need another myth. I'm sure Azhira will have another idea! Or do some reading up up about the Kuglimz, their gods etc. . Check, if these ones are the right tribe. They use the colour for a special ritual, you could mention it as well!

Okay, edited once again. Reproduction is longer, and now it has a myth!  Also it now only grows in the Celeste Volcanoes.

Okay, here's a quick go-through.  Comments in orange

The Alth’tiert (Yellow Plant)
Category: Misc./Others

Basic Overview-The Alth’tiert is a large plant most commonly found around the vents of volcanoes in the Celeste Mountains.   The Alth’tiert is an interesting plant due to its reproductive cycle.  Rather than animals carrying its pollen, older, less resistant plants will burst open when a nearby vent is too hot, resulting in pollen being released from the plant.  It is used by the Fird’gormz, the tribe that resides in the mountains in Northern Sarvonia, for trading with their partners, the Helvet'ines.

Appearance-The Alth’tiert grows on average to be about ½ a ped in height, and roughly equal in width. It has a shallow root system that spreads out in a circular range from the plant. This allows it to get as much nutrition from the topsoil as possible in its rough habitat. It has long leaves that are a finger’s length at their widest. The plant receives its name from its appearance, as the leaves have dark yellow streaks throughout, with a darker stripe of yellow running down the middle of its long leaves. The unique coloring is thought to be from the plants constant exposure to the sulphur (Do we have "sulphur" as an element?  I think you should say "brimstone reek" or something like that) that wafts out from the volcanoes. The leaves end in a point that is toughened, so as to give it a natural protection from any foraging animals. There is no observable stalk for the leaves to attach themselves to; rather they all tend to come together in a massed jumble at the base of the plant.

Territory-The Alth’tiert plants are found in volcanic areas and can especially be seen in the Celeste Mountains at the southwest of Northern Sarvonia. They do not grow in masses, but seem to cluster around vents that lead directly to the heart of the volcanoes.

Usages-The Alth’tiert is a main trade item of the Fird’gormz, who trade it to the Helvet’ine. The Helvet’ine use the leaves of this plant to make a yellow dye. By soaking the leaves in water for a few hours, and boiling the enlarged leaf with a small amount of water, the yellow juices of the plant are boiled out. With egg yolk is added, it will give the mixture a little more hold. It is then set out for several hours, and a rich golden dye is thus created from it.

Reproduction-The reproduction process is different than in other plants, occasionally, as the plants are located near vents, they are constantly subject to the vent’s sudden heat changes.  When the heat becomes too high, older plants (which are not as resistant) will, in a way explode.  The base of the plant serves as the storage for the pollen, so the pollen (pollen, or seeds?) is released as the plant erupts, and will be sent over the volcano.  In order for a new plant to be formed, the ground must be heated nearly the entire time, which is why most plants are found around vents of volcanoes.

The Alth’tiert will reproduce three out of the four seasons.  During the winter, most of the plants will survive.  The Alth’tiert will go dormant (or perhaps hibernate?) when it will produce no pollen, but has a higher chance of surviving than normal in harsh winter.  During summer, the reproduction rates of the plants nearly double, the higher temperature weakening the resistance of the base of the plant and allowing for lower temperatures from the vents to force the Alth’tiert to combust.

Myth/Lore-One of the reasons that the Helvet’ines are so obsessed with buying the Alth’tiert is that of the oral tale of one of the Vir’togz.  The hunter that led the Helvet’ines to their new home was said to wear a fur cape that was dyed pure gold.  The Helvet’ines, in order to honour the Vir’togz, thus dye their clothes with the Alth’tiert as much as possible, to show their respect to the great hunter.

Actually, the colour yellow/gold is dedicated to the god Sur'tyan, the All-Father, and so this plant might well be considered sacred to the Kuglimz.  Yellow is the traditional colour worn by a bridegroom in Kuglimz culture, so generally the Kuglimz men would not dye their clothes completely yellow, though they would certainly use the yellow dye for decorative patterns on clothing, blankets and furs.  Women typically do not wear yellow, though there is no rule or law against it. Kind of like the idea that blue is for boys and pink for girls--for the Kuglimz, yellow is for men and white is for women.

A good beginning!  Expand and add some details, such as:

flowers (if any)--shape,  size and colour
typical lifespan of a plant (1 year, 2 years?  You say the "older" plants explode, how old is that?)
what are the seeds like?  Is the plant cultivated or just growing wild?
Are there other uses besides dye?
How long are the "long" leaves?  What shape?  Smooth or rough edged (i.e like a tulip leaf or a dandelion leaf?)

Hi! My edits are generally for grammar/style, and not necessarily for big integration stuff.

Edits in this color.

The Alth’tiert (Yellow Plant)
Category: Misc./Others

Basic Overview-The Alth’tiert is a large plant most commonly found around the vents of volcanoes in the Celeste Mountains.   The Alth’tiert is an interesting plant due to notable for its reproductive cycle.  Rather than animals carrying its pollen, older, less resistant plants will burst open when a nearby vent is too hot, resulting in pollen being released from the plant. [This last sentence is a little awkward because of some ambiguity: "This plant does not fertilize through insects like the malise that carry pollen from plant to plant; instead, the mature Akth'tiert burst open when a nearby vent becomes too hot, releasing the pollen into the air to float to other plants."] It is used for trade and dye by the Fird’gormz, a human Kuglimz tribe that resides residing in the mountains in Northern Sarvonia, for trade, and dye

Appearance-The Alth’tiert grows on average to be to a height and width of about ½ a ped in height, and roughly equal in width. It has a shallow root system that spreads out in a circular range [I don't understand what a "circular range" means. You may be able to take this out.] from the plant. This allows it to get as much nutrition from the topsoil as possible in its rough habitat [This is a little vague: perhaps "harsh environment"?]. It has long leaves that are a finger’s length at their widest, and a usually a fore long. The plant receives its name from its appearance, [Maybe "The plant's appearance gives/lends it its name"?] as the leaves have dark yellow streaks throughout, with a darker stripe of yellow running down the middle of its long leaves. [It might be apropos to mention what language the name comes from, and what the parts of the name mean] The unique colouring is thought to be arise from the plants constant exposure to the brimstone reek that wafts wafting out from the volcanoes. The leaves are actually very tough ["Tough" as in.. fibrous? thick? resilient? bitter? Be specific!], so as to give it a natural protection from any foraging animals. There is no observable stalk for the leaves to attach themselves to; rather they all tend to come together in a massed jumble at the base of the plant. The plant lacks any flowers, and only the leaves being the only thing that grow from the base.

Territory-The Alth’tiert plants are found in volcanic areas[comma] and can especially be seen in the Celeste Mountains at the southwest of Northern Sarvonia. They do not grow in masses, but seem to cluster around vents that lead leading directly to the heart of the volcanoes.

Usages-The Alth’tiert is a main trade item of the Fird’gormz, who trade it to the Helvet’ine. The Helvet’ine use the leaves of this plant to make a yellow dye [..."for coloring... clothing, tapestries, rugs...?"]. By soaking the leaves in water for a few hours, and boiling the enlarged leaf with a small amount of water, the yellow juices of the plant are boiled out. With egg yolk is added, it will give the mixture a little more hold. It is then set out for several hours, and a rich golden dye is thus formed from it. There are no other known uses for the plant. [In order to avoid so many passives, consider adding a character in this paragraph: "Special Helvet'ine dyers soak the leaves in water..."]

Reproduction-The reproduction process is different than in other plants, the plants live usually up to a year, occasionally, as the plants are located near vents, they are constantly subject to the vent’s sudden heat changes. [This last sentence is a run-on--you have three independent clauses strung together with commas. Consider this revision: "The reproduction process differs from other plants. As these plants grow near volcanic vents, they are constantly subject to sudden fluctuations in heat." Add the lifespan bit to the end of this paragraph.]  When the heat reaches too much higher temperatures, older plants (which are not as resistant to these temperature changes) will, in a way explode burst open.  The base of the plant serves as the storage for the pollen, so the pollen is released as the plant erupts, and will be sent over the volcano. [Consider: "Pollen is stored at the base of the plant, so when it explodes, this pollen is released and drifts over the volcano to other plants."] In order for a new plant to be formed, the ground must be heated nearly the entire time more or less constantly, which is why most of these plants are found around vents of volcanoes.

The Alth’tiert will reproduce three out of the four seasons.  During the winter, most of the plants will survive. [Consider: "Most of the plants survive the bitter cold of the Northern Sarvonian winter." The Alth’tiert will force itself into a a hibernation, a type of sleep, where it will produce no pollen, but has a higher chance of surviving than normal in the harsh winter.  During summer, the reproduction rates of the plants nearly double [double compared to what? It sounds like double compared to winter, but since they don't reproduce at all during winter, 0x2=0!], the higher temperature weakening the resistance of the base of the plant and allowing for lower temperatures from the vents to force the Alth’tiert to combust. [To combust is basically to catch fire or errupt in flame. Is this what happens, or do they explode?]

Myth/Lore-The colour yellow (or gold) is dedicated to Sur’tyan[comma] the All-Father.  By dyeing patterns in their clothes, the Helvet’ine men show their respect to All-Father.  The women usually do not dye their clothes with the gold dye, although there is no law or rule prohibiting it. [Why not? Perhaps it is not socially acceptable for women to demonstrate their faith in this way? Maybe it is more socially acceptable for them to display the colors of the All-Mother?] The Helvet’ine men wear the gold colour proudly, showing their love and honour for Sur’tyan.
